Here's a part two for anyone interested in finding more bands with this sound. Seven more bands still using the Boss HM2 sound today. ruclips.net/video/NVr-7Bj_lOk/видео.html
I used an HM-2 in my old bands from 85-87, I didn't set them like the Entombed settings all knobs to the right dimed. We played Punk rock and Thrash. I still have an HM-2 I have noticed they sound best through Solid State amps (for me at least)
Sorry about the audio everyone, I know it's not the best. I'm working very hard to improve the audio quality in future videos, it's one of my priorities along with being one of my biggest weaknesses.
I initially disliked your video because of the audio problems, but then I liked it when you included Entombed. Thanks for being honest and striving to improve the audio.
I love that these bands actually have very audible bass, which is really lacking in a lot of death metal (not to say it doesn't happen, it's just that the extremely scooped guitar tones really leave no room for bass).
Coming here after the HM-2W (Waza) pedal was announced. Turns out the Swedish Chainsaw is back from the dead! By the way, just want to thank you for introducing me to Spinebreaker. Into the Ice Grave kicks so much ass, and I wouldn't have found it without you.
I bought this pedal in the 80's and really don't think this is dedicated only for Death Metal Bands. I use it to play hard rock and heavy metal and it kicks ass ! Will never sell it !
While it is definitely not specific to only death metal, there's no doubt that the HM2's biggest fan base exists within that genre. It's a genre i'm well versed in as well so it's something I specifically wanted to focus on.
Has Bloodbath used the HM-2 on albums like the Fathomless Mastery? I recognize the classic buzzsaw sound from GMF and a few other old school bands. But I would love to get the tone from TFM.
Hey man, what is the name of the American band formed in 2009 that you mentionned after Bloodbath review, please ? I didnt" understand the name and can't read their awful logo ?
"Prepare yourselves for an ultimate blueprint of destructive, raw, heavy, organic and sludgy death metal! The time has come to stomp those HM-2 pedals once more and close the circle of the death metal archives with our Grand Morbid Funeral!" -Anders Nystrom of Bloodbath. I'm not saying they didn't use left hand wrath pedals on the GMF, they probably stacked the pedals but they're too big of fans of the classic HM-2 to ditch it on any album. The only time they didn't use it was their very first EP Breeding Death I'm pretty sure. Where did you hear they ditched it?
cultnation.com did an article on the history of the HM-2 pedal. It features interviews with many prominent swedish death metal guys including Anders Nystrom where he directly states that Bloodbath have permanently stopped using HM-2's. These are a few quotes from the article from Nystrom: "The HM-2 has been on every release except the first EP and was replaced by the Left Hand Wrath on the last album and live" "I simply reached out to Joe asking if he was interested in helping us taking the sound of the new Bloodbath record to the next level. After seeing/hearing his modded deluxe version it was clear it could help us achieve what we were after. That pedal’s versatility is superior to the original HM-2 and the other clones out there" "We’ve been using both the LHW and HM-2 depending on the different circumstances that may occur between live and studio work. Once the Bloodbath limited edition model of the LHW comes out that’ll be the only pedal we’re gonna use" Link to the article: www.cvltnation.com/buzzsaw-an-oral-history-of-the-hm-2-pedal/
Your absolutely right. Shit, that's the reason I didn't include Harm's way on here. They stopped using the HM-2 on their last album rust and opted for the throne torched. Thanks for the heads up. I was thinking of pulling this video for the terrible audio, I might just go ahead and replace the bloodbath part while I'm at it.
Nails technically used a Dunwich Tyrant on YWNBOOU, but it is all the same thing. The updated HM-2s almost preserve the sound better than the worn parts of the original.
Yea, there’s so many clones of the hm2 out there right now, it’s kind of hard to pinpoint all the bands changing who started off using the original pedal. With the popularity exploding of the hm2, I think some of the bigger bands are changing the sound slightly while some of the newer bands are worshipping the original pedal still.
The bassist from Conan uses an HM2 as his distortion pedal, shit sounds fucking massive.
At The Gates is recording their new album with an HM2 at the moment.

Check out Lik's "Carnage" album. Don't everyone thank me at once.

I was watching this and was wondering if you were going to mention Nails. glad you did. their tone is so mega.
Thanks for the video! Bloodbath is my favorite on this list!
The best distortion of ALL TIME

Wtf? No Rotten Sound???
That was the band I thought i was guaranteed to see.
Rotten Sound are the masters of HM2 abuse. Fuck, they're my favorite band that uses that pedal.
Sorry about the audio everyone, I know it's not the best. I'm working very hard to improve the audio quality in future videos, it's one of my priorities along with being one of my biggest weaknesses.
Mate there's literally nothing wrong with it
I initially disliked your video because of the audio problems, but then I liked it when you included Entombed. Thanks for being honest and striving to improve the audio.
Damn right Nails is number one.
I love that these bands actually have very audible bass, which is really lacking in a lot of death metal (not to say it doesn't happen, it's just that the extremely scooped guitar tones really leave no room for bass).
Atavisma plays doomed death metal with HM-2's on Sunn and Sovtek Amps, hailing from France.
Fank you thor dis thuking diskover !!

Entrails' logo even looks like Entombed's logo. That's a bit fishy.
I though it was the entombed logo lol
No it doesn't
I had read somewhere the guitarist said he doesn't use an HM2. I don't believe it...
@@ChordxClient could be one of the many copys, yo.
Came here chasing that high brought on by Black Breath, left here with Earth Rot, thanks so much!!
Any bands using modded HM-2’s by any chance?
what about gatecreeper
moisterooni there’s a part two to this video and gatecreeper plus more bands are on that one
My man. Gatecreeper are home-town boys.
Band slaps. LP2 coming this year.

Wolfbrigade as well... plus a lot of these bands (and others) are actually using (better) HM-2 clones now, and not actual HM-2s.
scrotal bursting heaviness lol
Also you have swedish death n roll "The generals"
Curious, you can clearly see the pedal board of Nails' frontman, no HM-2 to be found on it.
He uses a tyrant, which is a clone
The guitarist of DeadNation Band.... Rafael Spilere....from Tubarão - Santa Catarina - Brazil....also uses!!!
What about Soulrot?! Those guys are insane!
5:15 lol I wonder what shirts they had on
The HM-2 is also used by My Bloody Valentine. Bilinda Butcher has one on her pedal board.
If I remember well, I think I spotted a HM-2 pedal in the pedalboard of one of the Interment guitar players
great video and some good bands I didn't know about.
...I would love to see a list of non death metal bands still using the hm2
There are some grind and punk bands using them.
x235 ximon Godflesh
David Gilmore from Pink Floyd used a boss hm2 for a while
RelentlessVomit Wow really?!!.. you're joking aren't you?
Celarkus Spiritlord yes, David Gilmore actually uses it as a boost signal for his solo. I believe My Bloody Valentine also uses the HM-2 in some ways.
I'm gonna guess HM-2 uses an HM-2. It'd be pretty funny if they didn't though
You forgot Smothered!!!
most metal pedal ever!
Hey man, what is the name of the American band formed in 2009 that you mentionned after Bloodbath review, please ? I didnt" understand the name and can't read their awful logo ?

Bloodbath actually ditched the HM-2 on their last album and started using Left Hand Wrath pedals
