Kirk’s playing the slide/wah is one of the greatest sounds I’ve ever heard coming from an electric guitar. It sounds cool and emotional at the same time, as if the guitar is crying.

Jason Newsted on bass was the beast, too much time to hear his Bass melodic lines and out on the little backvocals ! I just think Metallica lost a lot with his departure.
He still lets that vocal sound slip every so often. It's rare though, sometimes he'll push on some words and the 90's vocal fry comes back, then he goes back to his normal fry he has now. I think he still has the ability but whoever has trained him in the late 2000s must have told him stay well away from it. Doesn't even use it for recording.

The amount of times I've came back to this specific performance of one of my favorite "Metallica" songs (big fan of their covers outside of their personal material) It always felt like it fit more with Metallica but have respect for Seger as well do to my father growing up. Approaching 27 at the time of this comment and have always found an odd comfort in this song/performance. Especially if I'm driving out around the country for work and it's late at night. It always finds its way through my shuffle. Always. Anyways, much love to The Metallica boys 🙏 Nothing but love and respect for each and every one of them.

@@Beadlayer69Yes but the Thin Lizzy version is a rock adaptation. It originally didnt have the riff. I suppose Phil did most of the music. The Metallica version is a heavier cover of the Thin Lizzy version.
Jason didn't up and leave without a reason or warning. His hate towards James started around Load I think when the label would no longer support Jason's side project only because James said he wouldn't support it, because he didn't want him to have a side band. When he did leave, it was after weighing every possible option of being out of a big band or on his own, and at that point, he had enough. I wonder if he heard any St. Anger ideas, and really felt it wasn't worth it. :P Kinda doubt it though.
