My dad just left Go North East, he was a driver for them for just over 33 years, he's seen so many changes over the years but unfortunately left just before these buses came around.
Nice to see the new technology. I’m from Vancouver where trolley buses have whirred around town for decades. They plug in to hydro dams so their carbon footprint is approximately zero. Yes, the overhead wires are a pain, but the newer trolleys can go several kilometers on their internal batteries.
Yes, I don't know why more trolley buses haven't come back, they used to be very popular in the 60s and 70s in the UK. I think for certain routes (eg, arterial metro routes in city centres) they'd be perfect.
we got electric buses in Bergen, Norway little over half a year ago and now we have trolley buses with batteries that charge when driving on wire but they can drive off-wire too, for some considerable distance i might add. They're so quiet and so comfy to ride in, no gear changes and they don't struggle in uphill driving since electric motors have such awesome torque curve. All the buses on my usual line are electric now and i definitely noticed the gear shifts more when i recently had to ride in a gas bus. This is the future and it's really neat.
When I was working in Arnhem (Netherlands) I've been taking electric buses for many years - trolleybuses that is. There is no diesel smell and engine noise, just the hum from the electric motors, wind and tyre noise. Very comfortable and indeed friendly for cyclists behind a bus :)

In Aarhus Denmark, they use Volvo electric busses, which are charged when they are on breaks, through the roof of the bus, like a train when it connects to power. That seems like a better solution ?

Great video. It reminded me of the last time I visited the open day of my local operator, Reading Buses. A similar modern depot, lots of different coloured route branded buses, some seriously green buses (albeit bio-gas rather than electric), a ride through the bus wash, and blow me down if that is not Martijn Gilbert. Before he stepped up to Go North-East, Martijn was MD of Reading Buses, and that was his last Reading Buses open day too. Good to see he is keeping up the good work there. It's kind of strange that everybody in the UK hates the public transport system but this channel is permanently positive about every company involved in it and also has great access.
Recently got electric buses from volvo in my city and I gotta say they're great. The system they use is sorta like a pantograph that comes down from a pole and charges the bus, probably a fair bit faster than the traditional cable charger.
Excellent! Positive report gives hope, Geoff! From now on buses can be good, clean and fun! There are no new diesel buses here at the other end of Hadrian's Wall. I will be pleased when the services are full again and are fully electrified!
Very good, Geoff. I'd love to see coverage of some of London's electric vehicles, or buses in General, as London obviously has one of the most widespread networks in the country, So to see the inner workings of the system would be good. The services 507 and 521 are particularly intriguing.
I did two weeks work experience in the Worthing bus depot back in 2019. Was quite the learning opportunity, and possibly vital if I want to get into the railway career I want now. However, I think I spent most of my time just washing the buses with the two Dave's. Ah well.
I'm a bit long in the tooth now, but as a young child in the early 60s I can remember wafting around Newcastle in silent, clean electric buses - trolley buses!
As a bus mechanic this is exciting. No more oil changes, air filters... My fleet is all CNG and will be for a while but hopefully we get these eventually
Now that's nice to see. It definitely seems like Yutong is becoming a fast leader in Electric buses, and certainly the most dependable electric bus manufacturer in China. Over here in Denmark where I'm from the slightly larger E12 model has quickly become the best selling electric bus in the country, with the model now accounting for more than 60% of all electric buses in the country so far.
Very well explained right from customer perspective, technology break through to operations ease. A very good video on E buses to be watched by all keen to enter this industry. 👍👏👌

Being part of the Go north East Team I have driven these buses on several occasions and cannot believe how smooth, quiet and comfortable they are. Hopefully technology will allow the future ZERO emission buses to be used on all routes at Go North East both local and distant.
Top lads and lasses over at GNE. Game changing stuff happening up north.
Very proud to have these in Newcastle! 😁
They look great. I look forward to the day when my local bus companies start to "go electric".
Another superb video !
It's kind of strange that everybody in the UK hates the public transport system but this channel is permanently positive about every company involved in it and also has great access.
martin is a lovely guy, met him once at reading buses, when we transferred some gas buses from norwich to plymouth
These buses look quite impressive. They remind me of the electric buses that my city has.
Recently got electric buses from volvo in my city and I gotta say they're great. The system they use is sorta like a pantograph that comes down from a pole and charges the bus, probably a fair bit faster than the traditional cable charger.
Awesome content as always keep up the good work
Excellent! Positive report gives hope, Geoff! From now on buses can be good, clean and fun! There are no new diesel buses here at the other end of Hadrian's Wall. I will be pleased when the services are full again and are fully electrified!
These buses look really good. Well done Newcastle 🚃
Nice. The Singapore counterpart of Go-Ahead has Yutong E12, single decker and double decker. Cool to see Yutongs in UK!
bright sparks abound.
Awesome as ever Geoff. Love doing other modes of transport.
Thank you Geoff, (and Go Ahead).
Very good, Geoff. I'd love to see coverage of some of London's electric vehicles, or buses in General, as London obviously has one of the most widespread networks in the country, So to see the inner workings of the system would be good. The services 507 and 521 are particularly intriguing.
Just awesome Geoff with new electric buses at the great city of Newcastle.
I'll have to take one of these when I'm next in Newcastle. I took a trip through the bus wash at Stockwell Bus Station on an open day.
I did two weeks work experience in the Worthing bus depot back in 2019. Was quite the learning opportunity, and possibly vital if I want to get into the railway career I want now.
However, I think I spent most of my time just washing the buses with the two Dave's. Ah well.
Seeing more of these around, York has some on Park and Ride and Newport has a pile of them. It's a really positive step forward.
Always nice to see some happy bus drivers!! I used to be one, as you know..
I'm a bit long in the tooth now, but as a young child in the early 60s I can remember wafting around Newcastle in silent, clean electric buses - trolley buses!
Me, too, but in London.
They've brought these in in Newport (SW) as well. I really like them.
Really great insight into the new fleet!
As a bus mechanic this is exciting. No more oil changes, air filters... My fleet is all CNG and will be for a while but hopefully we get these eventually
Can confirm: driving through the bus wash is really fun especially if you leave the drivers window open
"I got wet from the bush wash" 😂 those pesky bush washes! 8:27
Very well explained right from customer perspective, technology break through to operations ease. A very good video on E buses to be watched by all keen to enter this industry. 👍👏👌
Love Newcastle. Used to catch the 38 between Cradlewell and Market St when I was working at Northern Electric!
Brilliant. I notice they are using the DC Quick charge.
Can't wait to go on this bus
brilliant hopefully i can get myself up to Newcastle next year and see them in service
