‘Unacceptable and disgusting’: Support pours in for Oilers’ Bear after racist social media comments

- The Indigenous community is calling for the team to take a tougher stance in condemning the racist comments against Edmonton Oilers defenceman Ethan Bear.
Seriously Oilers fan this kid has worked hard and done all he could to contribute to the Oilers and the larger community. He made a mistake on the ice but the team is supposed to score more goals than the opposition. That is the problem not Ethan Bear. Get unhappy with the team because it is a team sport. Quit the personal attacks and racial comments because this kid is good and the future of Oilers defence corps. If you undermine this kid and make him lose confidence you are killing Oilers hockey. Knock it off. Do not be low life.

It will never change for some reason. When people get mad , people say things to hurt their feelings even if it’s racism. It will never change. I was disappointed at Ethan bear and that’s allowed but I never ever would bring it up because of his culture.

Canada has always been racist towards "indians" hockey itself is no different , its just getting talked about but this is nothing new, history speaks for itself

My kid came home the other day and said his classmate called him a name. I said you need to go public with this. no one should be exposed to everyday living when you need to be strong and keep trying to reach your goal no matter what.

Thanks for your support, but we are not native Canadians. We are Indigenous people. Canadians are the immigrants who came here to turtle island (North America). That includes everyone except Indigenous people. They're were indigenous people here long before there was a "Canada".

Oilers have always had diverse teams. Back in the day they had Georges Laraque, Anson Carter, and Mike Grier and last years edition had African-American, African-Canadian, Indo-Guyanese-Canadian, South Asian-Canadian, Japanese-American, First Nations and this year's team is pretty much the same.
