When it comes to the fg characters, I think it's reasonable to think why someone would think one would be better then the other. I can see why people think Ryu is the best, or why Ken is the best, Terry or Kazuya. Me personally I think it's Ryu>Kazuya>Terry>Ken
I think they're all broken but if I had order them it would be so. I grind those mus all the time.
As for the lack of play, I remember someone made a video during sm4sh that Ryu is a new type of character that people aren't familiar with, that applies to the fg characters of ultimate, they are so radically different that people most likely aren't going to play them often, and since they are so weird that people don't want to play against them.

I had a good mindset in a game called Injustice God's among us and I played a low tier character called Lex Luthor. Sure he had 9-1 match ups or +2 for smash lol. I was by no means a top player but I did do well vs the top players of that game at a high level. The game had about 30 characters so learning the ins and outs of each by playing them wasn't so bad. With all my 40,000 plus games on PSN I labbed my bad match ups and came up with strategies to beat em. I had something for everyone in the cast by grinding day and day out. Unfortunately I don't have the time to play almost 10 hours a day like I used to but the ideal feels the same for me in this or any other FG I touch. Just saying lab it out for like a hour before you play online or with a friend. 1 hour warm ups can a long way. Practice movement, execution, or anything bothering you. Remember not everyone is going to know everything in these games and people make mistakes. Goes both ways so make the most out of the situation and be open. Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas too.

As a Terry main I fully agree that the main limiting factor to him rising is that you need a lot of self discipline to curb the autopilot. Most of the time you get huge rewards for imposing a barrage of match-up checks and winning out of failed interactions by mashing.
In the end you have to be super self aware when training otherwise you'll develop an efficient but sub-optimal style where Terry call-out the opponents habits while you go full gorilla.
He's kind of stuck in the first layers of his meta where everyone still thinks jab-jab-powerdunk is the whole character

Man, as a Marth player, hearing you guys talk about how player results can shift tier lists by force makes me feel motivated. I'm so sick and tired of hearing people talk crap about my character and being reminded that I can personally shift the public's perception on him if I do well is very motivating. I'll have to look for some tournaments near me, I guess. See if I can make some waves. Prove the Esams of the world wrong, ya know? Also, I'm curious about the FGC characters, specifically Ryu, but I can't get those inputs down for some reason.

Something important I discovered about mentality recently is that you need to choose your communities carefully. I started having more fun with fighting games when I stopped looking at twitch chats, reddit and twitter stuff. Started using discord more and non toxic twitch channels. No matter how good your mentality is, listening to constant complaining everyday can get to you. Cut that shit off

becoming self taught in how to break down the game takes time, you have to sit down with a vod and break it down play for play while having a deep understand of the game where through tournament experience, studying the game. took me years to get good at. best way to get kick started on this is to find a coach that works best for you since thats honestly the best investment you put toward you getting better at the game.

The point made about ultimate players not wanting to learn the match-up and just writing off characters as broken is so true. I love fighting games and I'm actually very good at tekken it's my best fg. In tekken it's a known accepted fact that you need to lab match-ups. But playing friends on smash I realize no one really does that.
