- I worked on this game as a Level Designer, and this was my first time ever attempting to 100% the game entirely.
THAW is charming and great in its own way, but unfortunately, the misfires for double rolls and flips ruins the game for me completely. Boned ollies are a runner up, whereas the bike and parkour mishaps can be avoided for the most part.
I debated whether or not to include the Gap portion of this in the edit, but we voted on it in discord and 95+% of the voters said that they'd enjoy it all in one video.
Thanks for tuning in. In October 2023, I had a big health scare and was out of commission for a couple months, and have since been editing this video whenever I can. I have a list of videos that had to take a backseat (THPS1+2 on Steam, Rider's Republic skate DLC and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk etc) to this cause this was my largest edit job ever. I think I might have missed the boat on getting those out at a relevant time.

This game is almost like a religion to me, to be able to watch one of the devs play it fully while criticizing the same stuff that pissed me off as a kid and dropping random previously never talked about trivia about the creation of it is just a gift of a lifetime. THank you so much Andy!

I always recognized Mindy's voice actress from As Told By Ginger, and Rugrats. I'll never forget pausing the game to go to the kitchen and grab a drink while my sister was watching As Told By Ginger and my mind was blown.
I looked up some of her other stuff and she's got almost 400 roles under her belt from Clifford The Big Red Dog, Captain Planet, Looney Toons, and games like Dragon Age Origins, Crackdown 2, Diablo 3, Final Fantasy 13 and a small role in FFX just to name a few.

Wow, I finaly made it through this behemoth of a video all the way through!!! Andy I can't tell you how much this game means to me and how much I enjoy hearing all your stories, ranting, and raving. The work everyone at Neversoft put into this game really helped shaped me and my taste (especially in music!) as this was the game I would play endlessly and just hang out in because I loved the levels. Watching all your videos I realize just how hard it must've been to work on this franchise, just know that the work you did on this game brought hours upon hours of joy, entertainment and comfort to a young kid getting this as their first Tony Hawk game after having only played THPS3 at a cousin's house. I'm so glad you did all the gapes in this video, it was the perfect backdrop to replaying a bunch of Tony games. the whole intro is what stopped me playing this game when I was younger, I absolutely could not stand having to get my fucking tricks back after playing all the other games haha. So frustrating

I think this goal here 2:46:29 is a good example of why American Wasteland is so rough around the edges. So much cognitive disconnect in what the player wants to do, the power fantasy of being an awesome radical skater, what they are ACTUALLY doing in the game and they way its all presented. It's a good thing the core gameplay was THAT fun that players endured through it all.
THAW is probably my favourite out of the all PS2 games, so I'm 100% gonna watch all of this.

American Wasteland is...I think my favorite Tony Hawk Game. It really showed that a skating game could possibly be. However I think it was one of those classic "too ambitious" for it's time. with todays tech this game would be such a hit with a true open world and just being able to shove everything wild and crazy down our throats.

I know this comment is kinda old but he's one of the devs that worked on the game and he got the job cause was really good at playing the old THPS games and they hired him to be a tester and do the demos that play when you leave it on the menu too long.

Man, it's crazy to hear you hate on this game so hard. Certain things are totally warranted of course, but I actually think it controls best in the series. It's so snappy and responsive, even THUG2 and 1+2 feel sluggish in comparison. And I don't find anything wrong with the bike controls, I think it's pretty fun.
for the most part it's pretty good. It's at least an A tier THPS game in my opinion, but there are objective faults with its handling that could take a few hours or maybe a day to address and bring it up to an S. A shame that this era of games got no updates. 1+2 and THUG2 both feel great to me, and they have their own faults too - just not as bad as THAW's
@@andyTHPS You mentioned accidental inputs like rolls and bert slides, which I get, but the bert slide thing has never been an issue for me since I guess I time spins differently. I do get the accidental rolls on occasion, but not often enough for me to blame the game instead of me being sloppy. Is it an actual glitch that makes it unfairly hard to avoid, or can you avoid accidental rolls just by getting good?
I kind of have the same thoughts on bank drops and wall runs. They can be annoying if you aren't used to them, but for me can actually be fun and useful if you use them in the right way. Bank drops halting your momentum and letting you redirect it can be useful and stylish, kind of like stalls.
this was always my favorite Tony Hawk's game and no amount of a developer calling it cringe will change that :D

Honestly I never had a problem with the Stevie Williams challenge it took me like 3 tries to do it and it felt refreshing to actually have to utilize some skill the rest of the game up to that point I just kinda walked on through at a steady never stopping pace
THUG to THAW were peak TH games.
I love this game. You guys really killed this game. At the time this was cutting edge for female create-a-character…seriously… not other game was allowing the level of customization and style options for female characters.
