    Reminds me of a TV series about Canadian Customs I watched a few weeks ago. A guy sailed into Canadian waters, anchored and ate breakfast for one hour before heading straight to Customs. He was immediately slapped with a $1000 fine and forced to leave. Luckily, it sounds like the officials you dealt with were a little more reasonable.

    • @TheSailingBrothers
      @TheSailingBrothers  Год назад +1

      Wow $1,000 fine just for having breakfast that is pretty severe. When we arrived in Canada sailing from Boston the customs were extremely friendly and chill. We did everything correct when we arrived.

    Guys, please please tie a line around the clew of main sail and back to end of boom when reefed. If the reefing line chafes and beaks the main sail will likely rip all the way along the reefing points. I sailed in Rival 38 out of Venezuela and Trinidad, most of the time mainsail reefed. If was standard practice to tie down the clew after reefing. I learned this trick from sailing with Stokey Woodall who has had many Trans Atlantic crossings

    • @Mahalo_83
      @Mahalo_83 2 года назад +3

      This has happened to me, now I carry a giant soft shackle to easily attach when reefing the main.

      The music!
      I'm begging you!
      If it is music.
      It reminded me of a mentally challenged mute trying to sing/ cry about how sad he was when his night night blanket had to be thrown out because moms new boyfriends stupid dog tore it up.

    Rules and their enforcement vary country to country and even port to port about entry issues (such as whether you are allowed to anchor overnight before checking in) but one rule is absoloute: Never lie to a Government official. That is typically a criminal offense, more severe than any procedural transgression. And in this age of satellites, AIS etc they probably do know your precise movements. You made the right call.

    Glad it all worked out for you, lads! Honesty goes a long way. On the nautical side, maybe this is just me, but that snatch block attacked to the lifelife stanchion (around minute 3:45) makes me pretty nervous -- that plate might be backed sufficiently for the loads there, and if there's been no problems thus far then that's a good sign, but it still gives me a bit of a queasy feeling and I'd hate for anything bad to suddenly happen. Maybe your other learned viewers might weigh in...

    @14:00 (First time viewer(?)) I have not read any of the other comments, so forgive me if I am echoing their message, but one of the main reasons countries have ports and f entry, is so that new arrivals are in a known location where they can be loosely monitored for any contraventions or illegal activities. In retrospect, you must agree that it looks very suspicious for an unknown, undeclared vessel, who has not alerted authorities to their pending arrival, from who knows where, to anchor somewhere other than the port of entry. If I were in any bureaucratic or law enforcement role, my first thought would be ‘Hmmm, engaging in some sort of illegal activity - (Drug smuggling? People smuggling?...)
    It’s very fortunate that you are UK nationals in a UK governed jurisdiction. If you tried the same thing in the US Virgin Islands, you probably would have been arrested and incarcerated. The yanks don’t screw around when it comes to “Homeland security”
    Hope you remember this lesson for the rest of your cruising days.
    N.B. A note will more than likely be put on your immigration files (via your passport and the ships’ registration/immigration files, which is visible to a lot of foreign law enforcement agencies for an indeterminate length of time. (May be a few years or so, or it may be permanent. Who knows?)
