    Diagnosing a problem properly is like learning to call balls and strikes from the bench or the stands. You have see something, remember what you think you saw and then figure out what the issue is on what you thought you saw. Video from a good angle helps. That way you can slow it down. See how the mechanics are coming together and better pinpoint the issue.

    Excellent advice. Love frustration/passion you have for this. So, where does "squish the bug" fit on the batting tips you hate list?

    So i kinda like ,relax and be on time .
    If your struggling, youger players tend to swing harder vs faster pitching .just be on time find the ball good things happen .

    I love how he bashes on "let it get deep" by proceeding to hit the ball 12 inches in front of his front foot in his exaggerated "pull" swing. I certainly don't ascribe to an outside-in bat path, but line the tee up off your right nut and try to pull it - not gonna happen. "Letting it travel" is a good way to hit opposite field, and quite frankly the only way to hit an outside pitch with power

    I coach 10 year olds, and the two I hate most are "knob to the ball" (because kids this age respond by casting their hands in a disconnected way) and "foot down early" (because kids respond by fake striding while the ball is in the pitcher's hands).

    • @cmajr1232

      I teach my kids “knob inside the ball”….that’s while staying “connected” . The barrel will follow, be in path. Of course staying through the ball is the difficult part I’ve found with young kids

    • @jockoadams3377
      @jockoadams3377 Год назад

      Knob to the ball in general is fine. But yeah to a 10 year old, they might take it literal. I like the knob inside.. or thinking about pulling the knob along the white line of the batters box.

    In terms of getting pulled back and getting the barrel into the zone early, do you teach that to kids at all ages or do you recommend waiting until a certain age to work on those types of moves?

    One of your best videos. Very thorough and attacks a problem from multiple angles. As they say, talk is cheap. So much hitting advice boils down to talking at a player rather than showing/doing. Also, you're looking pretty swoll these days. Did you resume the road to 400 behind the scenes?

      Mr Lopez take a look at a golf video by a man named John Schlee called the power plane comparing Joe Morgan to Ben Hogan now pay attention to how John Schlee breaks down the role of the fingers of the right hand and how it relates to the motion right elbow being tucked correctly if you work a bat or golf club back and down incorrectly you will end up with a dropped back shoulder or what they call a reverse pivot in golf NO good

    Thanks, Matt. You have a great way of explaining all of these situations. I've noticed many coaches love to coach in non-stop cliches. I love your ability to breakdown what's happening. My son is a year older than yours and I never played baseball. It's become my favorite as I've helped coach on my son's teams for the last 4 years. We have many batters that are "jumpy" and way out in front on the swing. And you're right, they'll get lucky and surprise you with a solid hit, backed up by typical youth fielding, stretching a single into a double or triple. Then the kid feels great for producing, but it doesn't mean he is learning anything. It's like when I thought I figure out golf when I had back to back birdies...and then continued on to have one of the worst scoring rounds of my life lol. Keep the videos coming. I'm interested in your services soon for the paid programs. I want to make sure my son has a higher level of commitment first. My goal is to use your tips to help him improve. If we can get him to see the fruits of his labor and extra work (without burnout of course), I'll spring for the in depth content you have available.
    Again, thank you so much for putting all this free content out there!

  • @fishncoach8699

    And for the 75% of high school players who can hit the ball deep but can't adjust to even be able to take an off speed pitch?? Most of the ones I see have the ability to hit it deep, but they go take BP and try to yank everything so then they are super early with timing and swinging at the motion before recognizing the pitch... What's your verbal cue then?

    • @ajonihopkins5386

      @@jimmywilson852 it's similar to how he explains the bat path issue in the video. The hitter is "trying" to let the ball get deep, but their bat path doesn't allow them to.
      In your instance, the weight shift forward doesn't allow the hitter to wait for the ball to "travel". So they're trying, but it's hard/impossible with how they currently swing. He posted another video on Thai channel about the weight shift (I think it mentions lunging in the title?) that should help you in your instance

    • @999jbrooks
      @999jbrooks 2 года назад +1

      @@jimmywilson852 The kid needs to float and not dump his upper half into the ball. The root of the issue is the weight shift. The ball needs more time, but the hitter is getting into positions where he can't control his timing. Telling the kid "let it travel" isn't going to teach him to hit better. I always go out of my way to queue the athlete and not external factors like the ball that they can't control.
      I'm not matt. I'm just a u12 coach of a local team, but that's my take.

    • @AntonelliBaseball
      @AntonelliBaseball  2 года назад +1

      Usually a mechanically issue. Depends on the hitter, but probably doesn't rotate well. Lower body slides or jumps not allowing the barrel to get out front. Or rear arm leads causing bat drag.

  • @Mitten4371

    Yea when I was playing I was never told to let the ball get deep but if your playing youth baseball well your going to face pitchers who has pretty good breaking stuff. But basically with off speed pitch you have to stay back enough to recognize spin but you can't let the ball get deep if they are throwing fastballs at you because you will never catch up. When I was pitching in little league I could throw pretty hard but I knew how to mess with the hitters timing. Because if I threw a fastball then I knew the hitter would back up in the box but if the hitter moved up in the box then I would throw fastballs. But I also pitched in highschool and also during my youth years and played for coaches who played pro or college and so my baseball knowledge is rich even at 45 years old. But pitchers love to mess with the hitters timing and so if your allowing the ball to get deep and you can't catch up to the fastball. Well guess what that pitcher is going to do? So that is something to think about if you tell the hitter to let the ball get deep and sometimes hitters try to think along with the pitcher and pitchers think along with the hitter as well
