- On Monday, West Ham announced that David Moyes will leave the club when his contract expires in the summer.
After a prolonged search for Moyes’ successor, it seems the Hammers have landed on Julen Lopetegui. So why have West Ham chosen the former Spain, Real Madrid and Wolves manager over other candidates?

May I remind you sensitive souls of how Moyes arrived at WHUFC ? Both times, he negotiated with David Sullivan mid-season and whilst the existing managers Bilic and Pellegrini were under contract. And, furthermore…… he was appointed all very publicly as a result of their sacking. They didn’t have the luxury of reaching the ends of their contracts. So, please spare us the “boo-hoos”. Moyes has benefited from and has been complicit in the same grubby dealings of David Sullivan.

It's normal. Clubs hardly ever sack a manager without having a new one ready.

Let’s have it right: Moyes has left West Ham in a terrible position:
* £500m Spent
* Oldest squad in the league
* Smallest Squad in the league
* Relegation battle last season
* Awful second half this season
* conceded the most goals other than bottom 3
* More touches in our 18yrd box than any team other than Sheffield UTD
Tbf it's difficult to put all the squad related decisions on him. Especially this season when we've had Steiden. We don't really know who took those decisions.
However Moyes is good a alienating players he doesn't want. We've had two of europes best strikers in the last few years and let them leave for pennies

@@jackoberto01 - His renegotiated contract gave Moyes final say on transfers. Hence when offered he could turn them down. He also wanted to increase the age of the squad by McGuire and McTominey 🤣

i don't agree on treating him with respect. he was treated the same as the 2 managers he took over from. He was on Bein sports laughing when asked if he was returning to West ham to take over from Pellegrini. mid-season and a week later Pellegrini was fired and he was in place. Bilic fired mid-season and Moyes took over within 2 days, he clearly spoke to West ham in advance both times.
How do you expect West Ham to act when he has less than 2 months left and Moyes insisting he will decide later. West Ham had to do their due diligence to look for a replacement.
Pellegrini was dogshit didn't deserve the respect Moyes does.
Kudus, and Alvarez were Steinten/Nobel signings. If Moyes had had his way he would have wasted it on Maguire and McTomeney with no resale value.
Moyes cannot find a system for a quality striker like Ings, or Halle, or Scamaccar. Cornet and Benrahma also could not fit in. Aguard and Kherer frustrated. Lots of money wasted for his ego.
I was neutral until a few weeks ago.

At last, The Athletic does a broadcast about a team who are outside of the top 6! Firstly Lopetegui would be a major and I mean a MAJOR upgrade to Moyes. WHU have the oldest and smallest squad in the league due to Moyes mismanagement over the last 4 years but the good news is that Steidten has a war chest of over £100m to spend and that doesn't include the £85m that they will get if Pacquta leaves for City. So this new Moyesless positive team of Steidten and Lopetegui can build a much younger and progressive team around Kudus, Bowen, Alvarez and the Pacman should he stay ... happy dayz and good night Mr Negative Moyes

I think its a great match. Lopetegui is a great coach and West Ham has financial power to satisfy the transfers he needs.
Tim Spiers obviously doesn't recall Moyes at Sunderland and Real Sociedad. He also only got 1 more point than Pelligrini and the last 2 years have been relegation performances. A cup win that any manager in the PL could have achieved with that squad

The truth about the GAS LIGHTING David Moyes, these are not my options as they are clear FACTS!
1. When Moyes took over from Fergie in 2013 he sacked all of his back room staff because he wanted complete control of all of the aspects of the club. 12 years later the club have not recovered from his incompetence
2. Having been SACKED by United in 2014 Moyes moved onto Real Sociedad where he lasted a year with a win rate of 29% before being SACKED AGAIN
3. During Moyes time at Real Sociedad he did not make any attempts to learn Spanish. Sometime later Moyes got a new rule introduced within the Scottish FA that all new managers getting their required badges had to learn a second language even though HE NEVER DID!
4. In 2016 Moyes joined Sunderland where he got them RELEGATED after achiving an amazingly low 19% win rate. Just like Man Utd, Sunderland have never recovered from it!
5. Moyes agreed to take over the WHU manager job whilst Slaven Bilic was still in charge 2017 (Slimy or what) for Moyes to then go onto having a 29% win rate even though Bilic win rate was 38%
6. In 2018 WHU decided not to extend Moyes 1 year contract so they brought onboard the 10 yes TEN managerial trophy winning Pelegrini as their new manager. The board had a knee jerk reaction in sacking him 18 months later in 2019 when WHU were in the relegation zone and sacked him when there was a good chance that he would have secured Prem League safety had be been allowed to carry on.
7. So the club decided to bring back David Moyes who previously had a 29% win rate to replace Pelegrini who had a win rate of 38% (the same as Bilic)
8. Moyes steadied the ship over the next 4 seasons whilst "AS HE LIKES TO TELL EVERYONE" that "HE" won them their first cup in 40 years ... and he did ... but look at the FACTS ... as the WHU had given Moyes over £500m worth of talent over the past 4 years. The really amazing fact is that this sum of money was MORE than ALL OF the teams that WHU played in that European competition COMBINED!!!
9. Moyes has an amazingly concerning history of hand picking players himself that cost the club tens of millions to then play them out of their proffered/ natural positions because they simply do not suite his style of football, so how shocking is that. Numerous players have been purchased and then shown the door in under a year at a MAJOR FINANCIAL LOSS ... Haller, Scamacca, Anderson to name but a few.
10. WHU has one of the best academies in world football at the moment but Moyes simply will not play these players even in cup competitions against lesser teams like Bristol City who funny enough beat them
11. Considering the £500m that Moyes has wasted over the 4 years, he is leaving the club with the smallest and OLDEST squad in the Prem League.
So there you go, just a few FACTS about the useless snake oil salesman David Moyes who for some really weird reason has the football media in his pocket as they constantly patronise the WHU fans with ignorant statements like "Be careful what you wish for" as these clowns don't pay to watch the narcissistic one trick negative pony David Moyes terrible so called football

