If I remember correctly, soldiers who were actually captured and killed got little attention. The media made it all about her, because she was a tiny smalltown girl.

      This is one of the reasons I didn’t serve, even after 9/11. My entire family served (dad, uncle, grandfathers, and back many generations). The military takes wonderful human beings (always young and naive) and treats them like crap. My uncle committed suicide after Vietnam not because of the horrors of war, but because of the constant way he was treated by civilians when he returned. Even cops were horrible to him, and he killed himself in 1982 with a shotgun. My dad begged me (as I’m an only child) not to join. He told me all of the realities of it, and especially how your treated after you get out and how horrible the VA is. And these incredible heroes are also grossly underpaid for what they do. My friend who was the commander of 1st Group SF, who I went to college with before he went to RIP (who just died of a heart attack hiking in Utah, Otto Liller, was in insane shape too, total stud), told me “unless you got stars on your shoulder, your always expendable, remember that.” I would have been a lousy soldier anyway. The military needs to treat and take better care of it’s people.

    I am a former US Marine Infantryman who served in Desert Shield/Storm. Special Operations people (especially SEAL's) have been lionized in our society to almost superhuman hero status and have been glamorized by movies, books, tv, and the yellow media.I felt when I was in the Corps and have always felt that Special Ops existed simply to do dirty and illegal jobs that regular military units would refuse to do. I also have always felt that Special Ops existed so that the government could secure and then launder endless amounts of taxpayer money without having any oversight or accountability. In addition it has always seemed that Special Ops existed to be the enforcer arm of the CIA. Either way you cut it these Special Ops guys are undisciplined, freebooting, criminals in my opinion whom have been given too many resources, too much freedom of action, and no accountability. In essence, a bunch of psychotic, drunken, coked up frat boys with a lot of cool toys and no consciences.

    • @joeblow9657
      @joeblow9657 6 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, I always thought it was weird how in a lot of media of FOBs in Afghanistan and the special forces units are completely separate from the line units. I get not telling them everything but it seems like being on the same page would be a good thing. Just look at how any iterations of ar-15 rifles and the SCAR they got which basically do more or less the same thing as an M4 block 2. I get upgrading kit when you have the need but you don't need the newest of everything because it's 'cool'. Spec ops seems like cops. They can hate each other but they refuse to hold each other accountable because of the profession.
      Sad part is, some of the stuff they ended up doing could be done by line units with specialized training.

    • @HarryPost-o9c
      @HarryPost-o9c 6 месяцев назад +4

      @@joeblow9657 Absolutely! I made a post a long time ago about just doing more training for regular line units. I got a whole lot of shit from people saying that it would cost too much money and not everyone would be able to complete the training, etc.. Well, let me say this; WE have hundreds of billions of dollars to piss away on Ukraine. We just gave Haiti 25 million dollars although they don't have a government anymore. So I have no idea who actually got the money. We give billions of dollars away a year in foreign aid to every country in the world. We gave Iran billions of dollars to build their nuclear program. I think it's safe to say money isn't the problem. As far as everyone not being able to do the training, that's a lot of BS too. Today's military personnel are healthier, better educated, stronger, and better prepared than ever before. When you enlist you typically go into the delayed entry program for however long until you ship to basic training. While in the delayed entry program your recruiter gets you ready for basic. You then go through basic. Graduating from basic is not guaranteed. People drop out of basic in every service. The Marines of course have the highest drop out rate at 15%. At least that was what it was when I was in the Corps. Then you go to your MOS school. You PT and go on Humps, etc.. When I was a grunt my unit went through Mountain Warfare School in Bridgeport California. We went as a UNIT and failing was not an option. You had to work as a team. You had to pull your own weight but also help others when they faltered. Teamwork and esprit de corps saw everyone through successfully. The point being is that if you made it past the initial hurdles then everyone is prepared for more advanced training. If you work as a team then everyone will be successful. I have always believed that ANYONE can be fully trained in any endeavor if they are PROPERLY trained. Some people may take more time to successfully complete the training. Some people may be better at particular skill sets than others but EVERYONE can succeed at a basic level. A good example would be snipers. Not everyone can be a sniper but with proper training a person that initially qualified as a marksman can train enough to improve to sharpshooter or even expert. The more training a person has the more effective he is no matter how much or how little it improved him.

    • @joeblow9657
      @joeblow9657 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@HarryPost-o9c Precisely! It's sad how the US military really became a 2 tier system where there is the big military and SOCOM and JSOC. You can get units capable of doing special forces support roles (not too dissimilar to what the Rangers did before becoming a direct action, tier 2 unit) if you train them and have the budget and standards. Instead you have former special forces guys saying garbage like Afghanistan shouldn't have had regular units fighting it, which makes no sense in a counter insurgency perspective once you remember the numbers required to maintain an effective presence.
      IMO a major missed opportunity was not just taking line units that showed potential and giving them a lower level direct action role. You could weed out those who don't make the cut and ask for volunteers to replace them. A lot of British commando and airborne units in WW2 were just converted line units that followed what you suggested.You don't need SEALS and Rangers to take out every single small time local commanders, a provincial commander sure but a local Taliban company commander probably not.
      Don't even need the budge to convert all line units, could've just selected the desired number of battalions and designated them for that role.
      Also, it's kind of funny how physical standards are so all over the place in some line units when training and conditioning are pretty cheap to do. Hell, the French Foreign Legion has excellent PT standards because they don't have the budget to focus on more training exercises.
      Lastly, great point about snipers, they're in line units but they're often operating behind enemy lines because like you've said, they've been given the training.

