- NASA's Kepler mission has confirmed the first near-Earth-size planet in the “habitable zone” around a sun-like star. The newly discovered Kepler-452b is the smallest planet to date discovered orbiting in the habitable zone -- the area around a star where liquid water could pool on the surface of an orbiting planet -- of a G2-type star, like our sun. The confirmation of Kepler-452b brings the total number of confirmed planets to 1,030. This video shows an artist's concept that depicts one possible appearance of the planet Kepler-452b.

So what if we can't go there? It's not always about leaving earth. This is about answering some of our most fundamental questions. The question of whether life is only on Earth. As far as we know, we have never confirmed life to be found anywhere other than earth. Being able to discover that life exists somewhere else, or to discover that life does not exist in a place that we think life should exist, will bring us new insights.
Bullcrap because we don't have the tech to go there simple as that.
@@mobileplayers5008i don't think you understood what they were saying.
Never abandoned the space program. It's a wonderful and worthwhile program
Thanks NASA for your efforts in discovering new worlds. I hope we make contact with another forms of intelligence in this century
That's my earth
Imagine if we get radio signals from this planet.
Their satellite can take pictures of the planet and send it through a strong signal millions of miles away, and i'm just sitting here trying to get a better wi-fi connection from the room next door
I hear this news almost every year! What's the point! We're never going to go that far.
Well that is true, but it gives you an idea that we definitely aren't alone in the universe.
Hey you never know what can happen
Joseph Rodriguez
That's true but we're gaining nothing from that thought. That planet looks like our Earth after billions of years. How come those people couldn't come to us? It's all desire for fantasy.
TBullets maybe they did and we are the...dunn dunnn dunnnnn.
***** them*
Thanks NASA

Any oil for the US?
Kepler is the perfect cousin to what Earth was before just until man gets on there
then it will become "Earth 2.0"
I get the feeling that one day the probe will stop transmitting. And the last image it sends back will be of something we dont want to see.
Lol
Marcus Beeman hahah
Marcus Beeman what probe? This is a telescope we're talking about.
Dirtfire dont take everything serious , he is surely joking hahaha :P
Marcus Beeman it ends with a picture of a earth sized penis planet
I feel excited when I think there's someone waiting for me for thousands years,do you?
Such wise words
does anyone know what is the gigantic line in the middle from 0:06-0:08
Perhaps someday we will figure out how to travel through light beams by creating worm holes... And traveling across the galaxy and universe will become instantaneous.
Why did you take down IHE
In relative terms, the distance from earth to this newly discovered planet, Kepler 452b, is equivalent to the distance from the border of northern Maine to central Maine (or for those on the left coast, the border from northern Washington state to its southern part). In other words, we’re in the same state on a galactic level. Now isn’t that interesting?
ALIEN YEAH 👽
Good new, thanks Nasa for this.
I hope that there are living beings!
Wonderful news, wow what possibilities. Good luck and smooth sailing. Looking forward to receiving more information as it becomes available.
What is the update of this mission
# I ask at NASA, and possible build an:
"Telescope laser" that from a distance creates a scanzione or a photographic view through a laser bright ??? In order to examine the planets at a distance.
Alcool Ben I ask at NASA, and possible build an:
"Telescope laser" that from a distance creates a scanzione or a photographic view through a laser bright ??? In order to examine the planets at a distance.
plq
+Alcool Ben Also remember that what we are viewing is the light reflected from said object that has traveled 100's - 1,000,000's of years across the galaxy. Even if we could study the images we could never tell exactly what is currently there. So, with my active imagination i think, "Look a planet with an atmosphere, oceans, tress and maybe even a huge variety of animals". But, what we see from this planet is about 1,400 years ago. In it's current state it could be overran by a civilization or destroyed in a cosmic collision by a comet. Who knows. Also, everything in space moves so it isn't even where it appears to be. It would definitely be amazing to find a planet with some form of life that we could study. I hear there are "suppose to be" rivers of water under the surface of mars. That sounds like a good place to start exploring.
Caster Troy This is why I thought of a laser telescope, which could give a reliability of real images, since the light and much faster.
Alcool Ben I'm confused. Is the telescope sending laser light at objects in the universe? If so, it is still light and should take the same light years to go towards a planet and then reflect back. A planet 1,400 light years away would take 2,800 years to receive the light and our position in our own galaxy/solar system would be vastly different by then. Perhaps it would work for the planets within our own solar system. Can we even make a laser beam bright enough to make it that far? I guess if it were used in space with less gravity and no atmosphere to interfere it would work fine.
A great discovery. Salute the efforts of scientists to find earth like planet exiting in this universe. It will prove we are not alone
If there's life in Kepler, they are looking at us in the same way and saying the same things
If it's older than Earth, if it's giving us the preview of the Earth after billions of years. Therefore, it's possible there was alien life before on that planet and there's a small possibility we came from that planet.
Born too early to space travel and born too late to discover Earth.
It's amazing how many planets are discovered beyond our Solar System, the so called exoplanets, but I am curious on how they will ever send people there, considering how long the distance is to reach it.
