Simone is not great because she is black. She is great because she was gifted with a perfect body, and she had fabulous coaching from day one, But the reason Simone is the greastes of all time is because of her discipline, persistence, courage. She sets goals, protects her body both physically and mentally. Simone is great because she works super hard and deserves all of it

Which black women were shamed in team USA? The only big criticism was towards Gabby Douglas and it came from black women posting about how she didn't know how to do her hair.
Since 1992 there hasn't been an 'all white' team USA. Except for 2008...but that squad had a foreign born immigrant in their ranks😅 this year, there are more women of colour on the team than yt ones. Sometimes people just say things that get likes but it's never set in reality and never comes from a place of verifiable facts. It's another phrase that gets yelled down the echo chamber of social media.

She is so compact and powerful: she does tumbling passes and vaults that nobody else can even complete, and she has to hold back so as not to overpower them and OVERrotate.
And you're not "playing the race card": representation matters. If you never see someone like you do something, you can't visualize it for yourself. Gabby, Simone, Suni... they've put faces to lots of dreams.
Simone leads by example in and out of the gym. She's not just a dedicated athlete, she's a mentor, she's opened up the conversation on mental health in sports... she's a role model for anyone who wants to be the best human being they can be.

Former gymnast here...If you see a green arrow/triangle next to the final score, it means that it's in the upper scoring on average for that season. Kinda like a stop light bc you'll also see yellow and red. The "difficulty" score will change based on how had the moves are in the routine (they go in with a set difficultly score based on what is expected for them to perform and each gymnast will choose moves to increase this score - it's basically a start value). The "execution" score is how well they perform the routine. It's based of of 10 and points are taken away based on different criteria. Hops/steps on landings, falls, out of bounds, break in form (bent knees, leg separation, balance checks/wobbles, etc). That's the basics of it. It's more complicated than that bc different moves give you different points but yeah.
Simone is on the small side even for a gymnast. She's 4'8". For perspective, the tallest gymnast on this year's Olympic team for the US is 5'2".

This was not her best, but she is still consistently better than any other gymnast because her level of difficulty is so high. That she is able to accomplish all of this at 27, which is old for a competitive gymnast, is remarkable. She does have a tendency to step out of bounds because of how powerful she is at tumbling. She gets so much speed and height. Oh, and she is 4'8" tall! Fantastic reaction! If you want to understand scoring. A basic way to explain it is that they are scored on execution and difficulty. Difficulty is open-ended and based on the skills that gymnasts do. The skills are in the code of points and have a point value assigned to each one. Execution is out of 10.0, and it is based on how the gymnast performs their routine. Flexed feet, less than 180° splits, wobbles, hops on landings, going out of bounds, bent legs, falls, etc. result in deductions. There's a lot of playing with risk vs. reward for gymnasts. You can do more difficult skills, but deductions can make it not worth it to do. So, a gymnast might have less difficulty but higher execution. Simone is one of those who has high difficulty and high execution.

White gal here… dude, have you been living under a rock the last decade or so? Simone Biles is the GOAT! Mary Lou Retton, Shannon Miller, Gabby Douglas - those girls cannot hold a candle to Biles. She takes incredibly dangerous risks (that are sometimes meant for men) and makes it all look so easy. Her knees and ankles are always together, her twists and flips are so tight, and the incredible amount of air beneath her is insane! What can you say about an athlete who has moves named after her? I believe I’m right in saying that one of her moves is rated a J… at first it was rated a G (most difficult) or something, but the degree of difficulty is so insane that the gymnastics committee had to skip a couple of letters to adjust for it. Her layouts are breathtaking and when she nails a wolf turn, it’s a thing of beauty. You are the only person I’ve ever heard of whether black, white, purple or whatever who has not heard of Simone Biles. You do not, however, have to be black to adore her. We all do… her work ethic, her mad skills, her grace & beauty under pressure, and her heart have made her the most decorated gymnast of all time. Look at the leg, butt, and shoulder muscles on her - yeah, she works hard. And yes, she’s only 4’8”. She is truly a work of art.

Simone's backstory - Lifetime did a movie on her. Because the simple truth is it was pure chance that she was noticed as a little girl. I won't talk about the movie so as not to spoil it, but I do recommend watching the movie. Also if you recall - the Doctor that was sexually abusing gymnasts... Well, while it isn't openly talked about and something the girls were under NDA's or lose their spot on the US Team. It is small wonder that many girls on the US Team came and went, when you consider the trauma they were exposed to. Simone herself stepped away from competing for 2 years with mental health, and what gymnasts call 'the twisties'. During that time she got married to her NFL playing hubby, so someone that understands that passion and drive that pushes her. You will see him throughout videos of her comeback competitions.

About the tumbling, I quit competing/gymnastics when I hit 5’6. It definitely isn’t made in favor of tall women. I’d completely ruined my knees and shoulders by the time I was in my mid teens. I’m amazed with Simon bc she was allegedly in a lot of pain while competing n still did beautifully

I admire great athletes no matter their culture and Gabby Douglas and Simone are great role models for everyone but especially black girls who want to compete in a sport that had a lot of ingrained racism not so long ago. These role models are even better when they are also good people. I even admit as a white guy that I might favor a white athlete in sports where we aren't often represented at elite levels such as track and field or basketball.

Simone has 2 vaults in her name no other woman has competed. A beam dismount in her name no one on earth can currently do. 2 moves on floor in her name, the 2nd one no woman has ever done in competition. In every All Around competition she has participated in since 2013 Worlds she has won. Watching her once is good but it's hard to REALLY understand until you look at her long term accomplishments. She gets credit but I think because people don't follow gymnastics they don't realize just how incredible she actually is.

