    Open your radiator cap and add antifreeze until radiator is full. As you pour slowly, air bubbles should surface. Unscrew the bleeder plug located at the end of the top radiator hose and add fluid in there until full. Close everything up, turn engine on and let it get to temp. While engine is running slowly unscrew bleeder plug until all bubbles are out and you see liquid. Put plug back in. Turn on heat and see if all is well.

    I’m 72, live in northern Saskatchewan, Canada it’s been -31 Celsius for 2 weeks! Heater blew cold air or lukewarm on hot. Trouble shooting with dealership said it was blend door actuator. I did more research and found your video! If you were here I’d hug n kiss you! My mechanic and I as I’m a mechanics daughter did what you said and my Liberty has never blown such hot air! Bless you and all your family 💙💙💙 thanks for posting 💙

      Hey that’s awesome! Thank you so much for the kind words! I’m glad I could help. FYI, you may have to flush it again next winter. It’s annoying, but it’s better than spending 2 days replacing the heater core. 😂

      This same thing happened to me I bought mine this summer and never realized the heat sucked real bad on drivers side. Then it got below cold here. My local mechanic did this for $75 and now my heat is burn your face off hot.

      ALBERTA... My Uncle (78) has both the Dodge Nitro and Jeep Liberty and BOTH have same heater problems... he stops on the road and switches in/out lines on heater core and it works again for a time....... the BIG PROBLEM (I think 45 years Auto-Body) is the main ENGINE WATER PUMP.... same as a Jet Ski stops pumping at high RPMs... The main Engine Water Pump stops fully circulating high road RPMs and is wore out at 150,000km but still keeps the Engine Cool..... !!! FIX !!! a 12Volt Pump on the Heater lines (RV or transfer Pump from CANADIAN TIRE or PRINESS AUTO) or a NEW ENGINE WATER PUMP that seems to be working fine but isn't... Hope this Helps someone :)

    My heater was blowing cold air and I was pissed. Tired of shivering so I went on RUclips to see if other owners were going through this. You just saved me so much time and money. Thank you! Just did this and now I’m with heat again. Appreciate you taking the time to make this video.

    Use longer clear hose so u can see the sand clumps come out. I soaked my 07;nitro for about an hour and backed and forward flushed. Did this on my nephews Chrysler 200 last night. I have also used draino

    Great Vid, I'm convinced after watching this and several others my wife's 2012 Jeep liberty needs a heater core flushing. I checked all the mechanics, Flow valve...good, Cabin air filter, changed and good, I get very little heat from the passenger side and cold air driver's side. I liked your method the best and will be duplicating it. Just ordered CLR from Amazon, now I have to get a couple of sample lengths of heater hose to hook up so I could flush it. Appreciate you taking the time to show this, I hope I can get er done!

    Didn't know this was such a common issue among Nitros/liberty's until my wife's decided to throw no heat as well and stumbled across a whole list of videos, yours seems to the point and I will be trying this method first as I already looked over the blend actuators and they fully rotate. Trying easy fix solutions first before attempting to tackle the heater core replacement.

    • @HotRodsHowTos
      @HotRodsHowTos  Год назад

      Yeah good luck. Hopefully flushing it will work for you. It’s a total pain in the butt to change the heater core. It’s not extremely difficult, but it is time consuming. And, the a/c refrigerant has to be drained before you start, and it has to be recharged after you finish. It’s a stupid design!

    Another helpful video. I know that heater core replacement sucks. You are correct when you say "Remove Everything". Since I'm also building an SN95 budget drag car I get to mess with the heater core just once when I remove it to save weight! ;-)
    Also, I have heard that you should use distilled water with your anti-freeze. Maybe that will get you more time between flushes.
    Keep up the great work. Love the videos.

    • @HotRodsHowTos
      @HotRodsHowTos  2 года назад

      Thanks. Back in the ‘90’s I had a foxbody and the heater core went out on it. The dealership wanted $400 to replace it. That was about $350 more than I had, so I did it myself. 😂. It was the same scenario. Had to remove the whole dash. I spent my entire weekend working on it. It was a complete nightmare.
      You’re right, you’re supposed to use distilled water, but who’s got time for that. 😂

    My good man, thanks for the info! Can you pls tell me what CLR is? I am one of the probably 10 Liberty owners in my country, possibly in the entire Europe. CLR stands for Calcium, Limestone and Rust? Would a regular calcium limestone remove work, like an appliance grade cleaner?

    • @HotRodsHowTos
      @HotRodsHowTos  22 дня назад +1

      CLR stands for Calcium, Lime, & Rust. It’s a multi use cleaner. (According the bottle, it can clean bathtubs, concrete, coffee pots, & washing machines).
      The calcium & lime remover that you have should work. You may want to vary the time that it sits in the heater core before you flush it out. The CLR I used is meant to be diluted, so it’s fairly strong in its concentrated form. Hence the short soak time. Good luck!

      @@HotRodsHowTos thanks alot my good man! By the way, you may want to edit the title and include the Wrangler JK on this issue and fix list, as the JK has the exact same issue. Liberty and Nitro are like 80% shared with the JK.

    • @HotRodsHowTos
      @HotRodsHowTos  22 дня назад

      I left it in there. But, if you have access to an air compressor, you could use an air blower and blow the tap water out of it. Just use low air pressure.

    Was one hose hot and the other cold on my wife’s jeep both hoses are hot to the touch. So I’m thinking it doesn’t need a flush but I guess it can’t hurt. I already checked both blend acuaters those are good. No coolant leaking at all. So I’m almost positive I shouldn’t have to replace the heater core. Any ideas?

    • @HotRodsHowTos
      @HotRodsHowTos  11 месяцев назад

      Yes, both hoses were hot before I flushed it. Coolant is getting through the heater core, that’s why both hoses are hot. But the heater core is partially blocked and not allowing it to heat up completely. (At least that’s what mine was doing).

    is a 3rd option the thermostat? I have 2009 liberty

    • @HotRodsHowTos
      @HotRodsHowTos  Месяц назад

      I wouldn’t think so. Unless the thermostat is sticking open, and your Liberty is having trouble getting up to operating temperature.
      The heater core can get so clogged that flushing it doesn’t help. At that point, you have to replace it.

    • @T-bone9

      @@HotRodsHowTos the liberty is getting to operating temp no prob, just not getting heat out of inside dash. Hopefully flushing out heater core will do the trick. I certainly don't want to replace it and even changing the thermostat is a pain as well.

    I own a 2007 Nitro. My heat works for about 2 seconds and then its cold air. I took it to a local shop. They said it is my blend door which they say is deep in the dash and would be a lot of labor cost. Just wondering if you know any other way I could get it to work without the shop.

    • @HotRodsHowTos
      @HotRodsHowTos  2 года назад +4

      Remove the panel that’s under the steering column. You’ll need that out of the way to get to it. You’ll also need a flashlight.
      Look under the dash (from the driver’s side) behind the switches. You’ll be able to see the actuators and the gears that control the blend door. Turn the switch on and move the temp selector back and forth and you’ll be able to see what I’m talking about.
      There’s some pretty good videos on RUclips. Sometimes the actuators fail and sometimes it’s just the gears that get jammed. Worst case scenario, you could pull the gears out and move the blend door to the hot side. You’d have full time heat, which would suck, but it get you through the winter without spending a bunch of money.
      If you haven’t tried to back flush the heater core, you should try that first. Our heat was doing the same thing. When you first turned it on, you could feel some warmth for a couple of seconds, and then it was gone and just blew cold.
