    So wild to see that chair and his "body fluids" still so visible 157 years later. 😳

    • @ganymededarling
      @ganymededarling Год назад +7

      It's not his body fluids. It's hair product (pomade) from workers who sat in the chair during their breaks in the 50s when it was stored in a warehouse

      The stains on the seat are water damage.

      @@ganymededarlingEven though the stain on the top of the chair is likely oil or pomade, there absolutely has to be blood from Lincoln somewhere on that chair. There is confirmed blood on it, but they're unable to confirm it's Lincoln's. But given the fact he was shot IN the chair by a bullet, I guarantee his blood is somewhere in there.

    The richness of your work only becomes more palpable with each video. Your thoughtful comments speak to your appreciation of these historical items. I know you will continue to aim high and be an instrument of service. At the end of the day, all that matters is to be of service to those around you and offer to the world what you want the world to offer to you. Thank you again for bringing such great work to the world.

    Wonderful, and moving video, Chris. I appreciate the shorter episodes where there are a great many "features", for it's easier to focus and take in the significance of the piece. Thanks for your ongoing work and enlightenment.

    My father was born in Detroit in 1920 . This chair had been there in Greenfield Village since he was a boy . Then, it was not encased and you could actually touch it .People started collecting ”souvenirs”of the threads from the arms . That is why the arms are so threadbare . By 1962 , the first time I saw it it was displayed in a large glass cube . I like the new display . I always thought that once the FordTheater in Washington was restored in the 1970’s that it should have been returned to it’s historic place in the Presidential Box . My parents were President Lincoln “enthusiasts” and took us to the site of every home occupied by the President from his birthplace in Kentucky to his tomb in Illinois .

    Lincoln rockers were parlor rockers mass produced in the 1850's. Extremely comfortable. Many of these chairs were set in theatres and opera houses all over America way before Lincoln was sitting in one the night of his murder. They became so popular after the assassination that they were produced in the 1,000's as replicas in memorial.
    My family owns one that came from an Opera House in Poughkeepsie, NY. These rockers are very comfortable. Had excellent back support; you could sit in one for hours on end. It still survives to this day. New upholstery recovered with fabric of the era and some wood framing.
    replaced. However, it's still in use every day.

    I’ve been to the theater and the house he was taken to across the street and they had the bed he was in when he died and I think this chair was there at the time. Such a crazy thing to see and think about. I didn’t expect everything to be in such good condition. I used to live 5 min from the barn John Wilkes Booth would’ve went to as well and seen some of the buildings that are still standing

    I have a feeling there were a lot of Democrats in congress who conspired in this, perhaps a few Republicans too. I’m also greatly surprised that this chair wasn’t lost to time, and all the different owners who would of cared for it, and taking care of it and not destroying it, or cut into smaller pieces to be sold off.

    The interesting thing is the chair is entirely worn thread bare. Was the chair in this condition when he was sitting in it? Did exposure just make the chair fabric disappear? I realize this chair is over 160 years old, but what caused it to wear so thin?

    When I was 5yrs old my kindergarten class went on a field trip to Greenfield Village. I stood by the chair gazing upon it ever so carefully. Something came over me I suddenly began to feel very emotional. My teacher told me to come on. I wouldn't move a step I didn't want to move away from the chair. The teacher asked over & over to come along but, I wouldn't move at all. Finally she had to grab my hand to force me leave away from the chair. 5 years later my mom's sister came to live with us. Shortly after coming she passed away. I my mom's brother came from Alabama to attend the funeral. My mom told my brothers & I to come & meet our uncle. We were too shy to come & meet him so I took peep out the door to look at him. As soon as I saw him I started laughing real hard. My brothers asked me why was I laughing & did our uncle look strange. I said he looks just like Abraham Lincoln. So when I was in my 20's I had to have surgery.The doctor & the intern told me that after they give me a shot that I would be sleep for an hour. In the corner of the operating room I saw Tad Lincoln he stood there for about 3 minutes & disappeared. The doctor left the operating room but the intern stayed I told him that I saw Tad Lincoln standing in the corner. After the surgery the intern asked did I remember telling him that I saw Tad Lincoln I answered yes. My mom was standing next to her mother when her mother was shot in the neck she ran to the back of the house to the back porch & her head came off. This happened before I was born. I saw pictures of my grandmother Sallie, she was pretty she looked just like a female Tad Lincoln. 3 yrs ago right before my mom died she told me was related to Abraham Lincoln. I have always loved looking at Tad Lincoln's photos.

      We don't. The story of Lincoln isn't genuine so I wouldn't doubt this chair being at multiple places all saying it's his chair. I've seen 3 different versions of the car Bonnie and Clyde were shot in. I still love this channel though I just don't like how history is twisted so often from the truth.
