So Australia is more bigger than i was expected
It would have been nice to see some pictures of the settlements and landscapes of the islands.
+Mark-Leon Thorne Okay, I’ll make sure to keep that in mind when making my next empire video. Thanks!
Was your slave otherwise engaged?
Should have tapped on New Guineas history under Australia
This video is on Australia's current external territories, so I only covered Norfolk, Christmas, and the Cocos Islands. That's be an interesting topic for another video though, I added it to my list!
AJT Junk wait, I remember you from watching toys in japan cringe compilation
sure-papua-importance-to.australia
An Australian here, loved the video. I've always wanted to go to Norfolk
is it good?
Another fact about the Cocos (Keeling) Islands - in 1984 there was a referendum that decided the future of the island - whether the island should be integrated as an external territory of Australia or whether it should become a separate nation. The islanders decided to vote for integration as an external territory which leaves Cocos in the situation as it is now and finishes the final piece of that puzzle about the Cocos Islands.
so there was a chance that the new least popuated country in the world could have appeared in 1984
Great video! There's also Macquarie Island, but politically it is part of Tasmania and nobody permanently lives there, although there are some researchers.
+Chris Hawkins Thanks for the comment! There are too many interesting places to cover in one video.
Chris Hawkins Tasmania is part of Australia right?
Supposedly a part of Tasmania but the Australian Antarctic Territory includes it on its stamps, work that out!
Is it just me or Christmas Island looks like a puppy?
I would have said a deer but yeah, I see a dog.
Yeah lol
Oh yea
Just you
Just want to point out that there are "3" internal territories....you probably missed the Jervis Bay Territory. But other than that, Great Video!
Jervis Bay is administered by the ACT government.
The mighty Australian empire!
Must first terraform the Outback to boost the potential
Fantastic video but I also want to note that you have a great sense in music too 👌🏻
Haha, I do my best with the royalty free stuff that's out there. Thanks dude, I appreciate it 😄
this presentation is EXCELLENT !
Thanks man!
great-loved-explanation-very-illustrating
I love videos like this! I had no idea that Australia had any overseas territories.
Very interresting video. I knew nothing about their history.
You forgot Australian Antarctic Tertitory. Also, 3 internal territories. Jervis Bay Territory always seems to be forgotten
The Antarctic territory isn't entirely legitimate, and this video is about external territories. I have made a separate video on Jervis Bay.
Your videos are great and informative! I like how you have the globe and zoom into each island to give a good sense of their locations. Do you plan to do this for other countries with overseas territories and/or island nations?
+jereboy2005 Thanks! And yes, I do plan on making similar videos. I'll be covering every nation with external territories (already done the US and Australia). Probably going to work on the British video next. I'll keep the island nation idea in mind for the future.
you accidentally forgot about Jarvis bay, which is a inland territory.
jarvis bay is ACT not the external islands
@@haruhisuzumiya6650 Since 1989 it has been its own territory, but it's laws are largely the same as ACT
Continuing my overseas territories from USA, UK, NL and FR. Good shit!
Cocos Keeling islands and Christmas island is the Indian Ocean Territory
This video is well researched. Our overseas territories have always fascinated me, but looks like an American just schooled me. You got my sub bro. Awesome work.
Thanks!
James Cook THE KING OF FIRST EUROPEAN TO LAND INTO "INSERT RANDOM ISLAND" 😅😅😅
YouCan'tAlwaysGet WhatYouWant not all of them, The Dutch got to lots of South-Eastern Asia before Cook did
Great vid. You know why I said that
Awesome Video Mate
Plse do one hawilli why it not a indepedent country as one was and why purto rico is not as well
11:28 Seven external teritories? At the begining of the video you said six.
The Australian Antarctic Territory is claimed and administered under the Antarctic Treaty.
Hart Poole then at the beginning, he should have said 7.
Must have been a mistake. Nevermind 😊
The Cook Keeling Islands and the Christmas Island are both very similar in History :)
I will show this to my class, thanks for the great video!
What about Australian parts of Antartica?
Not entirely legitimate, as with every other countries claims.
@@435American not entirely true as the UN agreed with them like the British for example making the claims legitimate
I correct and with respect. This is excellent
You forgot to say something about Antarctic territory of Australia
I choose not to mention it because it would have to lead to a long tangent on the subject, lol. If you're interested, I cover all Antarctic claims in my Unclaimed Regions of the World video, including the overlapping ones. Thanks for the comment!
I don't know if this is a random coincidence or maybe the guy just got it wrong but that Pieter goos guy in 4:20 really looks like renes descartes
I am "the guy" and I did indeed just get it wrong. That is René Descartes, not sure why he came up when searching for Pieter Goos. Haven't been able to find a portrait of Goos to this day.
Morrethy
Thanks for the reply man, in all fairness I also made a Google image search for the goos guy and ur right the only picture that comes up is of renes descartes
Also the coral sea islands do have people on them
isn't there also the AAT--the Australian Antarctic Territory? a philatelist here, that's why I'm curious why it's not included...
Why no mention of Australia's Antartic Territory?
Can you do this with other countries please?
Currently working on a Dutch version and have already done U.S. territories.
Awesome!
Thank you!
