I am really enjoying seeing so many places I know in this remote stretch between Kansas and Colorado. You actually walked by my daughter's ranch south of holly and past my place near John Martin's Reservoir. I just found you, or I would have offered to be a trail angel. Good luck, hikers.
I followed you guys from the Okeefenokee Swamp down the Suwanee River to the coast...then, I got cancer. Now, after a couple of years of surgery & treatments, it's gone & I'm following this crazy trip you guys are doing. Happy trails ! ❤😊
Happy you both had a zero day finally! Love your videos and of course the infectious laughter between you two. You are an amazing couple! I know when Taters goes back to work we will all be depressed 😢. So let’s enjoy as much as we can your adventures together. Matt you won’t be alone. We will be there to enjoy your conversation with your self and us as you adventure forever onward!🌎🥾🥾🏜️🌳🏔️🌾👍❤️
I grew up in central/ western Kansas and moved out 20+ years ago. I found this channel right as you crossed into Kansas and haven’t missed an episode of Kansas. Thanks for bring back great memories of Kansas and reminding me why I never moved back.
I really enjoy the AI illustrations you have included in the videos. They always make me smile and even laugh out loud, very well done. Thanks and good luck, please stay safe.
They make Jen laugh and are far less likely to get us threatened by the French for using some random photo for 5 seconds pulled off google. Which granted hasn’t happened again for almost 3 years now. But I’m glad some folks appreciate them since they appeal to my sense of humor. The current online state seems to be market everything as AI + anything marketed as AI people hate and will scream at you in comments over…
I passed you at 17:50 or so. Just before the road turned north and the state line. Driving a red ford pickup. Just a mile back I could have shown you a short cut which would have saved a couple miles. Lived south of Holly all my life. When you turned north on the pavement to go into Holly, my house is4 miles south. Thought I should have stopped and gave you water but had forgotten to restock my cooler that day.
Syracuse is IN the Mountain Time Zone. There are still four Kansas counties in the Mountain zone. It used to be way more. The line in the 1960s was as far east as Dodge City.
Just watched where you first went into Eastern KS ,KC metro area ,what I like about western Ks no people wild life and night skies are world class milky way all the way ! A trick they did in the Army during training with HOT conditions you soak your clothes that cools your whole body down then keep on trucking .
Been following since midOhioish and routinely checking Google Earth along the way. Saw diner in Holly “Jack and Wanda’s Tasty Horse” 😮 🐎 on closer inspection it’s actually Tasty “House” 😅
A few audio book recommendations: Unbroken (Louis Zamperini, olympian, WWII pow) A Life in Parts (Bryan Cranston) Grandma Gatewood's Walk Undaunted Courage (about Lewis&Clark expedition) and two classics surprisingly good on audio, Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera
I appreciate the suggestions but I pretty much always fail to stick to non fiction books when I’m hiking. I’m far more an epic scifi / fantasy sort of guy
Weather breaks just as you leave the State of the Portals to Hell. Coincidence? I don't think so! Good timing and onwards towards the mountains. Hike on! Tortoise
Matt and Taters 👍👍👍👍for sticking to the red line that's the only way to complete the ADT. By deviating from the red line you are walking cross country but not completing the ADT. It's still a major accomplishment just not the ADT. I like to use this example for slackpacking, yellow blazing and bypassing hard sections. Suppose you are running the Boston marathon and skip Heartbreak hill taking an easier route but still run 26.2 miles. At the end of the race you would be disqualified for not staying on the designated route. 😎✌
Exactly! Cheating has unfortunately become the norm in thru hiking these days. There are hundreds of people that claim to have completed the pct, cdt, at ect that absolutely did no such thing.
It must be so satisfying to have a solid day of walking, decide to hit up a B&B for a zero, and then watch the weather turn sour from the comfort of your rental.
Stumbled onto this and binge watched from the McPherson (where I'm at work) video and the Colorado state line. As a life-long Kansas resident, I wouldn't even consider walking across the state, but I also know that it grows on you after a couple decades. Perhaps you both just walked too quickly? lol
Your adventure at the Kansas-Colorado border is truly remarkable! It's inspiring to see how you embrace every moment of your American discovery journey, finding joy and fulfillment in every experience. Your enthusiasm and resilience are contagious, making your journey a source of inspiration for others. And I am Floating Village Life, Hit follow and let's explore together!
I had been following Itchy Boots during motorcycle rides around the world currently paused due to injuries), but she'd always end her videos with, "Don't forget to like and subscribe." It was usually at this point that I would finally hit the "Like" button, because I had forgotten. I also just realized that I had been forgetting to hit Your "Like" button. Can't tell you how many I've missed. Any chance you could add that reminder at the end of your videos...if you remember? Glad you two made it to Colorado. Stay safe out there.
I really appreciate the sentiment but I have this strong irrational hatred of that statement to the point I don’t think I could stomach saying it much less editing it. I think it’s just my gut dislike of anything reminiscent of the influencer style videos. Also the folks that bring out videos might be driven crazy…

