So we mulitply the amount of oxygen by 5 to get 1250/3 (416.67) moles of air. 1 moles of any gas occupies 24dm3 (litres) of volume in standard conditions (which I'm using for . So we multiply 1250/3 by 24 to get 10000 litres of air. Then plus a 10% extra to make extra sure oxygen will be in excess and ensures complete combustion. So all in all 11000 litres of air or 11 cubic metres of air. Though of course since we're reacting in air, carbon isnt going to be the only thing which will be reacting. Nitrogen gas (which makes up 78% of the air) can also react with the oxygen so in reality we'd need more air.
