Big mistake everyone! The blade has a *21 mm* constant beam, not 22!
Yeah i was about to asking if it changed. It should be a 20.6 costant beam
Is that PTP in the strings…

Hey Luca have you tried the Blade Pro. How does it compare to the normal Blade?
I will say it again. This guy is becoming a GOAT reviewer. His points are so spot on and constantly improving. It’s very important when you are reviewing one of the best or maybe the most iconic line of racquets right now to have experience of how V5 or even Kblade or even how V4 of tsitsipas plays and performs.
In Luca we trust (+ the Czech "Tennis Guy")
Yeah and he’s actually good at tennis unlike some other reviewers
@@CB-mr1ci not everyone plays tennis at his level. Quite the opposite. For me, every feedback regardless the level can be useful as soon as it comes with hitting clips to compare our level of hitting to the reviewer.
You’re so right!
Thank you so much! What can I say, I love my Blades 😅
Luca might be the best tennis reviewer in the world right now
agreed
Thank you!
Another awesome review, really love the comparisons to previous generations and just commentary on the evolution of the line.
Thank you very much!
Great review! Best review I’ve seen thus far on the new blade. Earned yourself a new subscriber 👍🏻
Thank you very much!
Absolutely great review!
Always great reviews, thank you
You're welcome! (And thank YOU)
Awesome review luca 👏💯
Let’s go it’s finally here!
I started playing with the Blade V5 in 2015, I loved that racquet and can't remember why I made the switch to the Pro Staff. I am now making my way back to the Blade with this new model. Can't wait for my two racquets to come in the mail. :)
Hey could you describe your experience shifting over to the blade from the pro staff? Was thinking of doing the same
Great review, I’m a version 7 guy, very intrigued. You hit a nice ball!
Thank you! Give it a shot, I think you'll like that better crispness.
Luca the Goat in tennis youtube
Your videos are so dynamic and entertaining dude
Yes he’s really good!!
@@AlexTennisChannel You too bro. Keep up with these good videos 💪
Thank you so much!
Really enjoy your channel! Would love to see a review on the blade 100 v9.
That was a master class, you should be proud of yourself sir!
Thank you very much!
Great Review. I hope you are planning on reviewing the V9 100L as well. Thanks!
Thank you! I’m not sure about the L but we’ll definitely be reviewing the 100.
Good review. You did a good job comparing the new version with the previous versions. The info is helpful to existing Blade players who might want to upgrade. For the same reason, it would be helpful to non-blade players if you'd briefly compare this racquet with a couple other popular control racquets. Some people might consider/reconsider the blade given the new improvements.
Thank you, and good call! Thanks for the feedback!
We need a video about the five or 10 best tennis racets for a one-handed backhand
Ok, ok... I'll do my best 😅
yes give us OHBH players some extra love.. its not easy with all those 2HBH power players out there@@RacketsRunnersVancouver
What an amazing review. Killed it big guy. I wish you'd have a go in the "V8" Noir. Though I'm almost positive that was a v9. That is the blade to have just about perfect. To blade users: Stiff polys at low tension is the play. Think 4g/4g soft and lynx tour in the mid to low 40s.
Thank you very much! I haven't tried the Noir yet but it had that higher swingweight so you could be right although that would be kind of crazy from Wilson.
Yo man, love your vids. Please review the blade 100. Just tried blade 100, strike 98 and the pure drive 100. I must say all were great rackets but the blade was just a special one for me. Would love to see your blade 100 review and maybe even a comparison video.
We’re getting it in March and I’ll get it done as soon as it’s here.
Absolutely great
We need a new Blade 98 and PS 98 comparison review! Just switched to the new PS98 16x19, tell me I didn't make a mistake lol.
They are both awesome, don't worry. I definitely want to make a video like that soon.
I play with the V8 16×19. I just demoed the V9.. it's great! But I was not too convinced about upgrading
🤔
me too, my conclusion is not worth the upgrade from v8 because they are really close. Let's wait for the v10 or v11 lol
Is there foam and silicone in the handle? I popped my v8 butt cap and was surpirse to see one side foam filled one side clear material. Feels great.
Great review as always! Thank you! Any chance to demo or talk about the Blade Pro V9?
