Have you connected to a server using relationships? How is performance using relationships?
its a little early to give a broad overview but I think the best way to understand this is to connect to your specific server and run the performance recorder as even he same database can perform differently in two separate companies. However broadly, id expect a few things, use extracts where you can as these are nearly always faster than live connections apart from some exceptions, poorly built workbooks will always perform slowly and lastly I think you'll notice improvements in instances where you were already doing something awkward like blending large data sets or doing a join that exploded your data then required an LOD.
Can I use relationships instead of blending heterogeneous datasources?
you can but blending has some benefits in some use cases, especially if you'd like to refresh each data source independently.

Question: Are we able to do that same function using relations
Hi Joe, if you create a data source filter, this happens before the relationship is created in terms of Tableau's order of operations, so the relationship won't be able to be created with the secondary source and will therefore be filtered too. It's difficult to suggest the best approach for you without knowing your specific use case, so feel free to get in touch with us via email and we will try to help.
@@theinformationlab thanks for ur reply. The only solution I was able to find as of yesterday was a custom sql statement.
Issue - build a report that only shows current employees with historical hours charged to a project. Had to use two different data sources.
