It's not her fault but she definitely would need to learn to stand up for herself but on her own time because everyone is different. Also it's not true that she would get bullied for the rest of her life because once adulthood hits it pretty much goes away. It’s easier in some ways to just detach yourself from the situation, and pretend like it isn’t happening. Maybe it’s just me but like when you’re considered “different” and also am sensitive and don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, it can be even harder. And after you try it and it fails you probs won’t try it again you know. It’s so much harder than people say it is.

Bullying is always completely wrong and unacceptable and should not be justified under any circumstances. When someone is being bullied, it is never their fault. Bullying someone is always wrong. A person being bullied not explicitly asking for the bullying to stop is not giving permission for the bullying to continue.
There are some disabilities that can potentially make “standing up for oneself” or advocating for oneself or explicitly asking for bullying to stop more challenging. It can be challenging to advocate for oneself and for one to explicitly ask for bullying to stop even if one does not have a disability. Fear at the moment, power dynamics and/or other factors can contribute to advocating for oneself being challenging at the moment. If one is unable to explicitly ask for bullying to stop at the moment the that the bullying is happening I would advise them to physically leave the bullies if they can do so safely, for their own safety and to show they don’t condone the bullying.

It can be challenging to advocate for oneself and for one to explicitly ask for bullying to stop even if one does not have a disability (fear at the moment, power dynamic and/or other factors that contribute to advocating for oneself being challenging at the moment). If one is unable to explicitly ask for bullying to stop at the moment the that the bullying is happening I would advise them to walk or run away from the bullies if at all feasible, for their own safety and to show they don’t condone the bullying.

When a person gets bullied and the victim…
tells an adult on the bully, | fights back, | does nothing,
…at least one of the following tends to happen:
The adult tries unsuccessfully | The victim gets blamed by an adult | Witnesses conclude it’s the
to deal with the bully. | along with or instead of the bully. |victim’s fault for not fighting back.

It's not a simple ''Period'' You can't draw simple conclusions from a super complex topic/issue. As someone who've gotten bullied and studied psychology for a year before dropping out. I know that psychology isn't black and white, and people treating it as such in this instance with bullying as an example doesn't help a damn thing. There are plenty of instances where it is the ''victims'' fault.

We need to change language around “bullying”. Kids don’t care about being called a bully, maybe “abuse”, what it really is, should be used.

"It's your fault". Absolutly not! If you ignore your bullies, they'll continue until they get a reaction. If you react and try to stand up for yourself, by saying like "just leave me alone, go away", they'll carry on because they get a reaction out of you. When it comes to bullying it's very difficult to get them to stop. But it's NEVER the victim's fault. EVER. From personal experience, the best thing to do is do everything you can to ignore them, and please tell an adult if it happens at all any time. Nobody should ever make you feel bad about yourself. You are amazing and worth everything ❤

  • @baremuthebum

I was bullied one too many times before for being insecure. I wanted to stand up for myself but I couldn’t otherwise I’d get in trouble for that. So this girl stood up for me when I was down and told the bullies to shut up and go find something else to do. Now she and I are very good friends. But If I see someone getting bullied now, I’d say to the bullies “keep treating him/her like that and I’ll either call the cops or kick your ass, because this is straight up harassment.”

Everyone seems to think by ''stand up for yourself'' legit means stand on the bullied and fight them, no.. I was bullied.. For a long time.. I decided to basically hold my ground, tell them to fuck off and much as I could for everday, until they stopped. And it worked. Physical contact will only make things worse, not for the bully, for YOU.