Australia has 8 states and territories. Norfolk Island the one and only island of Australia that is self governing. Christmas Island is govern by the Christmas shire council, and Western Australia state law applies a long with Australia national law.
Norfolk right to self-govern was recently revoked.
Australia actually has three internal territories, Jervis Bay Territory was given to the ACT so that it could have a port, but since 1989 has been it's own territory, although under the laws of the ACT. Just a technicality, but interesting nonetheless.
External
New Zealand also has an Empire!
It has Cook Islands
7:14 voya nui from Bionicle
The Torres Strait Islands?
Fun fact in the coral sea island there's a separatist movement known as the gay empire after arriving there on the ship know as the gay flowr
I'm not joking look it up
Haha, that's brilliant! Thanks for the comment!
0:20 *cocos killing island*
Great video yet again! GOD bless you and have a great day!
Thank you, always great to get a comment from you :)
Morrethy Thanks man!

and Dependencies explained
I've thought about making that before, it'll either be over an hour long or like five separate 15 minute videos if I use the same format as this video. Hell of a task, but I probably will eventually. Thanks for the comment!
This Pieter Goos guy looks very similar to René Descartes
you're saying norfolk wrong
It is either HMS Resolution or The Resolution not The HMS Resolution. There have been 10 Resos . Nice the video by the way. :-)
Interesting, I apologize if I worded that incorrectly. Thanks for the comment!
Cocos is one of the (3) flags to to not have the colors of the United Kingdom flag 🇲🇷🇯🇲🇨🇨
Alamo 1746372 Mauritania wasn’t ever under British rule though, while Jamaica formerly had a flag with the Union Jack.
How about India and Canada? (ok Canadian flag has similar colours I guess)
@@bigbobey1680 they both have white
AT P I thought he was talking about the UK flag in the top corner
Big Bobey Canada has red
Was Lord Howe mentioned?
Ricardo part of NSW
*Technically three internal territories NT, ACT, JBT
Two Antarctic Territories
All Antarctic claims are in a grey area of legitimacy due to the Antarctic treaty, so I did not mention Australia's Antarctic Territory.
Morrethy
True, but we do have postage stamps for them. ...
I don't think the UN has anything to do with the Antarctic Treaty System, but I wouldn't mind them keeping the _Status Quo_ after the 2040's.
Morrethy even more reason to do it :)
Morrethy doesn't that treaty expire in 2050?
Good video mate, very informative
Thank you!
Norfolk is pronounced "Norfuk"
ummm what? 5:20
I want to visit Cocos Island and Christmas Island
I really want to go to Cocos Islands
nIcE AuStRaLiA.
I believe you are talking about the British...
my daddy sed in earth theres no more cristmas island
Lord Howe island? ??
Part of New South Wales, so it’s not a territory.
you forgot Lord Howe island
Simon Carroll Lord Howe I. is a part of the state of New South Wales although it would be more fun if it was a seperate territory with its own flag etc.
Dreamvix brought me here :)
May I ask who/what Dreamvix is out of curiosity?
amogus (originally I said something like "where's australian antarctica" but I realized that I everyone was commenting that so I edited my comment"

Niue is apart of New Zealand
Poor Australia. Only six islands to play with.
More seriously, you'd think New Zealand would be a more appropriate caretaker for Pacific islands.
I wouldn't call Australia an empire.
Gotta get that RUclips revenue somehow, and it's technically not incorrect.
@@435American a commonwealth
Give McDonald Island independence!
L T HORNING
Burger King should annex it.
We're so British our colonies have colonies.
Why don't they standardize the name from "Cocos (Keeling)" to "Cocos-Keeling", to me the '(Keeling)' always seemed like an alternative name rather than part of the name of the island; what I mean by that is "Cocos" is the primary name but it also goes by "Keeling" and that's sort of true if one looks at its history.
I definitely agree with you there, it makes the island a bit of a mouthful to say as well. I'd be interested to see if the inhabitants of the island would want to change the name or keep it Cocos (Keeling).
+Morrethy
I know the history as to how they ended up with that name, but I do wonder if they have a strong opinion on the matter or is just "whatever".
You'd think they wouldn't like the Keeling part because of Keeling's roots in colonialism, but that's just an assumption on my part.
+Morrethy
Also there are other _Cocos_ Islands out there, so I don't think is such a good idea just to use that.
keel is the origin word so keeling should mean where you repair a keel
Ain't no Damn empire
+Brian Bowman It technically is, but not in the tradition sense. It’s simple hyperbole, gotta make a somewhat intriguing title.
Morrethy
I really wonder why the territories are Australian and not overseas territories of the UK - you'd think Britain would have more interest given its already wider spread of territories
Australian Empire
Hahaha McDonald Island
Tam DSC its real
Tam DSC It's where Hamburglar lives.
man, that's really funny
Yep, he forgot Heard and McDonald Island.
*Clunies Ross*
that is a terrible flag on the thumbnail.
The thumbnail is not all one flag, but rather three (Christmas Island, Norfolk Island, and the Cocos Keeling Islands). I just flipped them vertical to fit in a 16:9 ratio. I’d agree that they are rather ugly flags even when viewed individually, though.
Cocos islands should be part of indonesia
Because the People of Cocos Island the Malay is similar to Indonesi