Thank you! Unfortunately, I can't talk about it since it's not a racket we will ever be able to carry.
Great review once again Luca. Btw, I like your hoodie, is it something that will be available on R&R maybe?
Unfortunately not. It’s Uniqlo and it’s been discontinued.
Love your reviews. so passionate and easy to understand for everyone. Could you please make a comparison with strike 98 gen 4?
Yes! Comparisons are coming.
Luca have you reviews the percept 97D? I know you did the standard one but if you haven’t I’d love to see a review on the 97D please.
I haven't gotten to try that one yet, unfortunately.
Your videos are awesome and really show that you put in the time and effort. Great job! BUT how come your strings are always so crooked? Gotta straighten those up. 😁
Thank you very much! That's just how they notch! Can't do much about it, I've never been one to move them around after a point.
Love your videos,
Would you buy a Wilson Blade V8 16x19 for 179 USD or Pure Aero 98 for regular price.
I am currently using Prince Warrior 100 ESP from 2014 and play with lots of spin and power .
Another 2 great points where you mention that V9 gives you a more heavy ball hitting experience when you go for it which is un-cupped in a way because it depends on your level…. I got exactly the same feeling. The better i hit the more power I could extract and not the easy power in terms of depth V8 is more capable of but wit no weight behind the ball……
Hi Luca, great review as always! What is the string you have on the racket? It's a nice color.
Thank you! That's Babolat RPM Rough 17.
is it worth an upgrade? or worth paying more bucks if there is a discounted v8?
I think you should answer these questions with each review!!
Thanks for the great review! I’m 4.0-4.5 and have been using the Pro Staff 97 for a while now. It hits great when my footwork and timing are precise, but i can get sluggish with it when against big hitter, as I often swing late and feels the racket getting heavy. Would you say that the Blade 98 is a racket that’s worth demoing? Given that it should have similar control as the Pro Staff (the main thing I like about my Pro Staff, other than Roger was playing with it), but lighter weight and better spin?
Yes it's the perfect racket to try for yourself!
Can you please tell me which one has more control: Blade V9 16x19 or 2023 Prestige MP-L? Thanks!
Amazing review! I recently switched to the Yonex Percept 100 as I was looking for more control in my game and I love it. Though I generally use a lot of spins which is not what the Percept is best at. How do you compare that Blade v9 in term of control and spin with the Percept 100?
The 98 will have significantly more control, and the spin is quite similar despite it having a smaller head size.
Love your videos! do you think you can do a comparison between the head speed mp and the gravity mp?
Yes, that's definitely a video I would like to make soon.
Great review! Any idea how this feels relative to the V7 16x19 blade? Thats currently my racquet of choice but looking to buy a new set
Much less mushy and more crisp with a more defined sweet spot. I think it's worth the switch!
Hey Luca, huge fan of the channel. I saw that you’ve also reviewed the PS gen 4 and I was curious on what your main differences were between that and this blade v9. Do you have a preference?
I'll do a more detailed review between the two in the next month or so.
How does this channel only have 9k is beyond me, i guess its only a matter of time
Haha thank you, hopefully it keeps building like this!
Hey Luca, great review, thank you.
SW to high for me, I'll keep my v8.
Question, what is your string set up?
I see you had the same string on v8 review.
Thank you! I usually default to Babolat RPM Rough 17 @ 53 pounds.
Need a Percept 97 vs Blade v9 video!
Another one?!?!
Is this a good racket to upgrade from Clash 100 v1? Or should I try Blade 100 v9?
Really, really great review! I could use a little help making a choice, please... Any thoughts on the Blade V9 16x19 vs the Head Speed MP 300g? Thanks!
Two great but very different rackets. The Speed is very user friendly and kind of has it all whereas the Blade is a true control racket that’s a little more tough to use but does also have great variety for how good its control is.
The new 2024 Dunlop CX 200 is going to give this v9 some serious competition. I've been testing it for the past couple weeks and it is a gem.
What do you make of the paint job? The orange and red together is like, na cmon
But more stiff so maybe more power but also more pain! How does it compare to the Head Speed 2024 16x19?
Better than most PJs, except for maybe the Blade v8, v9.@@InfinityProTeam
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the biggest change. The new bumper and grommet technology which allows you to snap in place the grommets much faster and can replace them a lot easier.
