My computer gives me new landscape images as screen savers every morning. Today's was Glen Coe in the Highlands of Scotland. Wow, what a gorgeous place! And it turns out that many movies have been filmed there including three Harry Potter movies, Braveheart, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the Bond movie "Skyfall" and, of course, Highlander. (And there's the "Glencoe massacre" that was one of the inspirations for the grisly episode known as "The Red Wedding" in Game of Thrones.) I wonder if, while on your next visit to the library, you might see if there's a book about Glen Coe. The images I saw really knocked my socks off. Here's a funny story for you, as well. I once had a past-life regression done and in this "memory" of another life, I was in a high tower (which was really cold and drafty!) overlooking a gorgeous landscape and thinking, "All of this land is mine, as far as the eye can see." I was female and apparently I was some sort of royalty but it seemed like these were, for lack of a better word, "barbaric" times -- really rough and tumble, and of course as we know from Shakespeare and from Game of Thrones, I had enemies that wanted to take my castle and my lands. I felt very protective of "my people" and I was trying to gather allies to help me hold onto my land. Standing beside me in this "memory" was a very rugged fellow wearing a kilt and carrying a massive sword (I know, that's very Freudian, ha ha) and he had a red beard, but I couldn't really see his face. His name was Erik the Scot. He was Swedish AND Scottish. He was my champion. Well, as I was driving home after this fun experience, I am behind a car at a stop sign and the license plate reads ERIK. Holy crap! Later, I went to the library to look up early Scotland's history and I came across this illustration of "Erik the Highlander" (!) kneeling before a Roman emperor! The emperor at that time was Heraclius. Erik was wearing a kilt and he had a giant sword, and a long beard (it was a black and white illustration, so I don't know if his hair was red). It was my champion! Apparently, based on this image, my "memory" was from about 640 A.D. And apparently there was intermarriage between Vikings and what would eventually become known as the people of Scotland. But that would put my memory more around the 800s- 900s. Around 640, what would become Scotland, I think was still a conglomoration of tribes. Most likely Erik was a Pict, I think, not a "Scot". But maybe that's just my brain trying to make sense of what I was seeing in my "memory." I really know almost nothing about Scotland's history. (There are some impressive castles in Glen of Coe. Maybe those were my lands?) You don't hear that kind of story everyday, do you? BTW, the images of Glen Coe that I saw today are at: www.bing.com/images/search?q=glen+coe+scotland&FORM=wsbs01&filters=IsConversation:%22True%22+BTEPKey:%22Encyclo_WL_GlencoeHighlandScotland%22&trivia=1
Wow, what a fascinating story! I'll definitely see if I can find a book on Glen Coe for you. I was there about ten years ago, it's a fabulous place. I also went to see Castle Stalker (a bit further south - 14th Cent castle where Monty Python also filmed), amazing!
Ooh these look lovely. Thank you for an awesome video as always. I don't really comment on videos but I watch all of yours so thank you 😊Where is it you get these coffees from as I haven't seen them in the supermarkets 😊
