I spent 100+ hours in Crosscode back in 2022 and I'm planning to come back to finish last 5 achievement and complete the dlc for it. The game is incredible
I remember playing it on my PC but did not complete it, I then moved to a laptop and my pc is so old that its dead😢 I want to play again but man dont wanna grind again
What I truly love about pixel art games is that they sometimes make it beautifully amazing yet simple to understand and support low-tech PCs like I do. I also want to include some of my personal favorite pixel art. 1. Yes, your grace 2. Skul the hero slayer 3.Tiny folks 4.Ghostlords 5. They don't sleep. 6.Kingdom Two crowns 7. Night Club Showdown 8. 20 minutes till dawn 9.Disfigure (oops wrong one) 10.Arco 11. Don't escape series games. Those games have their own unique mechanic gameplay, and I truly love a developer who makes something new then brings pixel art to them. I am happy that pixel art exists and still lives to this day.
I'd like to add The Messenger, not only because of its gorgeous art style and amazing gameplay, but also because it can be a good introduction to the metroidvania genre (and less overwhelming than blasphemous).
It was fine fro me, just going back and forth to get to the start of the actual linear level. And it feels good cuz the movement is actually incredible@@Allen-jj7vv
I know I have this channel to thank for a big chunk of both my library of games & wish lists. There's usually at least one game showcased in these videos that grabs my attention. More often then not there's several.
I have enjoyed many of these games & many others. Yet there is a seemingly endless supply of many more i have yet to play. I honestly don't think i have enough years remaining in my life to play & enjoy every game I've seen that I want to enjoy. That to me is a true tragedy of life.
Wondering Sword is by far one of the best game I ever played. I place it at the top with the likes of Xenoblades and such. It has an really good story, great characters and character developpment, the battles are amazing, the wuxia theme and features are awesome, and They keep adding stuff always. More content is coming soon for free. I recommend this game to anyone who likes rpgs.
Dude is like the Terminator, except he isn't a robot sent from the future to kill people but just a dude from the present trying to spread the word about cool indie games.
Rather than the 25 *best* pixel art games, since most of these are well-known and most of them I've played or considered playing, what I'd be more interested in is the NEXT 25 best pixel art games. Which I guess is a fancy way of saying make a second video, but I legit think the choices on the second video would be more meaningful to me, someone who has watched the indie scene for a while and might not think to try some of them without a nudge.
Just comes to show how many good pixel art games there are since Sea of Stars or the Messenger weren't meantioned, but still overall a nice reminder of games available that people might have forgotten about. Playing through Chained Echoes myself currently and can see why some people dislike parts of it given how streamlined it is with forced story progression, but that said there is a lot do, a lot to collect and a lot you can do to power up your units.
+1 for Sea of Stars. I don't know if they are top25 but would also add EastWard, Star Renegades, Time Break Chronicles, Astral Ascent, Hyper Light Drifter, Octopath Traveler 1/2, Unsighted, Dave the Diver, Chrono Trigger
I think we will have next announcements this or next year: Final Fantasy Tactics Remastered Xenogears Remastered Parasite Eve Remastered Final Fantasy IX Remake
Undertale being rated this high is very surprising Now that I'm out of the fandom, it's arguably the one game I would rate very low in terms of gameplay and pixel art, only redeeming factor is the experience is pretty solid Undertale as a game is a very barebones game with the bullet hell sections being the most interesting part
This list is almost disturbingly accurate in picking games that are both good and also less known. With that said.....there were a few even I had to look up in the nintendo eshop. Oh boy....just typing in the word "Touhou" as short for "Touhou Luna Nights" gave me a ton of different games with that name in it and a rabbit hole! The even bigger rabbit hole was when I decided to click on "PLAYISM" to see what other games they were involved in....oh boy!!! I am not sure if I found good games, bad games or some kind of Frankenstein experiment of games varying in quality, budget and possibly straight up shovelware. Interesting stuff no less. Reminded me of the Nintendo DS days when indie games were a much more mixed bag in the shop and many seemed to be in their infancy. Anyways.....very nice list!
I've been playing CrossCode these days and i'm loving it so much! although the gameplay is different, it reminds me of ragnarok online for some reason 😂. Love pixel art
I thought there would be Sea of Stars in the list. But yeah, there are too many good pixel art games. And there is Chained Echoes already (pixel art jRPG).
Thanks for reminding me, i still have to deal with Chained Heroes, Katana Zero, Hotline Miami, CrossCode. I need finally beat it. Also i don't get it as someone who played Shovel Knight Treasure Trove, why release remaster of first game, when you have complete edition?
Kinda fitting, I just finished Chained Echos but to be Honest I fell like the "scaling" on normal is messed up had to put it on easy to finish the game otherwise I would have been stuck on normal mobs in the endgame.
Looking for help: does anyone know the name of an upcoming indie pixel art title: it's a sidescrolling 2D run-n-gun that I believe is female-only (may even have "girl" in the title?) & if I remember correctly, you carry a sniper rifle with laser sight. I feel like it's almost as if Eri or Fio from Metal Slug got their own game, but all sprites are much bigger. Anime-vibe to it. I also feel like it was covered semi-recently, but can't find the video anywhere... :( Thanks!
@@StonyTable Thanks for the suggestion! Sadly, not the one... The one I'm thinking about is decidedly more cartoony/anime-esque in its presentation. Large sprites, animated really well, almost like jointed papercraft figures? (Still in pixel art, though...)
I recently played a game similar to “jump king” that I can’t remember the name of. I remember you start in a pit, and have to jump through a small opening at the top, and you keep going higher with upgrades purchasable on the way. It was pixel art similar to celest, and everything had a yellowish tint (I think)… anyone know what it is?
Not sure how far you got but 1 may be worth another look. I remember not getting it even into the early mid-game, and dropping it. Coming back a few months later, though and pushing just a little more, I found it revealed itself to me, slowly, over the course of a couple of hours. And then I was deeply satisfied. Great atmosphere, great art-style and very, very good exploration and combat.
... I got enter the gungeon for free a few yrs back. I tried it a few times and could not get into it. This was before I understood what a rogue like/lite is. I since have learned i do not like that genre at all. As soon as I hear it, I stop paying attention ...