OK for scoring. Anything in the mid to upper 14s is good. Anything in the 15s is very good to upper 15s. Great. Anything over 16 is amazing and anything in the 17’s or above is earth shattering nobody else in the world can do it. Also, this is not her at her best. Athletes like this train to peak at specific competitions so she’s training to be in peak form by Paris. As for racism in gymnastics, it is still very prevalent. An Irish gymnast last year was not given a medal because of the color of her skin. Simone actually stepped in. Absolutely outrageous.

Yes, Simone is very small. She is only 4 ft. 8 in. She and Kerri Strug are the two shortest to ever represent the US in the Olympics. In general, though, gymnasts need to be short (the majority of female gymnasts are under 5 ft. 2 in.) because shorter people are more aerodynamic. They have lesser inertia and a lower center of gravity, which all makes it much easier for them to jump higher, flip, and tumble with more precision and ease and have a much more stable landing since they are closer to the ground than a tall person.

  • @iretsia5275
    @iretsia5275 Месяц назад

I completely agree with what you said about it being amazing what the body can do. That's one of the main reasons I follow gymnastics. I enjoy watching other sports too, so no disrespect to them, but gymnastics hits different. Most people can run and most people can catch a ball, even though some are definitely better than others. Most people cannot do what these gymnasts do. Fyi, men's gymnastics has different events, so you should check some of them out too. USA hasn't really had any men who can win at a global level in a decade or two, so maybe check out some of the other countries' men lol.
I haven't read the comments, so idk what else has already been covered. There are 3 parts to a modern gymnastics score at the pro/elite (not college) level: the "start value," which is sort of like bonus points based on the difficulty of what you're doing; the execution scores, which measures how well you did it; and the total score, which is a combo of the other 2. The execution score starts at 10 and gets reduced for each issue the judges see, whereas the start value starts at 0 and goes up for each added element. So a score of 10 or lower at this level (again, college is different) means something has gone very wrong. Most of the start values at the Olympics will probably be somewhere between a 4.5 and a 5.9, so scores of 14 and 15 are pretty solid.
Simone Biles is the GOAT because, as you noticed, she's tiny at 4'8", but she's insanely powerful in ways that defy logic. When it comes to vaults and tumbling, you're limited in how many twists and flips you can do and still land safely by how high you go into the air and how long you stay there. You can't keep flipping an inch from the ground and hope for the best. Since she's so tiny, you wouldn't expect her to get much air, but she gets more air than basically any other woman, giving her time to just PACK her routines with moves and crank up the difficulty and start values. There's a vault called the Yurchenko Double Pike, and men have competed it in the past with their bigger bodies, but Simone is the first woman to ever land it in competition, because no other woman has been able to get air like this. Because of the issues with air time and how many movements she's trying to fit into just a few seconds, doing things no other woman can do, you would expect her to be really straining and just barely getting into landing position in time to land safely, but she actually has the opposite problem. Because she's so weirdly strong and powerful, she actually OVERPOWERS and OVER-ROTATES a lot of her vaults and tumbling. Like, she's already doing things no other woman can do, and she has to HOLD HERSELF BACK from doing more. Because of this insanity, she has start values above a 6, and I don't think that was a thing before Simone. You may see 1 or 2 others at the Olympics above a 6, but that's because everyone has been chasing her for years now. Gymnastics scores are decimals instead of whole numbers because the execution deductions mostly happen in tenths, so a lot of times you'll see a winner ahead by only tenths, hundredths, or even thousandths of a point, but Simone's start values are so high that she can be sloppy on balance beam, over-rotate her vault, and still beat 2nd place by 2 full points.
She created a move (and could pull it off btw) that was so dangerous the international judges intentionally gave it a low start value so that no one would ever think the points were worth the danger of trying to do it in competition. I think Simone did it once just to make sure it was named after her (always named after the first to successfully do it in international competition - she has at least 2 named after her now), and then she went back to her good start values.

Yes you are right, there is still racism in the world and always will be cause there are bad people in the human race. But also remember, that racism happens to all kinds of people and even to whyte people today. I'm gay and have faced hatred all my life. But i wish we would work more on just celebrating all of us together! We all LOVE Simone and 90% of gymnastixs fans are whyte. Know what I'm trying to say? I understand she is a role model for black girls, but shes also a role model for ALL GIRLS. literally every younger gymnast says that Simone was their inspiration for soing the sport. Idk exactly what I'm trying to say lol. I just wish peace and love for everyone, no cap.

It is worth mentioning that she’s a black woman, because until about 10 years ago, this was a very white-dominated sport in America. Mostly because it’s basically a rich persons sport. It costs upwards of $15k a year for elite gymnastics training, so the income gap excluded a lot of black and brown from reaching the higher levels. And because of that, even among the black and brown who could afford it, there wasn’t much interest because it was perceived as a “white sport”.
But now, first with Gabby Douglass winning the highest medal in her Olympics, and then with Simone bursting on to the scene the following year doing skills that put her head and shoulders above ANY female champion before her, there is a lot of interest in gymnastics from black and brown people, and more of them are making it to the elite levels with the income gap finally closing.

Of all her accolades, all the medals. Her greatest moment in my opinion was last Olympics when she took her vault and UT didn't go well. She was loosing her place in the air. I think she ran again and fell. She ended up ING herself out of the rest of the rotations because of something they call the twisties. While rotating she wA losing her place in the rotation, not knowing wher she was in the twist, so effecting the safety of the pass. Too much can go wrong at speed ND if her head isn't in it she could get hurt.
