Totally get the point, but it was funny because it seemed like sarcastic ski tuition. In seriousness, I think doing this is a good step to reaching confidence on skis; a beginner will take a while to be able to totally relax while skiing, and survive a week of skiing. This could be the first stage of intermediate skiing, where the beginner skier can now *choose* how much effort to put into their skiing, rather than being exhausted ploughing the green runs! Some relaxing is key at every level of skiing after all.
Priceless! Well done with great humor. We were in hysterics watching this and kept wondering how you managed to keep a straight face. Based on the many positive reactions to your humor and demonstrations, I think more content like this would be fun to watch.
I think I figured out the most energy-efficient ski activity from these pointers. You sit down on a bench and eat sandwiches. The skis are flat on the snow, you are not gaining speed, the legs, back, and arms are not in tension. Perfect!
I tried this technique skiing with my friends this week, and they were all very impressed. Unfortunately, I only completed one run per day, so they all skied on without me. But still, excellent lesson - Thanks!

I realized that skiing so many days was counter productive. The last two years 60 days was the target. I injected more days off and skied better with little issues at night. I tried for breaks of 1-3 days to get a good recovery so I could stay aggressive, eliminate small mistakes. That worked in a very nice way. Last year I skied 62 days and this year 70. It is hard to stay home on a great surface days. Next year I’ll try for 55-60 and that should work very well. My daily ski is an FIS Volkl slalom. I have less stiff slightly longer and wider underfoot skis r14-r16 for days when I’m degraded. My Tigers are mushed out now so like a beer league slalom. I picked up Atomic FIS slalom skis near the end of this season for when I’m peaked and can ski hard. Love it! Just spent a week in Engelberg with Dan Egan and Marcus Caston getting coached to do exactly the same thing, except the part about skiing green runs of course. Their point - if you're going to be skiing 4000 ft, 6000 ft off-piste verticals, you better be skiing efficiently. As you are saying, stay tall. Don't edge so much; drift. Add fat skis for wider base. Still, they definitely were not skiing slowly as a result. They bombed down the mountain. Super happy and tickled that you did this video and are taking the time to teach this stuff. I know it's not your thing, but would still love to see a progression showing where this can go.

Rick, first off I would like to point out that you have no idea what or how I teach in lessons based on all the varying students I have. We have never met in person and you have never been to a training session with me, so assuming I do not "understand" is quite absurd. Second, you missed the point of this. It is a parody towards people who claim that skiing with world cup technique and improving your world cup moves will maximise efficiency (we both know who I am referring to I am sure). This level displayed in this video is actually the epitome of efficient muscle sparing technique and not using world cup "moves". I am quite aware when and where I would be teaching variations of what is displayed in this video for students who need it. I teach whatever is beneficial to the student according to their ability, age, fitness level etc, not a specific "method" or "move" or "technique". Whatever is necessary for that individual.
@@ReillyMcGlashan , don't take offense. While I may have misinterpreted your intent, the fact remains this video leaves a topic very worthy of discussion not seriously addressed. Skiers come in all ages and health, and techniques that provide energy efficiency and movement conservation that can be used all over the mountain receive very little focus on RUclips. Perhaps it's a ball you might want to pick up and run with. If you don't, I just may grab it and do it myself, after all, I'm fast approaching the demographic. Even our buddy is using a lot more steering and less angles lately, you've probably noticed. It's a boat the best of em eventually end up in, to some degree. In fact, if you'd like to work in collaboration on this project, let me know.
Excellent. Funny thing is, although I guess the intention is a p - - s take, this is actually the first step of a very simple progression which can completely transform the way people move, on and off skis. (French based uk ski teacher Phil Smith said that what he learned from me during a few hours of treatment completely changed everything he'd learned about movement from ski teaching every day for 25-years). Everything you say is completely correct and really funny but - with the benefit of 22-yrs working as a physical therapist, flexibility expert and body alignment specialist - completely wrong, which only makes it even more funny because it's so nearly right!
Even though this is a parody, in reality I have no problem with people skiing like this or wanting to ski like this. It just depends on the skiers goal really, anything to get the people on the hill enjoying the sun, snow and mountains. If this is what it takes! Horses for courses!
@@ReillyMcGlashan well that's really disappointing! @@martinjefferies666 What are you disappointed in? The fact that I am OK with people enjoying the mountains skiing like this if that is what they choose to do by their own personal choice? If they come to a lesson that is a different story, I will teach them based on their needs and goals but I am not upset about people that ski this way. Not sure why you are disappointed ?
@@ReillyMcGlashan Dude, no one enjoys skiing like that, no one. Plenty of people do it, and pretend to be ok with it because they all think they're stuck with it, same as most people think they're stuck with not being able to touch their toes, having one leg longer than the other and all that nonsense which you can often change in a few minutes. I was kind of hinting that there's a very simple way of taking said cardboard cut-out person and enabling them to move in a way that actually allows them to look, move and feel like a real skier without fighting for breath or ripping their own legs off. So, not sure if I was more disappointed that you're ok with coaching people to look like robots or that you weren't interested enough to ask a question. Anyway, it's your channel so shame on me for suggesting there might be anything I could throw at you to help. I''ve only transformed the physical lives of about 2,000 people so far so what do I know. And stay in the cafe if it's cold outside. Lol. What a lot of people have watched this. It's out of curiosity. But I know if you ski one holiday a year you want to have an easy first day. But be fit for skiing and eat protein and fat not sugar. You have more energy.
I can go one better: we have a guy at my home Mt. that makes 1-3 "kinda" turns at the top of the run and then goes straight down the hill from there. No joke-he got 40 runs in today. No youngster either. But he skis with his arms out like "Big Bird" I'll have to get him to work on that!🤣🤣🤣
Can’t agree with your advice to hang on *either* the front or the back of the boot. Should always be the back. If some shit goes down and you’re hanging on the front, you’re going to be right there and might need to sort it out, which takes energy. But if you hang on the back there’s a good chance the shit will have sorted itself out by the time you arrive, so you can just keep cruising.