Nobody cares about that lol. Unless you are a stringer
I should have mentioned it, but didn't think that many people would care since it's more of a thing for the racket technicians.
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver i change my bumper/grommets pretty often so it matters to me, but i guess for average rec players, they don't worry about little stuff like that
Serve and backhand are top with the V8 but i cant play forehand. I hope the v9 fix that for me . Head prestige pro 16x19 is on sale with no review and i think and some junior serve 230km with that
What other reviewers out there hit as clean as this guy and are as eloquent? The answer is none, well done!
In terms of hitting probably me but my english and explanation is way worse than luca 😂luca can really make reviews entertaining
There's some other awesome reviewers too but thank you!
Can you compare the new blade v9 and the Gravity pro 2023?
Yes, that's something I would love to do.
Amazing review! I would like to ask which strings do you think will suit the Blade V9 the best? I am planning on buying one and I am confused on which string and tension I should use. Please provide some suggestions. Thank you!
I really like Head Lynx Tour in the Blade. Anywhere between 47-52 pounds should do the trick!
Such a great review!! Thinking of purchasing this. Anyone know the best strings to pair with it for an intermediate looking for control and no loss of power?
Go for a soft polyester! Something like RPM Soft or Luxilon Element.
I like the blade. Would be open to switching from my yonex v core pro 97 but QC!!
Like I said, QC should be better now so may no longer be an issue with Wilson rackets.
Great video … very thorough .. just bought one.. it’s very nice… you should lose the invisiline before filing these. :)
Thank you very much! No invisalign anymore - haven't had one since 2016 😅
can´t wait for the blade 100
Hey! epic review. what grip do you use on your rackets??
Thank you! Tourna Grip!
Hey man big thumbs up from me! Thinking about getting a more control racquet - looking at the v8 blade 16x19 cause I want more top spin and control. I have been using the pure drive 1-2 years I feel like I need more control.
Any suggestions for string type and tension? Thanks in advance!
I think a really spin friendly poly (something shaped or rough) goes really well with the Blade since it's so close to being elite for spin that kind of pushes it over the edge.
Please recommend Head Speed MP vs Blade 98 16x19 or the others for beginner(3month).
Want to have control, spin and lower stiffness. Thx for good videos! :)
Go for the Speed; it's much more forgiving.
Hi Luca, great review as always. I'm in the market for a new racquet and considering between the Blade v9 16x19 and the Shift 300. How would they compare? Thank you!
Thank you! They are two pretty different rackets; the only real similarity is their precise feel. The Shift has much more spin and power and the Blade more soft control.
Luka!! After blade 18x20 review, could you start reviewing strings?
Yes, string reviews are coming!
Now that so many 18 x 20 play like 16x19 I don't think I'll ever go back to an open pattern i play with huge topspin and I feel like my speedpro 18x20 is a magic wand
Thx for a brilliant review. Can I ask how this compares with pro staff 97v14 in terms of power, spin and forgiveness
Thank you! It has more of all of that than the Pro Staff - power is debatable but I think with them stiffening it up, it is a little higher.
Thx for your reply - just one more question, if you have to choose which do you prefer this or the pro staff 97v14?
Would you recommend putting some weight at 12 o’clock? I remember you suggested doing that in the V8 so I did and it felt great but how about for the v9?
Less so on this racket since the swing weight is already so much higher.
How would you compare to it ezone 98 2022?
Hi! So if it does come with a leather grip, we won’t be able to add more handle weight with a replacement leather grip yea?😅
It comes with a standard grip, I just added that afterwards.
I have been using the Blade 98 Amplifeel - so I hope this one feels good because Im looking to get a new racket
It will be different, for sure, but probably the least stark change of the last several generations.
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver it's one of the scariest parts of life 😆 Especially if your country doesn't have a lot of tennis places to try out demos. Basically a gamble!
