- Caught a total of 7 species at this spillway! Crappie, Largemouth Bass, Channel Catfish, Smallmouth Buffalo, White Sucker, Freshwater Drum, Bluegill
This is located on the west side of Grand Lake St. Marys near Celina, Ohio.
I had only fished this spillway one other time with my brother a few weeks before this video and we caught a lot of drum and carp then. I wanted to try for some other species this time, especially walleye, and caught a few new ones but no walleye :( But this trip was still a lot of fun and I loved using an ultra-light rod for the first time.
My GoPro was acting up during this video so it did miss a couple fish.

I have a vastly different attitude about carp. When I was young we had a great spot to catch carp. It was a grain loading facility.
Carp might be bony but to me they were tasty.
If you are doing catch and release a fish that puts up a good fight is preferred over one that comes to the top and skates across the surface.
Also carp are way more fun to catch than drum
Well you know what man I live in st marys next to the lake🎉🎉🎉
Just found you! I grew up in the area. I keep checking fishing reports and heard about the algae problem. Planning a trip out to see the old sights and hopefully catch some fish. Glad to see this!
Sorry for just getting back with you life’s been crazy.. but yes, St. Mary’s is known to have a huge algae problem over the last 5-10 years that apparently makes the water toxic. But I know some people that still eat the fish out of there and have never gotten sick... but for me, it’s catch and release only lol
I live on this lake, and a lot of people who catch the carp often times kill them and leave them lay on the rocks.
Im your 100th sub. Grat video. Southern ohio fisherman here
Love that place. Great fishing in this area. Caught a 14 inches crappy Grand Lake St. Mery.
I heard the crappie fishing has been great up there but I haven't been there in a while.. I moved slightly further away so it's a longer drive
Great video man! That actually looks like a good place to fish. Keep on doing your thing!
Great video its been a few years since ive fished Celina i may hit it up this spring
That spillway is awesome! New sub,I wish I knew where it was 😉 great video 👍
West end of the lake near celina
Cool video! I used to fish GLSM a lot, had a lot of good times over there! Been trying to make it back and fish the spillway in the spring when the water is really coming over the dam.
Great video, shout out from West Virginia!
I enjoyed the video!
Nice video man! Wish we had spillways like this around me. Almost all saltwater here!
i live here, great place to fish
it would be cool if i saw you some time
One like for you Ohio Fish Guy!

@@OhioFishGuy1 you're very welcome have you ever heard of a app called fish brain it's a fishing app where you can look up great fishing spots to talk to other anglers
@@OhioFishGuy1 okay I'll get on that I kind of wish I had a girlfriend to enjoy some fishing with me
Anyplaces you know of around central ohio for striper/crappie?
The spillway is loaded you just have to be careful because there are some 16lb car and drum in there. People do just leave fish on the bank to die
Have you ever fished Indian Lake for crappie? If so where is the best spot?
I live in celina,Montezuma and the water is pretty bad here just saying 😬
Dont diss carp man. Good eating.
Cool video👍🏻👍🏻
I live like 30mins south of this lake. Algea is still a problem. Catch yellow belly cats all day long up there.
I live about 30 minutes away as well! I’ve only fished the spillway but I’d like to explore other areas of the lake this year. But yeah the algae is disgusting lol
Im from piqua/troy area. Ever wana do some catfishin hmu
that is some strange looking water, do you eat the fish from Grand Lake St Marys, we were at this same spot early one morning and my buddy caught a real nice walleye...it was winter, snow on the ground.
Fish are fine to eat and water don't look any different than it has my whole life.
Ecoli levels go up in summer time due to lack of circulation
New sub, great video
Nice job dude
@@OhioFishGuy1 thanks man. I don't post alot. Mostly just Google photo compilations haha
Awesome video man! fellow Ohio RUclipsr and angler. Ill trade subs with ya!

@@OhioFishGuy1 oops😉
Nice video
Is this spot easy to get to? I live an hour or so away
Yes it’s pretty easy to get to. Just down a hill. There’s available parking on both sides.
You get up north at all ? I've got some good spots
@@OhioFishGuy1 seneca county here great video👍
Hey man, your carp/white sucker? Pointed tips on the tail, mouth set back from a pointed nose, and scale pattern/overall look, points more towards something called a carpsucker (probably a river carpsucker). They're native to the US, members of the sucker family, and not that common to catch.
Your carp/smallmouth buffalo, is a bigmouth buffalo- smallmouth and black buffalo have mouths on the bottom of their head, not the front. Also native, also member of the sucker family.
And suckers and buffalo are not carp (which are in the minnow family). They're great to eat if you scale & score the fillets, then fry in a cornmeal breading. Here's a good tutorial from Canadian Sportfishing host Italo Labignan- ruclips.net/video/WZz54y-VOHM/видео.html
How you gone say you caught a bass off camera then say the little crappie was the first fish of the day
I went fishing that morning after working 12 hours on 3rd shift... I wasn’t fully awake 😂
How do you not know what kind of fish you are catching?
First fish was a quillback, a native species not a carp, and other species you called carp was bigmouth buffalo, another native species. Fyi to all fishermen carp and suckers are different groups, suckers are beneficial and native to North America, Carp are usually destructive and are not native species. Learn about the quarry you chase, it never hurts to know more about the sport you are taking part in. Not directed entirely at the maker of the video most of the people I meet have no idea the difference, that's a problem when they are killing native species thinking they don't belong.
Thanks! I had no idea but I’ve now learned of some of the differences. I don’t kill any fish in Ohio I just like catching them
Dude! If your a fisherman then act like one. Stop complaining about carp’s and how nasty they are. Fishermen don’t complain when they catch carp cause as long as you catch something at least something is better then nothing dude.
Okay thank you for your response. Ohio fish guy
Hundreds of POOP SHARKS out there
@@OhioFishGuy1 Exactly what it means lol
I thought the idea of fishing was to have fun. Caught 100’s of carp in my life along with dozens of varieties of fresh and saltwater fish.Don’t understand why catching or touching a carp is so horrible. You said they were fun to catch. The lakes has had algae issues for 20 years, wouldn’t eat out of this lake on a regular basis anyway. Back in the turn of the 20 century this lake produce monster crappie. Been all down hill thanks to the farmers and homeowners. Millions and millions spent by the state and still not close to being fixed.
