Anton doesn't remember him because when he beat Reese up, Reese had long scraggly hair, a full beard and I don't think actually talked at all in that scene. In this one, Reese has cleaned himself up, is clean shaven and actually speaks to Anton for the first time.
John was doing the public a favor here. He removed a number of guns from being used by criminals and kept said criminals from using those guns. A win-win-lose. John wins, the public wins, and the criminals lose.
I like to think that those guns are among the ones we see in season 2 when Finch ends up hiding in John's armory closet after bringing the dog to Johns apartment.
I find it strange how they were all aiming for him and then suddenly, they're all scrambling to grab a weapon or have trouble aiming. Still a great scene though.
There's a later scene where Finch is hiding in Mr. Reese's closet and sees ALL the guns, grenades, etc that Reese has... it's a great follow up to this scene!
This scene was almost believable, right until 0:57. Putting a gun you've just fired multiple times back there might give you burns in places where you really, really, REALLY don't want any.
Liked the series a lot. The underlying premise is the same as the Terminator movies and later TV franchise: how to make a computer program that is singularly directed? So far as I know that hasn't been figured out yet. If you think about it for a second or two, such a program might make a near perfect servant or "slave." Which is a peek under the hood of the 'Terminator' series as that whole franchise is basically about a slave revolt. So civil rights reimagined or repurposed to include a computer program or programs.