      I am a Retired US Marine, I was very lucky early in my years in the Corps I was surrounded by a few Great Leaders.… One of those Leaders talked to me about a Real Dirt bag we had in our Unit that was way up there in our Command Structure. Of course he pointed out the bad qualities of this person yet he also said You have to learn to use people to understand how you lead... Then he went on to explain, you can't just learn from watching The Good in Leaders, You also have to watch and pay attention to the Bad in Leaders to know What Not to be like... Then he explained the real hard part was understanding that Even Bad Leaders also have Really Good Traits also that you need to learn how to implement into your Leadership style.… With that he pointed out some of the Really good things this Dirt bag did that I should emulate... The hard part is understanding that if you actually pay attention to your surroundings and want to learn things to become better You really learn more from the Negative things people do because it's easier to see when people do stupid things so you know not to do them…. And then it's even harder to pay attention to those Really Bad Leaders to see the actual good things they do,,, yet when you really look for them and find them it makes a BIGGER impact... Now move on a bunch of years into My Marine Corps life... I became really good in my Occupational Specialty,,, I mean Really Good... I was advancing a lot quicker than others.… I was given a few special programs to start up in the Unit I was in... Then right after I completed the implementation of the last program I started up I was sent to be an Instructor at the School for my military occupational specialty.… I actually had a hard time fitting into the School house environment... Then one of the Course Supervisors had a talk to me about the problems,,, this person actually knew me from My years of being out in the Real Marine Corps... Well he explained to me something I heard in the Past... Those that can Do,,, Do,,,, Those that Can't,,, Teach... As I looked around at the Marines there I noticed that The really good Marines out in The Marine Corps had a harder time and had to work harder to be really good in a Class Room and it was just the opposite if a Marine was not really good in The Marine Corps they had an easier time fitting it in the Class Room... I always thought something was off with Jocko so after what I have come to know about him it only makes sense to me that he talks really good about how to be a Leader...

Some people need to realize some of these guys are just sociopaths legally killing, and like serial killers their ego gets the best of them. Real Profesional soldiers would have cared less about the circumstances that lead to this.
    Interesting fact is that Dedolph was one of the first, if not the first, SEAL corpsman to go straight through the SFMS/IDC program. He was a very good medic, in both skills and knowledge. Normally the SEAL medics would just do the first 6 months of the SOCM program with the Rangers, which is basically all trauma focused. Dedoplh was mature enough and skilled enough to be approved to go through the entire course. He was also an amateur mma fighter prior to joining. With that information, now consider the circumstances and tell me if a guy that skilled and knowledgeable bungles those two skills as they claimed. It was premeditated and he should be put to the plank befitting the traitor that he is.

I really do hope that actions are being taken prevent another incident like this doesn't take place again.

    The continuous issue with these SEAL disasters seems to be supervision. Lack of supervision. Lack of consequences from supervision. Overall lack of leadership. I think the scope of their operations needs to be pulled way back. They seem to be operating way beyond their design, staffing, equipment, and training. How they constantly override the other branches baffles me.

    As a GWOT Veteran I am disgusted by the crime...the cover-up...and the lax sentence! As a military we have to do some real soul searching.

    I disagree completely we want people with good morals and values and trust me. Those people could be just as ruthless as the criminal. The criminal will always be there for the self. The moral guy will always be there for the team in the mission. Big difference. I understand what you’re saying Mat but I disagree

    This is disgusting on multiple levels.The SEALS have some real deviants and criminals in their ranks. Looks like MARSOC isn't any better. I don't see how the operators in Army SF can have any collective kind of cordial much less professional relationship with either the SEALS or MARSOC after this.

    If things are truly this ethically bad (not disagreeing) then our CI corps is somehow complicit if these guys/leadership are getting to keep their clearances, right?

Which is the only book I’ve sat down and read in 10 years. Also, with all of this publicity your getting it’s time to get together an office to video from instead of your bedroom😂

    The problem is that you are dealing with dangerous people. I spent three tours in Vietnam with Special Forces and Ranger units, so I have some experience. Basically, strong NCO's are the key to team disciple. Sure, there were fights, but people didn't get stupid. There seems to be a different attitude among current spec ops.

    Do a podcast on corrupt contractors and Halliburton/KBR no bid contracts in Iraq. This is a high profile horrific incident here , however there are many more similar. Stories of greed and corruption, black market, no accountability.