Those green balls that have bumps on them like oranges are hedge apples, grown on hedge trees. People sometimes use them to keep crickets out of their homes. Definitely not edible.

I'm afraid I'm stuck here. But sometimes you just "gotta get the heck out of Dodge"!
You went from aprox 1000 ft elevation to 3500 ft elevation so technically you were walking uphill all the way.
But they were goatstepping…

Loved the donkeys in the field with the cows. They're coyote and dog protection. Donkeys and mules hate dogs and coyotes. They will attack them.
Thanks, great fun. ✌🏻👊🏼

Mountain Time Zone actually includes Syracuse, Hamilton County Kansas. You've been on MDT since about Kendall. Yeah, it's confusing!
Yea, we noticed. I was joking about all the time zone madness back in Indiana. At least this wasn’t that bad!
Hey Y'all! Glad you are under a real roof for the storm. Enjoy a day to recharge. I will soon miss Taters giggles.
"Yay! We're out of Kansas!" eastern Colorado is just more Kansas lol
How fun! I’d love to do what you’re doing! Stay safe and much love to you ❤😊

Sasnak was I ere I saw Kansas. Surely to conquer the mountains and the World after all the prairie masochism.
Hope you had a great zero day, hike on to San Francisco.

I might have been at the window chanting “Tor-na-do tor-na-doh” for a bit there…
You get to enjoy so much but even at 30 miles a day, it takes some time!!
👢you put your old worn out boots on top of the wooden fence posts to protect them from the rain and extend post life👍🏼👌🏼🥸
Interesting, that’s a new one
I always thought that the Arkansas river runs underground in kansas always dry seems.
there is a lot of history in the reason it is dry. Kansas and Colorado were in court over water rights off and on for over 100 years.
And wait, wait, wait for the B-Roll 🤣
Taters for Supreme Commander of the Okayish Thru Hikers!

You walked by Cousin Eddies house by Coolidge, ks. The residents are not nice tho and will scream at you
Actually they filmed that just east of Pueblo. And the guy who lives there is an ass.
Actually a small amount of Kansas is in the Mountain time zone. Syracuse is very close to where the time zone switches.
The lack of public land in KS is probably the worst part of living here. There are upsides though.

Don't you just loves the smell of a smaller grocery store?
c'mon man, Riverside is now the 951 -- 909 is San Murderdino

Do the Great Plains Trail next. Make Taters do it with you. It'll be funny.
Tins of King Oscar sardines. Real super food. Portable, indestructible and loaded with vital nutrients.
Yea, I think I’ll choose starvation over that…
Telephone poles. Endless telephone poles.
This episode is also known as Tater's apology to the fine folks of Kansas.
I’m surprised you had a cell signal at all at your campsite.
It has been rare we’ve been out of cell coverage of some sort this entire trip

Day 124. “Sleeping” and eating…
Give Jen Bacon. It's the best intro drug to meat I know.
Mountain time zone starts about 2 countes east of CO.
Did Taters OD on ice cream?
Not tornado season
Taters, You are not in Kansas anymore!!!...then, you are off to ss your job!!!!!!!!
Yrs you DID pick the flatest path across the state with the least amount of hills.
exactly walk on old rail lines and then follow the river valley it is going to be flat
The old Sante Fe trail
well, there is about 1km of elevation gain going from east to west in Kansas. flat, but a slightly tilted flat
Walking across that Crappy state without self medicating yourselves..impressive
I couldn't stand to be around someone who giggles all the time.
We all have our crosses to bear…
