Glad to see Morley put out an analog EFX unit, despite all the IR/Digital stuff that has been over-saturating the guitar EFX market in the last several years.
Big, beautiful, rugged, everything you need, nothing you don't...Can survive being kicked or Beer spilled on it. No menu's or screen's......instruction manual not required. Pedal makers and Multi-FX, Modeller Companies, please take note. Great review as always. Keep on pickin' and grinnin' as the say. Cheers from Canada.
My lizard brain is glad that Morley is still around. This is very nice, and a throwback kind of design in keeping with their vintage stuff. When I was a teen in the (ahem..) 70's. I had a Morley Fuzz-Wah and it was a truly awesome beast. Oh, and I played bass back then! lol I hope there's a market for this. It's nice to see them making quality product. (I don't know why the stereo signal has the echo on the left only though. That seems a bit strange to me. )
So this is a NEW pedal?? I had no idea Morley still existed let alone are still making beautiful big bulky steel pedals which go so against the grain of today’s “smaller footprint is better” ethos. Love it!
Can't wait for one to arrive. Back in the day I used one of their EVO-1A Delays. Built like a tank but it finally died and Morley couldn't service it anymore as they said the EPA accused them of using Carcinogenic Oil in the can. UPDATE: Found one on Ebay and offered them $250 for it and it was advertised as "Used". Arrived yesterday...opened the box and it is BRAND NEW. Sounds amazing. :)
Brett, Thank You for the in depth video coverage on the AFX-1. Love to hear you rippin around on your Charvel on the High Gain and Delay👍🏻 My Favorite! Great chops and Riffs! You made me want the Morley!
This is oddly encouraging because I still have my original power wah boost and echo chorus vibrato pedals from the seventies early eighties and they still work 👽
Love the Charvel - I have the "Plum" version of that guitar. As always, I appreciate your laid back persona and accurate/detailed product demo. Great job and good vibrations to you, sir!
Great demo as always! I really like the concept but $500 might be a price point ever slightly too high. I think if they had targeted a $400 it would be a no-brainer to keep handy for grab-and-go gigs. For the $500 I'd think they should have configured the wah to be a switchable volume/wah or parkable/wah as in their 20/20 series. Something ever so slightly beyond just a wah. I mean after all.. it's a Morley pedal.. and it's a "Kitchen Sink" concept... so PUT IN THE KITCHEN SINK!! LOL! Great demo amigo! Happy New Year too! Hope your family's well and we get updates! Time flies!
You are probably correct about the price....BUT.....There will be some kid somewhere that buys it, realise's it doesn't make him sound any better.....OR.......have a salesman convince him he can not live without Amp modelling, Impulse Response, Black Hole Cosmic Trail Super Nova delay, and of course USB, and return it or sell it used. The same thing happened with the EHX Tone Tattoo........this one looks like a keeper as well.
i use one in my band, we do a lot of 90's music and it works amazing for it. my old board included a dunlop classic crybaby, ehx small clone, ehx russian big muff, ehx memory boy, and a phase 90 and this thing is my only pedal now. let that say it all.
@Brett Kingman How'd you think this thing would work into a dirty amp with the gains turned down or sculpted to the amp and just use the EQ as a boost for High gain skulpting ..of course :)
I just bought this and I need help 😂 I'm trying to hook this up to my marshall dsl and also use my tuner and my overdrive for a boost. I am so lost and the internet is blank
It's cool but they're making the same mistakes they did with 80's units like this. I would have preferred the loop before distortion for a compressor, or guitarists like me who use phaser and flanger before dirt. The distortion section is very good and useful, probably its best feature. The chorus is quite brilliant, could have benefitted from a tone knob to work better with distortion. The echo is very basic but sounds cool, dark and gritty. It's a pretty good unit overall and I totally dig the old school but it's not for me in my case. I would prefer a full-size "Pro" unit with a comp and a 500 ms delay with tap-tempo.
I bought a Morley wah pedal, and it didn't last very long before it packed up! I've been using Cry Baby Wah's ever since, and they have always worked better for me.
Looks great but wish it was overdrive and a clean boost circuit instead if distortion and even more distortion, also c’mon that chorus light should be blue!
Paul, I have one, and the distortion side of the pedal has a very wide range, so it does work very well for a clean boost all the way up to heavy distortion.
I don't think so. It sounds really good, and four really nice effects for $500 isn't a bad price. The distortion sounds great. The delay could use a bit more delay time but it's good for a basic delay sound. That wah sounds really good, too, as does the chorus.
First pedal was a Morley Wah (with selectable dirt circuit). Will never buy anything from them again - horrible sounding pedal. Had to click the link to see Brett make Morley sound good.

The chorus and echo are fantastic, but I'm really impressed with that drive section!
It sounds excellent to me 🎸

Addicted to your videos Brett. Great stuff my dude.
Oh wow, that's cool...I've always liked there wah especially that George Lynch version, but this looks next level.
This looks like a great pedal, will be the second I've bought (once I buy it) based on Brett's recommendation and demo.
This is oddly encouraging because I still have my original power wah boost and echo chorus vibrato pedals from the seventies early eighties and they still work 👽
Sounds damn good, Brett.

There's a lot to be said about keeping it simple.

Should have had an switch for the effect loop, like the Ibanez units did
Morley wah is a classic in my book
Looks bloody terrific. Tried one out today, can’t wait to buy it once I’ve saved up

Do you use the efx loop?

LOVE THE TONE OF A MORELY WAH!!!!
Excellent Demo !!!!
bro they put diamond distortion in this!!!
MIGHT actually buy one of these.... They sound amazing....
I love this
Thank you' Great video and product! 🎼🎸
Really liking those charvels I see!
Sounds great!
Can the delay self oscillate?
Shit gotta have it.
Damn, that’s a great wah. I haven’t played through one since the late 70s. It’s fat!
Nice sound
I'd really like to hear this connected to a Tech21 Flyrig 5 v2 with the 4 cable method, recorded direct. I think that would be a monster combination.
Sounds great to me,how's the feel?
@Brett Kingman How'd you think this thing would work into a dirty amp with the gains turned down or sculpted to the amp and just use the EQ as a boost for High gain skulpting ..of course :)
👍🏻👍🏻
So what about just running this thing direct?
Does the expression pedal also work as a volume pedal, or does it only function as a wah wah pedal?
I just bought this and I need help 😂

You make everything sound good! Simple but great! Reverb would have been nice.
You mean in the vid or the pedal?

Swap the chorus with a phaser and the dirt with an overdrive and fuzz. Then this could be a great take and jam pedal
Nooooooooooooooo.
No volume function on pedal.
why e everything morley does have so terrible design, looks like a prototype and is amazingly big and space consuming? Why? Its 2024. Come on...
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooo overpriced!
If you bought those effects separately it would be more!!!
How much is it? The site doesn't have the price.