@@AlmostADetective there's not much grind tho, i remember just exploring everything and that was enough, chests specifically
Can't wait to play Project Terra, the new game make by CrossCode dev team.
@@Allen-jj7vv whoa fr?? Now im excited
@@AlmostADetective Clement literally told about it in the video

Ghostlords! Now that a title I have not heard of in a while. Tiny folks is a good shoutout as well
I'd like to add The Messenger, not only because of its gorgeous art style and amazing gameplay, but also because it can be a good introduction to the metroidvania genre (and less overwhelming than blasphemous).
The Messenger is a good platformer but not a good metroidvania. The second part of this game is so sloppy😅

What a beautiful channel. I don't have to search for indie games for hours.
I know I have this channel to thank for a big chunk of both my library of games & wish lists. There's usually at least one game showcased in these videos that grabs my attention. More often then not there's several.
That’s the idea!
Rare for me to see a Top 25 list and just nod my head the whole video, the whole line up is truly some top tier shit
Nice
can you please create a video of indie games , by genre? like all tactics / all turnbased rpg / side scrolling etc. etc.
Did you see his playlists?
oh dumb me , thx for the heads up. i'll check it out.
He did this, but usually roguelites.
Yes. Updated lists are in the works
Very great list ! I'm glad to see some of my favorites games in it. Especially Rain World, what an underrated game !
Good!
Amazing video as always mate. Such a great theme that is pixel art games ❤️
Love it!
I love pixel art games a lot. Grew up with them so they give me warm fuzzies haha.
Same

we love open-world using this pixel art style
Wandering sword looks so fantastic. Of course chained echoes, undertale, and cross code are ultra strong indie games!
Yeah
Man, I'd love to see a Katana Zero sequel, or any game with the same beautiful art style.
Think they are still working on a dlc

All these along videos are taking a toll lol
This was a great list. 👍
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
CrossCode and Rain World are masterpieces, though the latter is incredibly difficult.

Noted. I think the next 25 will still be some of the more popular titles, the 25 after that is where things start to get interesting
Just comes to show how many good pixel art games there are since Sea of Stars or the Messenger weren't meantioned, but still overall a nice reminder of games available that people might have forgotten about.

Prodigal is also a super awesome pixel art game.
I didn't know about wandering sword, thank you
Just got an update!
Celeste is the most beautiful pixel art game i ever played
Interesting
@ClemmyGames it's mostly because of the lighting, it's super well done

Less known? Some of these are all time greats, but yes, PLAYISM has a very interesting catalogue
Im happy i finished shovel knight , hollow knight , blasphemous 1 and guacameele 1 . Beside metroid and castlevania they are really big numbers .
Nice
I'm so bad at noita. I wish i was better because it looks like fun watching his players play it.
You're the goat for this video.

I can see it! Love RO
eastward and omori are also a really good additions to this list.
Omori? Really
You also must play _The Last Faith._
9:24 Wario + Sonic
Mm
Owlboy is fantastic too.
Pretty game
I thought there would be Sea of Stars in the list.
But yeah, there are too many good pixel art games.
And there is Chained Echoes already (pixel art jRPG).
Most of the games in this video are classic pixel art games. Sea of Star is good but it's just not on the same level.
+ ZeroRanger and Void Stranger
Mmhmm
I got hyped then realized i have 95% of these already lmao
One of my faourite is Songbringer from Wizard Fu Games 👌
No Sanabi is CRAZY
I would also add sea of stars and phoenotopia
Wandering sword is top tier

Astalon, Dave The Diver, Eastward?
Good games. Dave is not quite indie though

I still dont get what it is about blasphemous that i dont like. The genre is exactly my thing but both 1 and 2 just bore me. And idk why

"Terraria : Most successful indie of all time"
Minecraft : Am I a joke to you ?
i think he doesnt count Minecraft a an indie game anymore because it got bought by Microsoft many many years ago.
Microsoft is indie? 😂