They should start working on probes with faster than light capabilities to study the planets that Kepler discovers, That way we can know for sure if the planets could support us
Could you digitally store a persons conscientious and implant it in to clone body when you arrived there?
How we will go there ?
Adventure Story It is impossible to go there because its 1400 light years away from planet Earth :'(
+Amina Benghazi It's not impossible, just hellishly hard.
I will live on it
It’s like earth’s big brother
how fantastic is this.... wish i was born now and watch it all come together ..
But how can we pass this long distance to reach there?
Its so amazing how the names will be called in the future.. -Where are you going? - To Earth or Kepler-u72678 LOL.. so amazing
Didn't we discover Kepler 452-b like, a year ago? Why are we hearing about this now?
+theScholarlyWalrus Because they had just confirmed it's existence.
"Suppose a spacecraft designed to accelerate at 1 g so we'd be comfortable aboard it.
We'd go closer and closer to the speed of light until the midpoint of the journey. Then the spacecraft is turned around and we decelerate at 1 g to the destination.
For most of the trip, the velocity would be close to the speed of light and time would slow down enormously.
By how much?
Barnard's Star could be reached by such a ship in eight years, ship time.
The center of the Milky Way galaxy in 21 years.
The Andromeda galaxy in 28 years.
Of course, the people left behind on the Earth would see things somewhat differently.
Instead of 21 years to the galaxy they would measure it as 30,000 years.
When we got back very few of our friends would be around to greet us.
In principle, such a journey mounting the decimal points closer and closer to the speed of light would even permit us to circumnavigate the known universe in 56 years, ship time. We would return tens of billions of years in the far future with the Earth a charred cinder and the sun dead."
Carl SAGAN, Cosmos Episode 8: Travels in Time and Space, 1980
Kepler 452B is Earth's older cousin. Kepler 425B is bigger and older than Earth. Kepler 425B had more water than Earth. No living thing had found in Kepler 425B yet. Kepler 425B can make life a little bit. (P. S. I did not learn so much about Kepler 452B.)
Not a single original Kepler foto of the 452b. Only artist's representation...
It may be light years away and not possible to our present technology, but it is interesting to know whether we are or not alone in the cosmos. May be man would consider each other a little better if we realised that we are not alone.
What if some of the measured mass is from an orbiting moon? The the planet size could be closer to that of Earth maybe even less.
At 1.6 × geometry (4 × volume), Kepler-452b is likelier a submini-gas-planet like Mars was, but with a more massive core necessary to have kept most of its atmosphere 6 Ga (6 Gyr from its own beginning 6 Ga), having started 5% further away (10% dimmer)-unless its G-star sun has spectral indications, emission/absorption lines, for 4 × total dirt in its pre-sun nebula system... so it's probably a heavy airy 'Mearth', Let's nickname it: "Forces-B, Fourfiftwo-B, Foursanctu-B".
Any new information gathered from JWST?
The question is, does it have oceans?
Sephiroth S good question
Sephiroth S It looks like it has, but I'm impatiently waiting for more informations about this awesome discovery.
Oh, imagine if it has. Earth wouldnt have developed life without our vast oceans.
+blackmagic x
I heard that the creatures there are even more sentient than humans. Like 1 of them = the mind power and power of 70 humans.
I don't know but that's something cool I've seen.
Like I'm pretty sure they even sent a rocket WITHOUT ANYONE IN IT to Earth.
+blackmagic x Imagine all the strange wildlife.
When are we going to start sending probes to some of these planets Kepler is discovering?
Way too far to even send something out. We would die hundreds of times before we even get to see the planet.
*****
You underestimate quantum mechanics
***** I wasn't suggesting that we send people, just a machine. I know it'll take a long time, even if we were to flash lasers at the light wouldn't arrive there for 1400 years but if we ignore these planets Kepler is discovering it devalues the discovery.
Jacques Guénette why, do you know how to build a wormhole machine? Do tell.
Tell Max it concerns the Sandman it's not just 1400 years, it's 1400 LIGHT YEARS. Light travels at 186,000 miles per second..so I can't even write how long it'll take anything to get over there.
It will take a very long time to be able to reach to a technology level that will make us get there.
Can they build 20 Kepler's that are also connected to energy passing waves similar like our street lights that collect energy from the sun like for WiFi and electricity.. So it passes down so when each 20 are spaced out from each other could detect further??? That and, what's the space crafts gravity control, how does that work?. Why can't they build space crafts like in the movie zenon, girl of the 21st century space crafts that are very dependant with built in oxygen fuel systems?..
What about gliese
MAGNIFICENT
What I'm curious about is this is that the planet is10% larger and brighter. With it being so close in resemblance to earth, what effects will these differences have to the human body? Given of course, that a human does make it to the planet eventually
It's very interesting and good news, for living on another planet as well, for finding new life and explorer it, but there is one problem you said older than us. Are not we suppose to search a planet like that but younger than earth?.
سبحان الله الكوكب على بعد 1400 سنة ، يعني 2.7 مليون سنة لسيارة بسرعة 150 كم تقريبا ، الزبدة ودي اعيش فيه ☺ .
Leave your super natural claims where they belong please , do not use god that doesn`t exist out of science.

