Book Clarisse is physically intimidating and freakishly aggressive. Show Clarisse is like a wild animal waiting for her prey to slip up so she can rip them apart. Movie Clarisse is like if Anna from Frozen was trying and failing to be scary.
I loved her scream after Percy broke her spear. 10/10 acting

Im enjoying it but the dialogue is generic if rick make a chinese pantheon series i might be interested for me i would like it if sun wu kong is the main protagonist but he is reincarnated in the modern day and didnt complete journey to west he died on purpose but in order to be reborn he has to enter the body of women thats compatible and has a lot of spirit energy so he manage to enter the body of this k pop or j pop idol why j pop or k pop is because for comedic porpuses even though he is in their Chinese pantheon he isnt even chinese not that hes chinese to begin with he was a monkey he enters this idols body and becomes her child this idol is a young girl who is only 20 years old she has never been in a relationship but is now pregnant with sun even though sun just wanted to use her to be reborn she still chooses to keep him and love him even though she has no idea whats going on flash forward 13 years later sun is a teenager abd yes his name is still sun wukong and he has all his memeories from his previous life but he is still weak because he is now a human and people think he is weird for saying he is the great sage equal to heaven but always get his ass handed to him by bullys.His personality is that he is arragont and mischievous but he kind because of how he was raised,at this point of the story the only person that he care about is his mom and one of the drama would be what would happen if he told her what he did to her,would she still love him.one day his mom went missing when he went home from school and a demon attack him but he was safe by his one friend who was (the son of a demon or god or something,i dont know what)he is a quiet kid who didnt stand out but because sun accidentally save him from being bullied and they now they bully sun instead if him even though sun was arrogant and mischievous he never blame him and said "those weaklings could never beat me im the monkey king"even though they beat him up almost everyday he befriended him even though he think hes weird,sun didn't know who he was but he found out now.he guided sun to this school in the spirit realm for people like him because many demons and god children and other beings here as well.flash forward again after getting to know the school and meet some wacky characters sun duel with one of the strongest character in school and after getting beat up and almost losehe finally awaken his powers and gets his staff and fights the guy he was overpowering him for awhile but still lose because he ran out of magic or something and was knocked out.sun later found out because he is human now he has to train hard to become strong mentally and physically so through out the story he will go through a lot of hardships and grow both in strength and character and this first book is about saving his mother same as percy and something that has to do with Chinese mythology that threatens the world if you have a better idea tell me i would love to hear it.he also has a love interest this serious no nonsense girl who is pretty zen but gets angry at sun for always annoying her her only friend is the guy that beat sun and he likes her she is the daughter of the jed emperor throughout the series she becomes more friendly and playful even though sun and her has a fremies relationship at first and in ine the book's she admits to sun that she likes him and that causes a funny situation where this girl even though serious would try to flirt with him and sun wouldn't know how to react to her advances.what do you think and if some people are feeling weird about sun basically an adult in a kids body dont think about it too much remember the movie big

They did Luke and everyone in camp pretty good in terms of characterization and capture of the flag scenes because they are so serious which I love
Everybody was great in this episode of course but for me the highlight was Jason Mantzoukas as Mr D /Dionysus he was hilarious as this character and Jason Mantzoukas is always great at playing an asshole,he played one in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, he's playing one in Invincible , he played a psychotic one in the Twisted Metal show and now he's playing another in this show 😂

Same! They had it in the movies but deleted it. Literally every deleted scene from the movies was more accurate to the books than the final product lol. I like the show so far though it felt a little rushed but I'm sure that's because they're limited to 8 episodes and wanna get to the quest and big battle sequences.

Headcanon: Chris Rodriguez knows about a lot of minor gods because his own father, an Olympian never claimed him and so he researched all others
Was so awesome when Percy broke Clarisse's spear, I was cheering him on the whole Capture The Flag scene. And the moment we'd all been waiting for, the claiming was EPIC! I loved seeing Grover meet with the elders, and then they tell him that Sally is alive, and surprise surprise, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover have to go to the Underworld.
Those kids really had great fighting skill with the swords and spears in the scene! Makes me very excited to know bigger fights scenes in the future will be done well with how good these fights have been!

