Glad to see you on this side of the pond! And congrats to the “kid” for his passion and for preferring restoring an Oldtimer to an evening with a VIP. And good luck and best wishes to him!
I love the fact that there are car guys the world over, our garage's all look the same, our hearts love the cars the same. This world could use more of this in All aspects of life. Long live us car guys (and gals)...
I owned an A35 . It used to develop a steering shake over 35mph; it was steering linkage. I had so much fun in it. I'm glad you're enjoying this example.
Great episode !!! Sam seems like an exceptional young man & he has a great Dad :-) I learned to drive in a 67 Jag E-Type & 72 MGB but 1 of my dream cars is a Jag Mk. 2 :-)
This particular episode brought back memories. I grew up in New Zealand in the 60/70s where British cars ruled. The A35 is a unbeautiful example of 1950s Brit cars. My favourite, should I ever find one to buy, is the 1950s Ford Popular. I have a friend who owns a genuine Ford Mexico which he rallies every now and then. Keep up the great adventures for us.
I like cars and I am not a people person, but what makes this such a great show time and again is seeing Tom meeting all these great people and hearing their car stories.
Although not the primary focus of your visit, it was good to see the Golden Hawk. I hope the owner decides to save it or sell it to someone who will put it back on the road somewhere in the world!
While the English are so often portrayed and "stodgy and formal", it always such a treat to interact with those who possess the wit and humor displayed by these "gentlemen"!! 👍👍👍
Pappa Bob the majority of car guys are totally down to earth and great it’s usually the rich and so called elite that think they are better than everyone else we call them the snotty rich lol
Mt dad had bought a second hand, dark green van version in 1968. We lived in Camden Town then. I was only a small kid and he was always asking me to help him with it. I think he really wanted the Austin A40. Nice small old british car.
They are called TC Ford Cortina's here in Australia and there are still PLENTY of them here. You mostly see them as Drag cars, havent seen one on the road in years though
Love it when you come to our side of the pond. You have a great sense of humour and you need it when talking to a Brit, keep on going I look forward to watching your channel.
Great to see Tom over here in the UK. Can tell this was filmed earlier in the year as there's not a cloud in the sky today and it's +26C and will be +29/30C the next two days.
That was a neat trip! The Brit's have some very neat collectible cars! I grew up in Australia and my parent's owned a couple Cortina's, a couple Morris Minor's, the first car they owned there was a Falcon station wagon. We had some cars then that I would love to have now. Good video!
I love the looks of the A35 and my Mum and Step-Dad loved them to, so many moons ago they had 1 each. Sadly that love ended when they both had serious crashes in them within a few years of each other my Mum walked away from hers but my step-dad was in a coma for 3 months, when he come round he had lost 15 years of memory which over time he got back all but the last 3, but he never drove again.
In 1921 my Grandfathwer got his 1st driving license in a Model T ford .a few years later the car got destroyed when it stalled on train tracks and got flattened by a train .He didnt drive again until 1973 when he picked up a nice Black A35 and drove it until he passed,at the wheel of his beloved Austin,as it happened he had pulled over off the road.
Some rubbish is talked about 2dr Mk5 cortina's a few years ago it was 11 left now 6! They were only avl in base & L trim levels for the UK market with the 1.3 ohv eng & 4 speed gearbox ( a 1.6 ohc with automatic transmission was avl to special order for disabled drivers through the government motobility scheme). The 2dr was the very lowest spec version of the range through the 3 1/2 year production run probably 10,000ish were made with around 50-100 surviving most have been fitted with the more common 2.0 ohc eng & higher trim specifications. 28 convertibles where made (one prototype 1.3 in red made by crayford which belongs to the chairman of the crayford owners club) then a further 27 under licence by carbodies of Coventry ( who make the black London taxi cab) these where all fitted with 1.6/2.0 ohc or 2.3 V6 cologne engines & GL (middle of the range ) trim except 1 with range topping Ghia trim & was displayed at the motor show , 1 LHD car was made & survives on the continent. 16 are thought to survive I own #9 the only 1.6 automatic version ,two definitely no longer exist. The rarest 2dr mk 5 Cortina is the ford ex-works 3.0 rally car that campaigned during 1981 & then in private hands until 1989 since which it's believed to have been in storage. Keep up the otherwise great work tom & look forward to your next book. Craig of the Sheffield Cortina Centre.
And sadly its rotting under weeds and thorns in the back garden. You dont store a car outside like that if you dont want it to rot. cool car otherwise. never seen a 2 door.
Unfortunately it's not seen as a "real" classic like othe mass produced cars (some even newer) like mgbs, Porsches, jags etc. Like that poor MK1 escort Mexico that even in that state is more sort after & valuable than most of those jags around it & definitely once repaired.
@@craigwalker8260 People looking for 2 doors usually don't care about spec, most want them because they look better, 2 door mk4s are even rarer though and imo look better than the mk5 which always has a "surprised look from the front with its taller glass. My cousin and I had well over 100 Mk3/4/5 Cortinas between us growing up, mostly modified in some way and had some old dogs that are super rare now.
I admire how the English respect the heritage of things. Something that is lost in the USA. I wish more youth took interest in working with their hands. Best of luck to the young man !!!
Oh that poor Mexico 😥 I hope that gets fixed soon.i owned an AVO Mexico in 1990 which had been fully restored and I LOVED that car,it was so nice that the local police used to stop me just to look at it.3 months after I bought it the Mexico was stolen from my driveway and was never seen again and I cried my heart out, such a beautiful car.
The difference between the US and UK, as far as car collection is concerned, is that in the US land is cheap and cars are really plentiful and interesting and in the UK not many people have the space to store cars and what is available is just too rotten or boring. That said, these guys were great car types and Jags are very interesting indeed, because they have the heritage and racing history. Needless to say finds like this, especially in and around London, are almost impossible to find, because all the land is bought up for development by greedy property types and what is left is just too expensive - having that much land attached to a home in England, especially around London would put it well outside the reach of ordinary people! Nice episode though, but I look forward to your return to the USA - nothing personal you understand old boy.
It brilliant seeing all these Jaguars and MG's, but what I really want to know is whats the story of that Series 2A 88in Landrover at 19.09? Please let us know!
You guys could of, at least set Tom straight on the pronunciation of Jaguar! It’s only right that when in the marque’s home country, that respect is shown. Just kidding, love the look at cars from the “mother” country. All the best from Australia.🇦🇺
The Mk2 Jaguar is the more famous because it has a famous history in touring car racing in the early 60s between 1960 and 1964. It had SWB like the Ferrari of 1959/61 was light and with a 3,8 Litre Engine it stood against the Ford Fairlane 289 racing versions in 1962/63 and some other famous cars that were used like the Alfa 1600 GTs and GTAs and the BMW 1800 TIs and 2000TIs. The S-Type starting as a 3,4 Litre in 1963/64 and transformed in 3,8 Litre in 1965/66 had a longer wheel base was a better family sports car and it was succeeded in 1967 by the 420 Jaguar (without G) the sleek version. The Mk2 stopped as the 340 in 1967 as 240 (4 cylinder) in 1969. The same year 1969 stopped the 420 which has a face like the XJ 6 but the body of the S- Type.
That was a really good Barn Find adventure. GOD bless that young man for all he survived and his wonderful attitude. His parents did good.
Sam appears to be a real gentleman who appreciates the finest of cars and antiques. Best wishes for him and his father 👍🏼
As a parent I love to see the love a a kid has for automobiles. Congratulations to his parents and you for your RUclips channel. Good job.
My dad had one of these A35s when my parents first got married. He still mentions it from time to time. He's 94 now.
Glad to see you on this side of the pond! And congrats to the “kid” for his passion and for preferring restoring an Oldtimer to an evening with a VIP. And good luck and best wishes to him!
Just great episodes filmed in the UK, love seeing these