religion to me is an extreme form of the smiths syndrome , they use a god to excuse their inhumane treatment of all life on earth not just humans who call bullshit on their god claims.
1400 años luz aqui a la vuelta esta ese planeta.
Please do not feed the usual anti-NASA/ESA/ISS trolls, who vote "dislike". They themselves do not even believe their own BS. They are only spamming. Thank You.
Note to the trolls: I worked at JPL from 1973 to 1986. Do you have a problem with that?
Only 10% more energy from their sun and their water is evaporating. Scary :3
To Dear Ms/Mr. NASA:
Hello, dear NASA, nice to know you, I'm a student coming from HK, I love your vedio and news on youtube channel, it made me learned alot of space's knowledge.
First of all, may I ask a few information about the space and Kepler system?
Because I want to be an astronaut, I don't want to watching the space thought the TV, I want to feel the zero gravity feeling, planning to exploring the universe, help ppl moving on another planet.
I want to know about how far away from our Earth to Kepler 452b are? How many light years/Earth years between of us?
Is it some alien living in Kepler system there we don't know? If the Kepler 452b were dead right now, how many years before when we know it?
At last, my English so bad, and I am studing to writing English letter, I hope you don't mind. I'm looking forward of your massage soon.Thank you again.
Wish all the best with NASA everyone and Merry Christmas.
Your sincerely
fan forever.

Travel time via light speed : 1405 years.
1400 years light, how many of our years are?
It's probably a water world with greater atmospheric pressure than Venus.
Bleeping amazing Hope we can live there some day I really wish we can live there there code be really cool critters there
comfirmed can live there ? i don think so . If no plants at there , how can we get the food ? everyone , please think before going to there
So far it is impossible for a Human to Travel that far but if we send some kind of space probe with live feed we could see what is there, But of course it wouldn't be live (Real time) because it would take a couple of hours to send back the data.
MrGalaxy It would take 1.400 yrs to receive the data. But I guess you have to be a woman to see that ;)
Galaxia Only if the data travels at the speed of light...
Jdude154 Im sorry i think alot of us wish that to be actual be true but apparently the limiting factor to how fast data actually does travel is the speed of light. Data trasmitted travels AT the speed of light no faster no slower
Dylan Fulton .....so your saying data travels at the speed of light?
Dylan Fulton Exactly....and it'll take even longer just to get the probe there.....
wow, I guess we have to take their word on it, because their evidence is a cartoon drawing.
Does anyone else find it kinda weird that Google just literally sent this to your phone and told you to look at it that's the first time I've ever had in my Samsung Google phone tells me that RUclips has a video that I want to see
The greatest part of all this is: All we see is in the past.
first thing what i thought when i saw this planet was PANDORA
So this planet, which orbits a star in the Cygnus constellation, is earth like, just heavier, around a brighter sun and about 2 billion years older. As a result, its sentient inhabitants - if any - would be shorter than humans, about 4 feet tall, would have black eyes and gray skin, and would be called the Solipsi Rai :-). Or maybe that would be KIC 8462852.. I dunno :-).
#ThanksNASA
So happy if we can live there
The sad truth is that we will never visit such a planet.
Not only the fact that it's simply too far away, but humans beings will destroy themselves
before we even figure out a way of getting there. Refer to the Fermi paradox.
They should send drone there.. But tooks 1400 light years to get there..
wow, exciting
I 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖 NASA. You guys are awesome. Keep going. There's more to find. 🔭🌚
Good bless ..
wonder who they have as Minister of Labour ..
and of course the Environment ..
[c] mr bob 2015
gotta see my older cousin there.
I love it! So much we are learning every day, all thanks to science!
Oh yay, are we trying to find another planet to destroy like we did this one? Or will it end up being like "Firefly" and we can never return to this one but can ruin all the other ones...
Hey you
Thank God for wisdom
How did they get past thermosphere and no real pictures just cgi
idk why.. this pop up in my lockscreen.. im not subscribed to this channel.. but anyway..nice job NASA
Same here
Whats the point behind this?
Dont judge a book from its cover 😊.
1stly we should build some super faster spaceship. Faster than light. Or warp drive. Then we should find new planets like earth
What a pity nobody will ever set foot on it
will someone land there
Maybe we can go there before the earth over populates lol
Zenen Hernandez nah we wont over populate too many ppl dying
the water color is different
When are we going to send drones?
讚啦!!
if there is water on this planet, there is going to be atleast plants.
Maybe some day we will see it happening
Is it a habitable planet?
Yup
how they know how old is the planet??
+Counters Gaming By looking at the parent Star, how do you think we found out how old the Sun was?
I hope i can live there someday... And maybe have some new alien friends..
is true?
This is Great.
imagine they fine a space station
Maybe in kepler 452 b would have a advanced civilisation.... If more advanced... More power ful... So going there and sharing our signal is more dangerous to us.... 😊
Maximum Warp!
Fantástico!!! nos llena de esperanza a toda la humanidad
NASA says that Kepler 452b has more minerals than Earth.
United States Department of State is concerned about the undemocratic regime of Protoliberia :)
