You should always loosen the oil filter first before draining the oil. There is an anti drainback valve that will keep the oil filter housing full to achieve oil pressure quickly after starting. When you do it after draining the oil you are draining old oil from the oil filter housing down into the oil pan after you just drained it. It’ll also be overfilled by whatever amount was in the oil filter housing.
What a bunch of Frakers at BMW head office for burying the oil filter like that !!!! They could have totally avoided that !!! Is the alternator down under the oil filter also? BMW loves doing that also. As always Brian great videos !!!
I love my S58 but it really sucks how difficult BMW made simple Maintenance. Kinda like Apple preventing people from self servicing their iPhones. I’ve taken my G80 in for 2-oil changes, both were $240+.
It is easily accessible on the B58s. The S58 has it in the same location, but the cooling system was redesigned, which is why the reservoir is in the way now. It's a track car made for enthusiasts who don't cry about little things like this.
I ended up putting the filter first to make sure it is seated right then the cover and torque it to specifications. I figured that eventually will have the filter seated itself in the cover.
A few tips for BMW ///M Car Oil Changes - Ceratec is colored brown like a Cafe Latte. So expect a crazy look on the Tech's face, while draining your oil. - Get a box of drain plugs ($2 each) and change them every 4-5 oil changes. The drain plug threads wear over time. - Due to the jump in oil prices, expect to pay $17-20 a litre. Kies carries all of these Liqui Moly at a great price. - The newest BMWs use BMW LL-01 FE 5w-30 oil. FE stands for Fuel Economy, meaning less viscosity for better MPG. The prior BMW LL-01 grade is also popular in BMW N54/N55 engines. Liqui Moly has Special Tech 5w-30 Oil for both LL-01 and LL-01 FE. The label says Special Tech 5w-30 B FE, which is short for BMW LL-01 FE. I use Liqui Moly Leichtlauf 5w-40 for my N55 powered BMW F30 335i. My Auto Shop doesn't carry Special Tech 5w-30, but I will ask them to carry it, since it is so widely used.
This video is missing 2 crucial steps that will make pulling the filter out easier. 1. unclip the wiring harness on the intake manifold and push it to the side 2. the coolant bottle has a hose clipped on the side, unclip it
Would you please think about adding a 5 series to your garage. I have a 2017 540i Msport and it's hard to find good info to modify it. Also it could help your channel grow. 👍
Another fine German engineered obsolescence design example with that oil filter placement. It's truly hard to believe they can get away with this, no shortage of customers in our financial engineered easy money society I suppose.
Would removing the engine cover give better spacing to remove the oil filter?? And, can the oil filter be installed 1st to the housing, and then install the oil filter cap??
I went to my local dealership in Sterling, VA, looked under the hood. Removing the engine cover won't help, it's all packed there. You can remove a part of the plastic cowl though. But you still have to move the canister out of the way. Apparently, Toyota suggested to relocate the oil filter housing. Thanks a lot!

Haha for real, why put the oil filter all the way back there 😂 made a super ez job into a headache

I prefer this dashboard 1000 times than the new iPad thing that they decided to switch to now.
One of the best tutorials on oil change on a G8x! Thanks

@08:20 Notice the digital display animation shows the BMW G80 M3 and is color matched in Isle of Man Green. COOL!!!
I love your videos and this car is freaking sweet!
Great job on it!
I’ve been glued to the channel since I recently found it. Well done 🤝
I know this is obvious but for those that do not know, engine oil needs to be warm before draining.
Kies FTW🤜🏻🤛🏻🤘🏻
love the quality content Kies Motorsport

That oil filter placement is pretty trash lmao
Will you be able to shoot a video on how to change your brake pads and rotors on a G20 M340i?
This video is missing 2 crucial steps that will make pulling the filter out easier.
1. unclip the wiring harness on the intake manifold and push it to the side
2. the coolant bottle has a hose clipped on the side, unclip it
Nice informative video, thanks bro
Outstanding, thanks for posting this!
Please provide a link to the link for the torque wrench you are using. Many wrenches begin torquing at 50 fbs.
Liqui moly says ceratec is good for 5L of oil per bottle. I noticed only 1 bottle was added do I only need 1 for a F98 s58 engine? Thank you.
That oil filter location is as deep as the dipstick was on my Shelby GT350. Both terribly designed.
Happy that N55/S55 has it right at the top.
Great video ! Can this oil be used for the S55?
Firstly loosen oil filter housing, and only then start draining oil
No spillage. Nicely done!

If you have any specific question let me know, I have a 2018 540i M sport and have done ALOT to it
Is it the same for 2024 bmw x5 ? Triple tab engine start and cycle through with BC stalk
I can only imagine how much of a mess dealership techs make with this service due to the filter location
Hi Kies, I am just wondering how do you deal with the used oil ??? Somebody gonna come and collect it?
porque el agua del refrijerante es azul en el bmw m4 f82 y de otro color en el bmw m3 g80
Wait you can use ceratech in a low mileage car?
I’m surprised they use that oil that 5-30 only has a hths of 3.0 that’s low for that car isn’t it?
Changing Oil like a boss, checking the oil level is for noobs.
Does this oil service appear in the idrive after you reset it ?

Handbrake needs to be off when doing the reset. If not, reset will be unsuccessful
🔥🔥🔥

Filtre en 1er c est pas mieux ?
Honestly, that is enough of a reason for me to not even buy this car. Porsche here I come.
Motul 5w40 ll tous les 6/7000 km suffit pourtant
First step is to add engine oil flush to the engine oil let the car idle for 10-15 minutes then drop the engine oil.
Who misses the f30 videos?
