Well I don't think the games themselves are why Ryu gets a bad rap with some ppl, it honestly depends on who plays him...
Some ppl play Ryu like garbage because they don't understand what his gameplan is all about, and that makes any unknowledgeable spectator think the character himself just inherently sucks; on the flipside you have ppl like Daigo who are very skilled with Ryu, and they make him look like the badass spiritual warrior he truly is X3
@@Frosted_Moontips True, but I can say that about any character that's being played at a low level. Even at high level, Ryu didn't look fun to play with in SF4 (imo) and especially not SF5. In this game, the presentation of Ryu is done well and thanks to the mechanics of the game, it gives players alternative routes to take with him and the entire cast. I just have a far better feeling about him in this game than any other ones since SF3.

@@Frosted_Moontips the funny thing is daigo himself said ryu was just not fun and straight up bad in sf5 lol but that was before the final patch that made many gameplay changes so idk if his opinion of sf5 ryu changed. There’s a reason why he switch to guile lol
@@azureknight729 that is because ryu was so top tier at the beginning of sf5 just like the vanilla version of sf4. For some reason Capcom makes Ryu too powerful at the beginning then nerfs him heavily in later patches until they finally fix him in the final versions. I really hope they don't nerf Ryu this time around because that would suck.

Ryu in this game looks so cool, between the new short range energy attack and that charge up ability he looks like some kind of energy expert which is a flavor of fighter that I like a lot, I mean obviously he can still absolutely pulverize bone with his fists but these moves really go well with that vibe of meditative self mastery.
Max vs that Ryu was what we can officially call "some goodass SF6", goddamn that was fun.
That last match with Ryu was absolutely epic! The back and forth and mutual respect. This game is looking phenomenal

Idk who showed me but bruh. Ryus level 3 is insane. It doesn’t even need full animation and it violates as an anti air. This also seems like the first game where chip damage MAKES SENSE

The fighting looks more fluid but still has the traditional arcade fighting style. Haven’t played SF since 4 but i really want to play this

Going to be honest even though Ken has dramatically improved in SF6 to almost not being recognizable awesome. Ryu in the end is still the star of the show we have to give him credit for that and has been a consistent Legend the entire series not that Chun Li hasn't done the same they are neck and neck in their progression!
Ryu was buns in sf5 and sf4 until omega.

Ken wouldn't lose. He's always beaten base Ryu and and overcame dark Hadoe Ryu in the past.
@@sorakazama7031 Ryu has the better win record, which means Ryu's been beating Ken's ass even when he was struggling with the Hadou. Ryu doesn't "power up" when fighting Ken and he still wins. People always trying to downplay Ryu when he's a typical overpowered protagonist you see in Shounen manga.
@@blackout1524 You must not know the lore. The first person to stop Ryu dark hadoe was Ken. He had been training that fire shoryuken for a threat but ended up having to use it to ko Ryu. In the movies Ken always beats the people Ryu couldn't. Only time Ryu ever beat Ken as far as I know is when they first met and when Ken was taken over by bison but that was just a Ken in a blind rage so could you really consider that him? Ryu was getting demolished by C viper. It took the dark hadoe to match her. She did her strongest move on Ken and he blocked it with one arm casually and she said "damn you're no slouch yourself" and then ran away immediately. Stop it bro.
@@sorakazama7031 Ken never stopped Dark Hadou Ryu in any canon material. The only movie that's canon is the one in SFIV and it was Sakura who stopped Dark Hadou Ryu by hugging him. lol
Ryu wasn't getting demolished by C. Viper, the fight got interrupted. Ken used the Mu no Ken to stop C. Vipers punch, and guess what happens later in the movie? Ryu uses it way better than Ken and beats Seth with 1 move. Ryu could sense it in himself and Ken, while Ken can't sense it at all.
You don't know the canon which is fine. Most Ken dick suckers don't play SF for story, they usually lie out their teeth to make Ken look good. You probably think Ken's half white when he's actually 3/4 Japanese born and raised in Japan.

That's cuz it's a punish counter. If max didn't go for the parry (which you can literally only see for a frame 😅) it wouldn't have been counted as a punish, but parries are probably the easiest attacks to punish with a throw.

Evil Ryu is always fun! But I hope this game gives us a Ryu who has FULLY mastered the power of Nothingness. Base SF6 Ryu already seems to be going in that direction. So a full revamp (Gouken-ish style) Ryu will be awesome! They could give him a more classic version of his theme to really sell the idea too.
the fact they mixed evil ryu with goken stuff and gave him new tools made this ryu the exact guy i envisioned at the end of 3rd strike. not gonna lie, if it wasn't for juri i would def been maining ryu in sf6
