Hello mate, your done a luvly job on that old jag. Since I was a boy, I've always thoroughly that, the v12 should of been the reserve of the XJS, and the JX6 should only ever come with the 6 cylinder. The 12 just seems more fitting to be placed in the coupe. Keep these good videos coming.👍👍👍👍👍👍
@@JulianGriggs ah ok. Half my family is in Michigan and at this time of year it looks quite similar. Yes your car is cool, especially with the new exhaust you've fitted. My dream is to get a V12 XJS and fit a 6 speed manual box to it. Keep the vids coming!
I was looking at picking up one of these. I just wish there was more info on manual conversions for it. Would be so cool with a 5 or 6 speed. Awesome vid!
@@JulianGriggs yah I think roughly they come out to like $4500 just in parts. Not including shipping or labor. Labor can be done yourself tho as I found a company that sells an instruction manual with their parts kit. I ended up buying and MG Midget instead which cost less than that lol. I still think the XJS is awesome I was just so scared of dealing with that engine I backed away from em. The V12 just seems like a crazy handful to figure out. A lot more complicated than a pushrod straight 4!
@@Xiones11 I think if you check cars.com or cargurus there is an XJS for sale that already has the conversion... Yeah I found it... it's in Texas.... www.adscars.com/1988-Jaguar-XJS-Houston-Texas-77057/5614355 I guess a little bit expensive but hey.
I am about to buy 1989 Jag XJS V12, i am thinking of ripping all the useless things off (like cruise control) to make the enginebay clear and easy to acces, you got any tips and tricks? i saw that you had replaced cold air intake, is it better than the original?
Awesome! I removed a lot of things from mine haha. A/C Cruise control Emission pump Emission pump rails A/C fuel rail line And more that I’m probably forgetting.. buy high temp vac line block offs from Amazon. I also removed the A bank fuel pressure regulator(passenger side). Take your time and save all your parts just incase. If you have a emissions car you have to make block off plates, there’s a really good write up on it on the Jaguar forums, just google it. Good luck!
I did a lot of googling when it came to parts. MossJaguar.com, advance auto parts, jagbits.com, Coventrywest.com, SNGBarratt.com, eBay.com all of these are websites I used
Would there be some way I could contact you about how you did this? I'm trying to do the same right now with my xjs, is it stock diameter 2 inch with outsourced normal universal tubing?
@@DerringtonLatour this setup was 2.5” from the stock collectors out the sides. I would keep the diameter 2”(stock) throughout the whole system. I learned with the 3rd exhaust setup I did that too big diameter does NOT sound good. Any exhaust shop should be able to do this exhaust system. It’s a X pipe with the pipes going out the sides. Hope this helps!
It’s definitely running rich. A vacuum sensor went bad(can’t remember the name of it) making it run rich. Sounds pretty cool in deceleration with all the pops, gurgles and flames haha. It’s on the list of things to fix...
I know nothing about this car other than I pass one on the way to work I a beautiful bright red and that I want it if I were to get it what are some common problems?
These cars are a Labor of love... it’s an old British car. Electrical issues, head gaskets, blown steering lines, rack and pinion(twice) and a few other things are what I’ve replaced on my car already. Mine was in rough shape when I got it. Maintenance is key with these cars(all cars) rear brakes are hard to change unless you find a later model. These cars produce a lot of heat under the hood so watch out for overheating and make sure all wires are not melted or frayed. Nice thing is that I haven’t had much of a problem finding parts, however just keep in mind if you don’t do the work yourself a lot shops won’t even look at the car because it’s a older Jaguar. Mine is still definitely a project. I’ve decided to pull the engine and do a complete overhaul on all gaskets and get all the power steering lines replaced. If you can find one that’s pretty cheap and has a lot of preventative maintenance/maintenance already done then I’d say go for it! Go on the Jaguar forums and read up on the car, it’s helped me a lot! Although my car still needs a bit of work I love it. Can’t beat a V12!
I can hear a little bit of the high-pitched V12 sound when you let off the throttle at high rpm sometimes. I really want to know how to get an XJS to have an exhaust scream like the one in this video (without building a race motor): ruclips.net/video/95MhCNKf7CA/видео.html Be careful driving an XJS on anything but dry roads - too much throttle (even in a straight line) and the rear end will go sideways with no warning.
I agree. That car sounds great. The key is equal length headers! Next to impossible to find anyone willing to fab up a set without selling a limb haha, let alone here in Alaska. Don’t drive the XJS much during winter. I do start it and run it to keep the juices flowing.
Have you seen the onboard footage of that Targa Tassie Jaguar?: ruclips.net/video/HYfEvXdGExk/видео.html btw, great video! The X-Pipe exhaust almost sounds like its racing equivalent.
@@crazygrainger2006 No I hadn't seen that, thanks. The car sounds better from the outside, which is why you'd want a side-exit exhaust and the windows down all the time. =)

great. Sounds like a Spitfire
Needs a pair of glasspacks to just take the edge off for my taste but it does sound good, a V12 always will ;-)

Hi great videos! Can I ask did you notice any obvious power gains with the headers ? & the cross pipe?
Many thanks
Engine seems to be happier! Unfortunately I have no dyno data…
Like the driving part. That’s how you hear the car. Idling revs are not as good.

Thank you!
