The recently developed True North Square which is adjacent to the arena has a public plaza, including a large video screen for fans to gather before the games. Eaton's Centre, which was the office and shopping centre that stood next to the old Eaton's building is now called City Place and does very good business before and after games.
Bell MTS Centre is basically the smaller version of the Bell Centre in Montreal!! Great place & atmosphere to watch a hockey game. The only difference between the 2 buildings is that even though the Habs haven't won in 26 years, when they were at the Forum. The Bell Centre exemplifies the tradition & history of the Forum with the banners of retired players & past championship team that hangs from the rafters, it also still houses the organ that plays music & the siren that signals the end of a period or game. What's great about Bell MTS Centre is that while it might be the smallest rink to host an NHL game, it size is actually an advantage to the Jets because of how boisterous the crowd can get & it literally feels that the crowd is on top of you.
Wilner Olivier yup exactly. Head over and watch my vid on the Bell Centre! I think the Bell Centre has a few more bells and whistles! That’s what I kind of mean when I say Bell MTS suits Winnipeg. It’s a small and mighty rink!
Downtown is constructing True North Square currently. An outdoor viewing area for games a few blocks away. Also in regards to naming rights, maybe can shed some light on that. MTS was our local cell phone provider that recently got bought out by Bell. They called it BellMTS in Manitoba. Well BellMTS announced (of course) that they will be phasing out the MTS portion and just be called Bell in Manitoba. Would not at all be surprised to see them drop mts from the buildings name. Signage on the building has Bell and MTS as separate pieces so it would be as simple as removing the 1 piece.
TheFeniuk thanks for the info. When it comes to naming rights, overall I try not to get too deep into it...unless it’s really unique (Boston with 31 name changes with google auctions etc) there is a lot of business side of things with bankruptcies, mergers that it can get pretty detailed and I’ve just decided to mostly mention just the current term in my series. But that is interesting Bell is doin the Rogers thing and taking everything over.
The atmosphere outside Canada Life Centre (formerly BELL MTS Place, formerly MTS Centre, formerly True NorthCentre) during playoffs is INCREDIBLE. When they block off the surrounding streets and 20,000 people jam in there it is PANDEMONIUM. I absolutely insist you haven’t seen anything until you’ve squeezed in there during a playoff game.
It was never intended to be an NHL arena. It's on a small piece of land & has been modified a few times since the Atlanta franchise was moved to Winnipeg.
Why would you use a picture of it pre renovation? It looks nothing like that anymore. And nothing for plaza's outside the rink? They literally just built true north square outside the arena 🤦♂️ if you're gonna do these videos, take it seriously. Mention the 60M put into the place. Show some pictures of the new loge seating or concourses. This is a terrible representation of one of the NHL's most unique buildings.
Think you need to watch it again. I’m pretty positive about Bell MTS so don’t get your nose out of joint too much. The plaza won’t be complete until 2020. If you watch my video on Rogers Place I don’t go into detail about the Ice District because it’s not done either. But once it’s done I’ll for sure mention it in an update video.
The abbreviation for Manitoba is MB, MN is Minnesota
Mitch Alby 🤦🏻♂️ooops. You’d think I would definitely know that.
A trick : you can watch movies on flixzone. Been using it for watching lots of of movies lately.
@Christian Timothy definitely, I have been using Flixzone} for since december myself :)
@Christian Timothy Yea, have been watching on flixzone} for months myself =)

Maybe another idea you can do is take a look at former NHL arenas around the league. Like maybe Boston Garden, LA Forum to name a few.
alk61695 yeah good idea. But idea was to give history on rinks that people will go visit. The Forum is still around, but gardens is long gone.
True. But I'm sure some people may be interested about past arenas. I would be. Looking forward to upcoming content.
Including the old Winnipeg Arena 😊

if it "literally feels that the crowd is on top of you", how many people is each person in the bowl carrying? 1,000? 2,000? 5,000?

Why does it look like it is squeezed in between buildings?