I haven’t heard any other reviewer mentioning the occasionally inconsistent behaviour of V8 where ball could be lost on the stringbed and sail long (too much of a trampoline effect sometimes that reminded me of clash) while V9s string behaviour / response is way more consistent and solid on how it hugs and releases the ball. You are becoming GOAT reviewer. You and ACTennis! To me V9 is a better racquet than V8 even than if the feel is a little bit more muted. You also get a little bit more power and more torsional stability. V5 is still king in terms of connected feel…. and it was also arm friendly with tons of power….. those companies keep introducing technologies with no reason but for pure marketing differentiation. Nevertheless V9 is the best Blade since V6…. but to me they must return back to 65 flex. That’s why i am so interested this year to test those new Dunlop CXs. ❤
How does it compare to the Head Speed 2024 16x19?
@@SimurghMyTube I didn’t test new speed mp since it’s more muted than v1 auxetic and thicker compared to older speeds which i much prefer. Like the graphene xt sinner is using for example.
Thank you, again!
@@TheodorosKolokotronis799 Well I've opposite taste 😅 I like solid buttery feel and long plow thru.
Can you give a bit more of a direct comparison between the V7 and the V9? I'm considering making the switch
It's a lot less mushy than the v7 and has a stiffer feel without losing control/much comfort. I think it's a much better racket, but I was never a big fan of the v7 so I may not be the most objective person to ask.
Hello, nice video . What racket is more maneuverable blade v8 16x19 or v9 16x19? Many thanks
The v8 because it has a lower swing weight.
How does the new Blade compare to the Yonex Percept 100D? I'm currently split between the Blade 16/19 V8 and the Percept 100D, now I have to take the Blade V9 in consideration...
I haven't played with the 100D yet, unfortunately.
I am in the exact same split Wilson Blade V9 16x19 or Yonex Percept 100D
Luca for president!
🗳️🔜
Is that Beckett from Tenncom is some of your on court shots?
Yessir!
Every generation of the Blade, did you have the V6 non-CV? How does that roughly compare to the V9 for feel and playability?
I'll answer this in the Q&A.
Another nice review ! Where would it fit in your best 98 Sqin Raquet list?
Between A and S tier... not sure which yet.
Would you recommend the Blade or the Speed Pro for someone who is counterpunching/defensive playstyle and has a full swing on an intermediate lvl?
The Blade!
Any chance of the 18x20 review today before I hit order?! V8 18x20 player here, so tempted to switch to 16x19 based on what I'm hearing
Hahaha if it helps, I'm an 18x20 guy and still prefer the 18x20 but each generation seems to favour the 16x19 more and more.
Thanks! Ok im holding strong on the 18x20 this time around!
I just bought the Blade 100L 16X19 which I have not swung yet. The stiffness rating is 68 according to the internet, but that is not posted by Wilson in their published specs that I can find. I'm getting back into the game after 30 years. I played with flexible rackets which I loved for the spin. What I should play with now as a senior with a bad elbow is contradictory (of course). Stiff, light and loosely strung VS flexible and tightly strung. Any opinions?
I think you will be all good with the Blade 100L despite Wilson's stiffness claims. And just throw in, like you said, a soft string at a loose tension.
Is this racquet beginner friendly?
how would you rank this against a pure aero 98 and blade v9 18x20. Would these blades also be S tier?
I was going to ask the same question
Luca, what would you string the V9 16x19 with…? And tension..?
RPM Rough 17 @ 53 pounds... I love that string
I was going to ask your thoughts vs the 2024 Boom Pro
I'm guessing you saw the review now.
Could you give a review of the Blade 98 S? Difference comparing the Blade 16-19?
We don't carry it, unfortunately.
Hey, I'm keen to know your thoughts on how the 98 v9 compares to the Head Radical MP? Theyre very similar on paper, but are there any notable differences?
Yes, the Radical doesn't have a constant beam so the feel is a bit different and it's less traditionally controlled.
is it a good racket for beginner???
Hi Luca,
which do you prefer: Babolat Pure Strike 98 16x19 2024 or Wilson Blade V9 16x19? I hated the Blade V8. Was using the Aero 98 and recently switched to the Pure Strike 98 16x19 2024 with tungsten Tape 4 grams in the hoop. I found with the Aero that my shots were sometimes spraying over the court and with the Pure Strike I can hit any spot on the court.
I’m not sure which one I like better yet but the Strike will probably be better for you. The Blade still plays similarly enough to the previous one where you probably won’t like it.