(I know, but I'm getting a bit old and a bit lazy now!) Have a great season
... ... ... ... before reading the description I was yelling at my screen ... ...
You do know this is how 80-95% of resort people on sticks actually ski, right?
DON'T ENCOURAGE THEM !!!
🤣
I Just stand straight Up and Go straight Downhill until i have a Speed that i get afraid, then i Break and start again 🤪
Hi,
nice music you have on your videos, must be throwback to "Wizzards of Aaaaaaah" ? :D
i love the synthwave era!
Somewhat bizzare....Love you guys at Projected Productions, but wondering who the audience is? Let's ski with as little skiing as possible. Lastly, this is the only instance I see you stemming/stepping in your demo turns early in the vid 😉 This would be a good April 1st release. Nonetheless, keep up the great work. You guys inspire me more then our USA PSIA colleagues.
This is just a little parody! 😁
And stay in the cafe if it's cold outside. Lol. What a lot of people have watched this. It's out of curiosity. But I know if you ski one holiday a year you want to have an easy first day. But be fit for skiing and eat protein and fat not sugar. You have more energy.
I’m shocked at your omission of a key element ….💨 😉
I thought u were serious 🤣
🤣
Mate, i just watch your videos and imagine it's me. No effort at all!!!🤣🤣
🤣
I can go one better: we have a guy at my home Mt. that makes 1-3 "kinda" turns at the top of the run and then goes straight down the hill from there. No joke-he got 40 runs in today. No youngster either. But he skis with his arms out like "Big Bird" I'll have to get him to work on that!🤣🤣🤣
🤣
i love you
🤔🤣
This is hilarious 😂
But sad because there are people that actually ski like this!
I was watching a whole bunch of them last weekend as my thighs were burning at the end of the day. Slip sliding away
🍺Skiing is skiing.🍺
yes, each to their own... as long as you enjoy it, do it how you want!
Can’t agree with your advice to hang on *either* the front or the back of the boot. Should always be the back. If some shit goes down and you’re hanging on the front, you’re going to be right there and might need to sort it out, which takes energy. But if you hang on the back there’s a good chance the shit will have sorted itself out by the time you arrive, so you can just keep cruising.
if it's smooth and consistent then the front is ok... Every other time relax on the back! 🤣
You stole all JB91710’s ideas!
shhhh 🤫
🤣
With all respect, really, are you sure... :)
3:29😂😂😂😂😂😂
When I’m to tired to bend my knees I will quit skiing.
There will be people who think this is serious 😀
I was in hysterics thinking he was serious till the end. I also spent last weekend watching a lot of skiers doing the exact same thing on their big fat floppies. Slip sliding all day
… and add backpack with integrated battery powered massage, instead of ABS 🤣😂😂😂
That’s the next step😅
when you need to save energy this way..that means it's time to go home....but anyway good suggestion
Bovine scatology
sounds like a pile of crap to me.
The weather outside is weather…
those who know, know 😜
At first I thought he was serious, ha! I was going to suggest just stay in bed.
seriously energy efficient! 🤣
You know that now you are out of the "pmts vip club? don't you ?
🤣 I wasn't aware I was part of it to begin with
@@ReillyMcGlashan Long time ago after skiing together with H H , he wrote that you were one of the best free skiers in the world ....but now ...after this ....😱
tsk tsk ... not enough smiling during the demos. 😂
the smile only comes out when I reach a certain speed! 🤣
This looks like a tutorial more or less how to ski only if it's necessary. Otherwise don't ski at all. 😉
How my parents ski these days.
as long as they are out enjoying the mountains and fresh air!
🤣
haha ... "don't ski any steep runs whatsoever".
🤣
I bet this hurt your soul to make. Even if it is satire
