Hey Matthew and thanks for reminding me of Don Ellis and his unique approach to jazz. You provoked me to take out "Shock Treatment" and "Electric Bath" both on the Columbia label and give them a listen. I haven't done so in 40+ years, and it was both fun and enlightening. Good stuff!

Mathew, another excellent segment. I purchased 2 copies of this Don Ellis recording last year. Both copies proved to be defective. The pressings for both were terrible and I returned both and tossed in the towel. So disappointing because the music, arrangements and performances are wonderful. But, after seeing your video and you didn't indicate any pressing problems, I decided to try a third time and ordered another copy. Fingers are crossed. However, I have had a lot of pressing and defect issues with several of these new Candid releases since last year.

I hope you get a good one this time. Mine was a good pressing. I had one small pop and another minor crackle but nothing major. I agree. The Candid pressings have not been stellar. Let me know how you fare when it comes.

It should arrive in a few days. Sure thing. I'll let you know if the 3rd copy is a keeper!

Mathew, you are not going to believe this, Strike 3. Yes, the 3rd copy is defective! To start, Amazon threw the LP loosely inside of a large box without packing material. Of course, the jacket was badly damaged and bent all over. As for the record itself, a chunk of the lead-in groove is broken off and missing. Thank goodness I noticed it, as it could have ripped the stylist from the cartridge if played. I have requested yet a 4th copy, which is expected to arrive this coming Monday. We shall see. But, should the 4th arrive defective, I'm done.

@@TonyHarrison-dk1ey wow that is crazy! Three bad copies. I must have hit a good one out of the batch. As far as packing goes we know Amazon is a crapshoot. I hope #4 works out. If not I guess it’s not meant to be!

I think Don Ellis was the backup artist that Charles Mingus got in a fist fight with
