AWOL at Paradise club was the place to be 93 to 94 most memorable night Christmas night 1994 live recording for their album one of my best memories from the 90s best Christmas of my life hands down❤❤
Back then GQ was the best host! In the 90s and 2000s his voice was immense. If you like someone toasting and not MCing then I hear you on that. It's gotta be GQ. However, you have to big up MC MC, MC Det, MC Navigator, MC Fearless, the Ragga Twins and Stevie Hyper D who were also masters of the craft and were foundation MCs who also toasted, brought lyricism, flow and those memorable crowd interactions. Good times raving!
I hail from up north so I only ever got to 1 Awol night @Sw1 bout 95 if my memory serves me correctly.Got thrown out bout 2am sneaked back in not long after with a different top on lol.Bouncers were mash up lol 8:09
Probably the best club in the world! Wonder how they recorded almost 4 hours in one go back in those days? This must be a 9am to 1pm set when AWOL became more of an after hours/carry on. Used to get two lots of crowds in those days. The early crew that would leave around 6ish and those that turned up around 6ish. I remember turning up between 5am to 7am and there was always still a bit of a que to get in.
AWOL - Paradise Club N1 - wow man..... Went to a New Years Eve there in the early 90's - the DJ on the flyer after midnight or so into the early hours was unable to play for whatever reason. A "substitute" organised. As I remember it from the MC that night, he conveyed it to the crowd that the original DJ was unable to make it but "we have one of our own who is not so well known, please welcome your DJ" That unknown DJ was Darren Jay & it was FUCKING AMAZING
Just up ! On new years day and looked at my phone saw all the messages and see micky finn and darren j at awol!! Had to give it go man! Sick! Thanks man ! What a treat

This is what I live for. This music changed my life. Was at AWOL from 17 yrs old. Serious business.
So true they don't make anything like this these days.
Never got to go to an AWOL event sadly 😔
