I am not a Christian (am Muslim) but we learnt it in our religious studies class. Egg symbolises a new beginning and there’s also a story which I don’t remember well about why you colour the eggs.

We were taught that for the eggs, Virgin Mary put a basket of eggs (forgot why) at the base of the cross Jesus was on and the blood turned them red, which is why we dye eggs red.

The right answer is that Easter was a pagan fertility celebration (eggs and rabbits symbolize this for obvious reasons) and Christians co-opted the festival to gain popular support with the pagans. Did the same thing with Christmas.
