This seems to be such an impressive place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future when all this is over. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much!
Thanks so much, Kim! This is actually really helpful! I wasn't sure if people would like the driving scenes as much as we do, haha. We love seeing what "driving on the other side of the road" looks like!
Amazing video guys really enjoyed it. Loved the little history lesson the voice over of Derek is full on history documentary very awesome! Looking forward to the next one 🙌😊
Hi, I just subscribed after searching for motorhoming in Kent and your video popped up. We live in Dover, my dad as a boy used to shelter in the caves during the Second World War and my grandfather used to deliver newspapers to the castle in war time too. Loved you the passion you showed for this lovely castle and happy travels to you both.
@@MeansToTravel My dad saw one of his friends running from a Messerschmitt attack and the bullets hitting the railings of a house. They had the newsagents shop just under the cliff and a huge piece of shrapnel came through the shop window. Up until a few years ago it was still at the shop but not sure what happened to it now. I do, Dover has suffered a bit in the last few years and the town hasn't had a great deal of improvement, but it is my home and I am proud of it.
I was smiling to myself watching your eat your lunch as I can’t do it either but my Hubby can, he’s an expert thankfully, we are actually booked into this pub for our visit in a few weeks time😍
Really nice video guys! Well done! The Dover Castle is stunning 😍🏰 And I got hungry with the fish 😋 looks like tapas, I really like this type of food to pick
I commented as TheGazzadj but here is our Motorhome channel. So glad you loved the castle and Dover and yes the roads can be very narrow, especially St. Margaret's. I wouldn't like to take the motorhome down there!! All the best from Gary aka TheGazzadj and Julie from Dover, Kent.
My husband and I were there in Oct. 2019 on a cruise stop. We got up early to see the beautiful White Cliffs as the ship made it's way into the port. Touring Dover Castle was one of the highlights of our trip. Enjoyed your video!
Awww thanks Sherry! So glad you got to see the white cliffs and take a beautiful cruise before the pandemic struck! I had always wanted to see the cliffs in person and was delighted that we were able to manage it last autumn! Glad you enjoyed the vid! 🙏😊
Thanks David! Yes, I've been to England, Scotland, and Wales in the summertime in previous years, and I'd love to come back next summer if possible - so beautiful! I actually have loads more UK travel vlogs to put out still (since we were there for three months), and the next few will be in Cornwall! 😀
Howdy Guys, I really enjoyed your video. Very cool that you had "Dove " products in your B&B in Dover lol. The castle in Dover looks stellar and I would love to visit there in the future and maybe near future. I want to learn more about the English Heritage membership as my heritage is from England on my dad's side. On my mothers' side is the Irish Heritage. Do you have to have full Heritage to be a member? Great job Derek on driving on the wrong side of the road lol. It also looks like that I have to check out St. Margaret’s Bay as well. It is awesome that you can see France from there. I would love to take the train from Dover to Germany via France. Great job guys, I love your vlogs.
HAHAHA we never put together the Dove / Dover connection! Bravo on that one! English Heritage is an organization that helps preserve historic landmarks all over the country, and a membership gives you free entrance to over 400 spots. No need to have an actual English bloodline to sign up, which is great!
This looks like a really cool adventure. We have never visited Dover Castle but it looks really cool. We only every really go to Dover to get the ferry but we really should try and spend some time there to explore. The views are really beautiful too. That looked like a super fishy lunch. I wouldnt be able to eat the head either. I loved this vlog. We are missing travelling at the moment so it was nice to explore with you xx
Thanks guys! You'll love visiting Dover Castle if you choose to explore Dover before the ferry! And haha I'm glad there are others who just can't bring themselves to eat the fish heads either 😂
Another great vlog!!! Always pass through Dover heading for the cross Channel ferries. Next time I'll stop at the Castle! Good advice about Memberships. I work for the National Trust for Scotland and recommend taking one of our memberships. It can be used throughout the UK but is cheaper than the National Trust. I heard you guys mention this in one of your livestreams! Look forward to see more from the trip!
@@MeansToTravel we will be staying 3 nights. One day will be spend in londen. And the other days we will visit dover castle, hastings 1066 battlefield, folkstone, cantenbury. And this little theme park called 'dreamland margate'. Its going to be fun.
@@chrisderidder4087 That will be a great trip! I visited the Canterbury cathedral in 2018, which was beautiful - but doing a punting tour in Canterbury was my absolute favorite! We lucked out with some beautiful weather. Hope you have a fantastic time! 😀
Glad you enjoyed Kent, a county with such varied landscapes and full of historic places. Shame you didn't get inside the castle, it is even more amazing on the inside. When you think about modern buildings, it's just extraordinary how the limited technologies of the day were able to help build these (and other) amazing structures.
@@guybarritt8632 We didn't get to go inside Rochester Castle in Kent at all because it was closed. For Dover Castle, the underground tunnels part of the complex was closed. Not sure which castle we were chatting about here, but we definitely had some restrictions due to the pandemic that we experienced. Safety first, though!
Thank you so much, I'm really glad you like it! I'm currently working on editing the next round of UK vlogs for this channel to come out this summer (Dorset and Cornwall). Hope you'll like those too!!! 😀
I think a hut is technically a structure that someone could live in like a tiny home, and these didn’t have windows, plumbing, or insulation so they wouldn’t be allowed as legal dwellings. But maybe the word choice is a cultural difference? 😇🤷🏻♀️
Yes that is what they are called here. A lot have basic plumbing in, they don't have to have windows.People use them to spend the day in by the beach, some have basic camping stoves in too. In some seaside resorts they sell for £25,000 +
Okay hahahaha so I know I’m totally at risk saying this, but you can bring a camping stove to a tent and it’s still a tent 🤣🤣🤣 definitely a difference in what words you can legally use to sell a structure. BUT wow that’s a lot of money and I’m glad we saw inside a few and that people were using theirs that day! They’re still super cool!
Hi! I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to one of England's jewels and the gateway to England :-) I live a few miles from the castle and have visited it on many many occasions. Just a little fun fact for you. At 6:49 the view you have from the ramparts. In the distance you can see the two remaining Radar towers (known during WW2 as RDF) that formed part of the Home defences against the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain in 1940. Also, in the midground in the trees just beyond the spur of land is the site where Louis Bleriot crash landed his aeroplane after making the first heavier than air cross channel flight in 1909 from Baraques in France. It took him 37 minutes to complete, winning a prize of £1000, which in todays money is approx £125,000 ($175,000). There is a monument in those trees to his accomplishment.
You guys really lucked out on the weather and the lack of crowds! I like to follow along in Google Street View to get a more expansive sense of the places you are visiting, and kudos to you for your massive links to products and sources of information!
I know, it was incredible!! I bet Dover Castle is usually much more packed in normal times - especially when more cruise and ferry passengers are around. We were so blessed with the sunny, autumnal weather!
Derek, I thought you knew how to eat langostinos since you studied in Spain. Looked delicious though. Will have to go to England. I've been to Ireland and Scotland but avoided England and specifically London because of cost. Great blog!