This needs to be read more widely. The media just ignores that the level of sheer waste and incompetence has been staggering. It was nice to win the ECL but we only faced 2 decent teams and rode our luck. But there was that great Paqueta-Bowen moment....
Moyes can’t have it both ways:
* Moyes took the job while another manager in the job
* Moyes has been saying he will make the decision. So West Ham are in their rights to look for another coach

It's because they detest any clubs outside the "Big 6" having any ambition at all. In their minds, lowly West Ham should be grateful for the top8 finishes and the Europa Conference League cup, and for West Ham fans to want any more than that is something they aren't allowed to do. To them, only fans of clubs owned by Saudi Oil Tycoons are entitled to ambition.
21:11 For all this to come to fruition, one thing needs to happen. Sullivan needs to keep his nose out of the every day running of the club. He cannot have anything to do with it apart from write the cheques.
I was dead against Lopetegui taking over the coaching role, but after listening to Tim, I'm a little more enthused.
You take him on as manager then see how long you last till you want a new manager at the club you support. See how long you guys put up with the low block.

After a run of 4 wins in 24 " its not a good look for West ham " OK, then name the last 10 PL managers to last 4 1/2 years.....
West Ham will need a number of new players to bring into the squad, this needs to be actioned as soon as the season comes to an end. Lopetegui will need new players in for pre season training to get them use to his style and tactics and bedded into the new system, exciting season ahead COY Hammers.

Yeah I think you hit the nail on the head here. A step up for us is 5/6th/7th regularly which is around spurs level. No one is saying we expect to fight for the title. But just that step up from mid table.

CLEARLY, not "a mutual decision" for Moyes "to part ways"! IMO, It was CLEAR, Moyes was NOT gonna be offered a new contract because he'd been running the squad & club like a circus. Moyes has limited skills as a club manager and has traits of a Narcissist. Imo, he was NOT disrespected, he is just deluded. He did the disrespecting. Yes he won the newly invented, low 3rd tier Con Cup. In my opinion, any decent manager who had spent £450 mill should win a 3rd tier Cup. David Moyes knew he was leaving West Ham around 5 weeks prior to his departure. We were on a West Ham Legends Tour at the stadium, the Legend at the time knew he was going. He said a Foreign Manager was being brought in.

Just like to add that because west hams net spend for the last 5 years was 8th it doesnt mean it has to be for the next 5 years ..Also i would think over the last 3 years their net spend maybe higher than 8th (Moyes spent a lot of money) ..its seems they didnt mention west ham having the 2nd biggest crowds in the premier league over the last few seasons

Have had enough with fans and reporters of other clubs lamenting west ham and west ham fans for their 'treatment and lack of respect' for David Moyes. The whole attitude is dripping with condescension. Moyes has been very good for West Ham at times but has also had quite a bad league performance last year and a diabolical one in the second half of this year. In terms of recruitment and organising the squad, the best buys have been lead by Steidten and the ones that haven't been great - JWP and i assume Phillips have been Moyes. Moyes has been on record as saying he likes having a small squad which has been one of our biggest issues with injuries and in europe. West Ham are in the top 20 most valuable teams in the world, they have the right to not accept an old fashioned, stubborn manager who increasingly sees his side get turned over. Also hes out of contract in the summer, of course WH are going to be looking at potential replacements even if Moyes wants to carry on. These same journalists would be complaining at wh for not doing their due diligence if Moyes continued to be awful next year as Ornstein suggested

If Moyes was offered a contract and publicly announces he's might not sign, the club has every right to start searching for a new manager.
Moyes contract will come to an end next week and will not be renewed, what else are the club supposed to do? I don't get this perception Moyes is an exceptional defensive manager, West Ham have conceded more goals than all but the three relegated teams - and still have City to play. The issue is not in attack, the problem is defense and a rebuild is needed. A striker is badly needed, but West Ham had both Haller & Scammacca and both are playing in European competition finals, it was Moyes who had no idea how to play them

Manager doesn’t sign contract, owners decide to be proactive and secure the clubs future and plan transfers for the next season. It’s standard business operating procedure. The club has done nothing wrong. Change the soundtrack you’ll all be touting Ten Hags job whilst he’s still in the job.
Won 4 games in 5 months. He's lucky he's lasted this long. From a possible European place to barely 10th. That run of form is a sacking.
He hasn't acted with integrity, he's never taken responsibility for his crap form, he's turned on the paying fans, he blames everything on others even after the many many embarrassing results he recently blamed that on losing dec rice. Come on, he had over 100 million to invest in the squad with that money. If he was any good we'd have been far more effective. He can only play low block football. Our best chance of climbing the league, is getting good people in the important jobs . We've made a start with getting Steidten . We need to get Sullivan out of the operating structure as much as possible, until hopefully he leaves . Money isn't everything, we need to be much smarter & more efficient, off the pitch .

Moyes hasn’t been disrespected. Pull the other one 😂 Moyes chose not to sign a new contract months ago and delay. So what was our board and co meant to do? Sit around twiddling our thumbs until we get answers? Makes logical sense for our owners and Steidten to have been having these conversations months previous before the announcement in case moyes didn’t re-sign. I’m glad we were prepared for a change.
