Here's a tip that alot of people dont already know. Get a carbide deburr tool, and inside and out wherever you see a sharp edge thats not a cylinder wall. Take the edge off and make a nice smooth curve. It'll prevent unwanted stress fractures in the aluminum alloy.
Most 01 cobras do, although I heard some of the later ones didn’t get it. You don’t need one at all unless you’re going over 1000 horsepower. No need to change it if you don’t have it
Look for the square pattern in the shallow part of the V. It should be viewable with a bright light. I can see mine on the passenger side behind the water pump. With the WAP block having the diamond pattern, the squares are easy to observe.
Thanks for the overview and top view look at the square pattern. The square pattern is unique to the Teksid block. On the official 2001 Cobra SVT literature, it says, "... cast Aluminum block and heads, with iron cylinder liners and fully counterweighted forged crankshaft."
The data card does say cast aluminum block, yet the wheels are forged aluminum alloy which it what I assumed the block was as well. I always heard that the Teksid blocks were heat treated and somewhat forged and that’s why they were stronger than the WAP aluminum blocks. If you know any different or can expand on that let us all know as we read the comments and learn together. Bottom point is the block is stronger than others.
@FinnellRacing only the 03/04 cobra got the forged short block (rotating assembly)with the block being iron. This block is a 98 cobra block so the only part of the rotating assembly that was forged was the crank. Not the rods or pistons. No Teksid blocks came with forged rods and pistons inside. The Teksid block engines came with forged cranks only if it was a cobra and non forged cranks if it was a Lincoln engine.
All aluminum blocks are heat treated, the Teksid block is cast aluminum as is the WAP block. But the Teksid block has a thicker casting in the valley area so they can handle more H.P. if you don't heat treat a aluminum block it's soft as butter. I worked for Rodeck Aluminum Blocks for 15 years as the tech and sales representative. We made the first forged aluminum block back in 2000. It is the TFX forged block for Top Fuel Racing and its still being made by" AJPE "Alan Johnson Performance Engineering in Santa Maria California. Forged blocks don't have water jackets, so not for street use. They are made from one 400lb aluminum block and machined down to about 150lbs. Without sleeves. About a 180 lbs with sleeves and main caps.

No, it’s not that low. I’ve heard they can hold higher 800+ Mikes garage mentions is I believe
