@@markwebb7576 anyone that count shootouts is just a hater because the use of this metric is to judge how important players are to their team in open play and penalty shootouts have no effect on that if Bernardo Silva were to score against Lunin it doesn't change how good rodri is at football

I know this is jokes but he really is their best player/the best player in the premier league. Did he have the beat season? I think Foden did but is his impact felt? Hell yeah. They never lose with him there. Control, reliability, passing, goals. Hard to argue he’s the best player in the prem. Want to see him in a Madrid kit next year but he’s from Atleti and they rarely go to the “Real” Madrid.
Extremely dodgy eyebrows though. Really dodgy. He really should try some light eyebrows makeup when he does appearances or tattoo lightly his eyebrows

I think the Haaland case is an extremely interesting one.
He is a victim of his own success, as he is now judged based on the crazy standards he set himself. This also happened to Messi and Ronaldo all the time.
However, Messi and Ronaldo were always in the TOTS, even if they had a lesser season, which is not what happened with Haaland this year. Ithink it's because, subconsciously, people still doubt his talent, and therefore praise him only if he gets a ridicolous amount of goals like he did last year

I do think it’s unjust to not have 1 Liverpool player in this team of the season considering they where in the race until the last period and led the league for the longest time collectively. I know weirdly there wasn’t exactly a stand out with Salah going to afcon and dipping in form, Vvd being so imperious for the first 3/4 of the season then dropping and Macca once settling in and getting endo in the team was outstanding, also Macca’s goal vs Fulham in December deserves a shout for goal of the season

The WSL young player award sort of goes into the young player award debate again. Although she has been slowly fazed in, this is sort of like if you awarded this to Foden last season. She has been around the WSL for a while now.
If it was Rookie of the year, then you'd probably argue that it should go to the two she mentioned or Aggie Beaver-Jones

Disappointed Lewis Miley didn’t get a mention for young Prem player. I don’t think he should have won it, but probably deserved a shout out. Showed incredible maturity coming into a very depleted Newcastle side. Seems Mainoo’s appearance has somewhat overshadowed how much of a generational player Miley looks like he has the potential to get to.

I know this is a British panel and there come's a certain bias with it, but acting like Kane has any claim to the Bundesliga Player of the Season just shows you didn't watch (m)any games. And that isn't even anything against Kane who obviously has generally done well, but Wirtz has been on another level entirely. I'm glad he got called out for it with some incredulity.

As a City supporter, I think it's probably our biggest structural weakness. For a team that has a huge focus on team play, possession, and the squad being able to sub-in/sub-out for injuries and absences, Rodri's suspension really exposed how reliant we are on one player. It's a credit to his brilliance, but also an issue that I think City needs to find a way to address.

@@shanky1751 Agreed, though it will be extremely difficult. Phillips struggled to break into that squad, and he's a quality player. Whoever City gets, that player will have to be okay with a spot on the bench until Rodri either hits a slump or departs. Only then will they see real playing time, and when they do play, they'll have it all to prove.

but so much of what they achieve is down to the team and colective effort with lots of rotation of players. beyond Foden and Rhodri who really stood out, others had good spells but didn't need to be individually amazing for them to win, De Bruyne was obviously excellent when he played but didn't play enough to warrant being in team of the year.
you could argue for Gvaridol (sp?) in at left back but that was really only based on the latter part of the season and would reflect a bit of recency bias.

We can't on one hand say United, Chelsea and Tottenham are not that great and on the other hand call Aston Villa reaching top 4 a bigger achievement than City winning their 4th title in a row after a treble season. Which is it? Villa have been impressive but challengers of top 4 have not. If you're saying it was more impressive than City then why so many Arsenal players in the team of the season? Why no Liverpool players? This podcast didn't land. But that's just my opinion.