I have the blade v7 16x19, is the strike 2024 16x19 easier to use or same? (assuming identical swing weight)@@RacketsRunnersVancouver
i tried my friends blade v7 98 (16 x 19) and i really enjoyed it, do you think i should by the V8 or the new V9?
Give both a shot if you can, the differences are subtle but definitely there and it will depend on which one's feel you prefer.
Outside of the string pattern how would you compare this racket to the Head Gravity (in terms of feel)?
The Gravity has a slightly more connected feel for the ball and I find it a bit more solid but here you get better variety and better spin.
Do you really think that it has better spin than other control rackets? I’m using a Yonex VcorePro 18x20 from 2019 and it has a remarkably surprising spin (I haven’t tried the Percept 18x20 yet but from what I understand the spin is not as good). I’ve played with the gen 8 Blade 16x19 and it wasn’t even close to my VcorePro’s spin potential. How much better spin does the new version have? I’m asking since my son uses the gen 8 version and he would benefit from a better spin. He refuses to even try other rackets than the Blade and is a die-hard fan of it.
He could get a bit more spin at of this one than the 8, but it's not a huge change. Compared to other control frames though, yes, there is noticeably more snapback especially when comparing it to an 18x20.
Hey Luca how do you compare it to Pure Aero 98 and the Ezone 98?
Two phenomenal rackets as well, the Pure Aero is a little more launchy and crisp and the Ezone more muted and controlled.
Well their not using the one your reviewing; will they release a proline version of this one?
The Blade Pro should be out already, yes.
Better connection between this and the Percept 97? And Power? Obviously the v9 is going to have more spin + bigger sweetspot.
Very good question, I would say the Percept 97, right now but I'd love to do a more thorough head to head in the future.
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver sure. I watched your last vid comparing the v8 with the P97 and remember that the Percept had better feel but had slightly lower power, spin, launch angle, stability, etc.
Hi Lucas ,
Is it worth the upgrade from the V8 that’s the question?
For me, yes! I love the better feel.
Yonex v core pro 97 user. Single handed backhand. Should I go for this? 16x19 or 18x20??
Try this or the Percept, but if you do switch, go for the 16x19.
Can you please review the Blade V9 100? Maybe also a comparison w the 98?
I'll try to get a review done when it comes in.
Which racquet do you recommend for an intermediate player with all around balance, bias towards control, arm friendly?
Blade 98 16x19 V9, Head Radical MP 2023, Pure Aero 98 2023, Head extreme tour, Yonex ozone 98
The Blade for sure!
Honestly, I never considered the blade a pure control racket because wilson always has the six one. I always saw it as a jack of all trades, but more on the control side. Like a radical maybe?
It has more control than the current Radicals, but I understand what you're saying. I do think the 18x20 is a pure control racket though; it has all the ingredients maybe with a sprinkle of jack of all trades in there as well.
If it's not the best 16 mains control racquet, which one(s) is(are)?
The Percept is the one that really sticks out to me.
While v8 Blade is anemic compared to Blade Pro, how is your take in v9 Blade vs Blade Pro? Is it more comparable now or the BP still the more superior racket for those who can swing it?
I've never played with a Blade Pro or H22 unfortunately. I'm trying to get my hands on one but what I would expect is a much more difficult frame that may be more rewarding but much less appropriate for the general public.
did they increase the beam width thickness? I thought it was closer to 21mm historically?
Was thinking the same. If its 22m wilson should just make it like the h22 mold.
No I got that wrong, it's still the same 21mm thickness.
You said that it should be strung with poly. But what about hybrid like Lynx Tour + Velocity MLT? Do you lose the Blade feel with this combo?
Personally, I do think so because I think the Blade is made for full poly at this point, but if you have good history with poly/multi hybrid it will be totally fine.
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver Thanks for the reply/advice 👍🙂
60 RA is kind of low, Dunlop brought their new CX Tours up to 65 RA, maybe compare the new CX Tour from Dunlop? I have the 2021 CX Tour 16x19 and it’s softer than the V8 blade, better feel on the elbow.
I'm not sure we're bringing in the new Dunlop sticks 😭
Strange: no mentioning of how it compares to 18/20. Also some notes on how it compares to ProStaff X would be much appreciated by many.
It's a very different racket to the Pro Staff X so kind of hard to compare the two IMO. The 18x20 review will be coming soon!
