  • Go North East 6044 Volvo B9TL Wright Gemini 2 NK12 GCU is seen here unusally operating X10 service between Middlesbrough Bus Station and Eldon Square Bus Station, Newcastle in place of a 67 REG Volvo B5TL Wright Gemini 3.
Go North East Purchased 7 Brand New Volvo B5TL Wright Gemini 3s for service X9 & X10 in September 2017, this was to replace the 12Reg Volvo Wright Gemini 2s which were starting to make the service unreliable. Service X9 and service X10 spend a lot of time going flat out down the A19, for example service X9 spends 25Miles down the A19, and Service X10 spends 30 Miles down the A19. The new Volvo B5TL's are fitted with Volvo's 5.1 Litre Engine which is far too small for this kind of route, as of which they are spending a lot of Time at Volvo for repairs and therefore the 12 Reg Volvo B9TLs are still frequently alloacted.
Goes flat out down the A19 from 7:05 - 14:23.

These should never have been repaced by the Gemimi 3s. They should have rebranded them with the new livery and gave them better maintenance. Using a B5TL with a D5K on the A19 is asking for problems. The D9B that these have can handle it easily if well looked after. Coastliner managed Leeds to Whitby with these beasts. It's a shame.

Tyrers manages with 2011 B9TLs doing daily motorway services with remapped gear boxes

Already the B5TLs are starting to show their reliability which turns out to be crap.
They've only been in service for 6 months or September.
When I'm on them they work like a dream or no ones business.

Intercity Express They are nice buses to travel on, and have plenty of punch for a 5Litre Engine, they just aren't designed for this type off route.

How fast was this doing as I’ve heard Gemini’s do up to 60mph

No idea why GNE use them after all the trouble with the Castles ones, surely Enviro 400s would be better? Never see them on high speed route

Jason Darby They would be even worst, the ones which are for use on Norwich to Peterborough X1 are always off road, high power for E40Ds doesn't go very well, modified B9s like the Ex Greenline 702 B9s is what I'd suggest X10/X9 uses - cope very well at high power or better off, coaches.

Jason Darby the New Enviro 400 MMC's only have a 6.7Litre Cummins Engine which although is bigger its still not big enough for the likes of this route. The only other option I would of suggested is trialling out the Scania MMC 400s as they have a 9Litre Scania engine.