Good job Cliff, Sam glad you are better health,
I owned an A35 . It used to develop a steering shake over 35mph; it was steering linkage. I had so much fun in it. I'm glad you're enjoying this example.
That last Jaguar 4-door was awesome, taking into consideration that Queen drove it herself at one point.
sam seems to be such a special person, brought tears to my eyes to be honest, great story, I really love this UK version Tom, seriously
It was a real treat to visit and meet these nice people through your travels. Keep up the tour! Fantastic videos

Great episode! I hope you found a Ford Capri while traveling around the UK :) I am waiting for it!

My first thought was it can't be that rare, but it actually really are? Wow. I have tc3 2dr Taunus as my daily driver.
The 2dr version is as it was only avl as very lowest spec in the UK.

OMG a mk1 escort to top it off = CLASS !!!
Yeah, nothing to do with "our" Escorts, right !?
@@marcryvon Paying for an escort has a few meanings lol
The v-8 in the stag is two four cylinder banks identical to the four cylinder found in the SAAB 99.
Well I’m glad at last that somebody is saying the S Type is a better car than the mk 2 😎
been following you since the beginning hope you keep making these videos 👍🙏
Atta boy Sam! I can relate on the cancer; 4x survivor here. EFF cancer....

If you're still in the UK you are more than welcome to come and see my farm full of Toyotas. Barn finds, race cars, project cars, you nname it.
Oh ya only original condition for sure. Beautiful car
This is just to cool
You seem to have stumbled onto a treasure trove of these TWR Jags. Maybe these guys can help the other guy resurrect his? Small world!
