i had a 71 green fast back it got 32 miles 2 a gallon gas was 25..9 cents per gallon i paid 2000.00 new i drove 2 San Diego when i was stationed there in the navy then i drove it 2 lakehurst new jersey 2 go 2 school while in the navy it was a great car i wish i never got rid of it
yes i did and commented about that it looked like the hood was going to fly rignt off the car better put some loovers on hood and hood pins for reals , nothing worse than hood blowing up slamed into windshield cant see were u going at 180 mph all bad .com
How much weight do they add to keep it from leaving the ground? On 2 of those runs looks like the hood is coming up (.44/2:00 in the video) Would have been nice to see under the hood.
Nice! Small idea: either vent the engine compartment out the back of the hood or block off more of the grille - that poor hood is about to blow off with all that air pressure at 180+ mph.
I'll never say it enough, the Aussie's got balls of steel and the gutts to take anything and make it run to world class levels. I assume this is a rotary engine. First time I saw one at the track in the mid 80's, a guy with a Mazda, that I thought was a Datsun, staged and stomped the gas for 2 seconds and then dumped the clutch. I LMFAO because I thought he was some dude trying to blow his four banger up.....but he ran a 11.93....INSANELY fast back in those days. I went to the pit and talked to him and told him my story and he laughed and said "you got to learn about these rotary engines dude". That was a long time ago.
It wasn't the slowest Datsun with a bit of work.....I drove one for 20 years, until the floor rotted out. Mild porting and a header on the old A-12 (custom ground Competition Cams camshaft...) and it would surprise you!
If you look closely at the hood in the last run, you'll see it lifting up where it meets the fenders. Lots of air packing up under the hood. Louver the crap out of the hood to release the air pressure and you might gain a few tenths!
That is a disturbingly serious little piece of kit.... It has all the serious hardware of a drag car, but in half the size and weight... it certainly gets moving. Go to the end and watch the last run, look at the bonnet all crumpled up by the aero forces... it looks like newspaper...
Great! The 2JZ-GTE is an inline-layout, six-cylinder, belt-driven dual overhead camshaft, air-intercooled, twin-turbocharged, cast-iron block, aluminium cylinder headed engine designed and manufactured by Toyota Motor Corporation that was produced from 1991 until 2002 in Japan.
I had a 1970 coupe back in the day, great car durable as hell so easy to work on, with a four speed driving conservatively I could get forty miles per gallon, but it was definitely not this fast, lol. 😄
I loved these 1200’s I worked at a Datsun dealership many years ago and had 3 of these. I beat the crap out of them and always came back for more. It’s sucks the rusted to nothing
They call this car THE " Green Hornet " It will sting your ASS from the tree to the end of the Quarter! Man, This car is fast! How much for a ride? SHAWN
Fuckin looks mad hey? When grandad bought this car new it didn’t go but after taking it to a good mechanic who knew how to tweak a carbie it goes good now. Thanks Lubemobil.
It's a well sorted rear end bro. That's what these cars are meant to do, it's all in the 4 link adjustment... They work off what's called the 'instant centre' line to get the traction dialled in. You draw a straight line from the bottom of the rear tyres to the true centre of gravity point in the front of the car, setting the 4 link bar intersect points on one side loads the tyres softly, the other side of that line loads them abruptly to put it in simple terms. Then they have to work out the fore and aft position of the intersect point to get the car to hook. It's a bit technical, but once sorted the cars drive pretty straight and true
Quick fact. When this brand was in production, they couldn't think of a brand name. The chairman asked when they would have a name picked out, the table said we will have one by the end of the day. The boss said "wow datsun??!!"
I wish we had more more 2J's, RB's and rotary's in the U.S There are a good bit but it seems like most are up North. I am a diehard Chevrolet dude till I die but I got a soft spot for RB'S if I ever build a import race car it will be a rb30 with a 26 head in either a old 280 Z or a 240 with a Silva front end. In my opion RB's are the best sound straight six period.

@@azmike1956 ... my buddy wasn't hiding anything. He flared the rear fenders, and used a Chevy differential with deep offset wheels. The rubber was around 12" wide. the hood looked like it was going to ripe right off the car that was amazing how fast that car is wow and basically a stock appearing body other than the fat slicks on the rear of it
Damn, that little car launches and runs so straight, time after time. That is seriously well set up...
This thing is absolutely INSANE !!! Good driver too .....👍

@@earlfrancis76 Datsun powered by Toyota, who would have ever?
@Ray Be kind to others, it goes a long way The proof is in the pudding.
@Ray Be kind to others, it goes a long way Narrow is good, too. The tough part is the short wheelbase.
I like !!! I had a bone stock 1200 coupe, a 1971. It would turn the 1/4 mile in 7 minutes....
Wow mine did the same, but was on the back of a tow truck :):)

I had a 78 Datsun I think it was a B210 it was so slow you had to clock in the quarter mile with a sundial
I got y'all beat. I had the one with a automatic transmission.
It maxed out at about 85mph......all 63 horse power of her lol.
I had a 1973 1200 coupe with extractors wound it off the clock down hill with a tail wind
Making such a short wheelbase car go straight at that speed. Very impressive.
Hard to Believe it Runs So Straight Damnit Man Great Job And The Lil Bastards Freekin Fast Too ..Carry On
When the driver opens his door it looks like he's smoking a big fatty Cheech & Chong style.
I can dig it maaan.
I think he said his name was ...Rrraaalllph...
You mean we're smoking dog shit
Did anyone notice that hood buckle and bow from the inside pressure!! If that let loose at that speed ,major chaos!😱
I was thinking the same thing; just wait until a pin lets go and it's !!!!!praaaaaamm!!!!.. clean your shorts type of deal.

Well he's driving it more straight than an arrow....as you and everybody can see.