Luke saying “let her rip” as a nod to the name of the sword was genius
I love how the quest is a personal one for Percy. He is not going to save his father, but his mother. It fits the whole set up they made at the first ep with their relationship.
I love how book accurate it is and how they don’t shy away from Percy’s feelings of abandonment by his father I’m really only seeing himself as his mother son when I first read the books that was very interesting to me I was right at the age where I started to realize not everyone’s family is as happy as mine
I scene where Percy assumes Luke is doing to pick on him, because it what he’s used to is so sad considering what’s gonna happen in the finale
This show is actually retaining the soul of the book. It is not necessary that all the scenes in the book should be recreated. What is more important is conveying the message of the book. I loved both the reactions you did. ❤
the first episode is great, but I think the second one is my favorite of the two, I just love the chemistry between all the characters, Annabeth is the badass queen she is, Clarisse is properly terrifying, Mr. D made me laugh so much... basically this episode has everything and I cannot wait to see how it goes from here ^^
Personally while I think the actors did fine some of the lines were a bit off not to mention they are trying too hard to make annabeth cool like Luke states she is the best warrior at camp but Luke himself is the best Swordsman in the last century so it just seems weird.

Ah I loved these episodes so much! Clarisse felt like a modern mean girl + the physicality of an Ares kid. And I loved that we saw Luke and Percy become friends. The writers knew they were stabbing us when they had Percy say he thinks he's made some good friends here aH. Also!! That sinister music when Luke was shown, I loved that little detail so much. I wonder if it will form part of his own theme in the music? I have so many thoughts and made my own discussion video to avoid yelling at all my friends haha.

It’s really good so far, however, there was not enough Annabeth in the episode. We didn’t get to know her enough here. She should have given Percy the camp tour like in the book.
I actually really like the change! It gave us a chance to actually meet Luke, if they kept that with the time restraints we’d barely get anything from him, but with the chance we get a lot more from him and will get to meet Annabeth throughout the quest

I think this adaptation is wayyyyyy better than the movies but the first two episodes mainly the second felt very rushed and forced and I understand they are pushing to the quest but it made everything feel off pace. Idk if anyone else is feeling that.

@@penguin50279that’s the problem. we used to get 26-30 episode seasons as the norm, that was when characters and worlds felt fleshed out. Now its all about maximizing profits, which means 8 fucking episodes a season, which is nowhere near enough to get to know characters well, explore the world enough to make it feel real, and get the whole plot done. It’s a great show so far, it would be much better if they would make a real full season instead of the bullshit handful of episodes the execs call a season nowadays

Last scene was a little bit rushed. I wanted to feel sad about percy having to pack up his stuff where he just made friends and enter the creepy and lonely poseidon cabin. And then he was thrown into a quest and the way they exposition dumped the next goal of the shows was just a little too fast. But it’s my only nitpick with the whole show so far

This is the third time watching your reviews. Not sure why I keep coming back, wait yes I do, I truly enjoy your response to the show. Can't wait for season two.
Them wanting Grover to keep it from percy (specifically after they want him on the quest) doesn't make sense to me unless they wanted Grover to have the chance to redeem his friendship with percy by going against them which would be masterful manipulation
I feel it was definitely something Chiron and Mr D thought of especially due to that thing he told Grover about the truth
if Percy was told about it earlier he might've already left in fury without being claimed, without Annabeth, Grover and without knowing about the quest

honestly, when I first saw the trailer, I was sad bc it wasn't what I imagined. but now, watching it, I prefer it that way. I like having my nostalgic memories of the books and fan art and fanfics, and I also want to see more of this new but also familiar world. it wouldn't be the same for me if it was exactly what I imagined, but with this, I'm addicted
Clarisse has got like... Big chin energy. Dunno how to explain without the actual visual, but it's as if she could punch you with her chin

I had been trying to figure out why I wasn't loving the portrayal of Annabeth so far and it finally hit me- SHE'S SO COOL AROUND LUKE!? I remember she is supposed to be hyperventilating and absolutely obvious about crushing on him, and blushing when she gets called out. I think this episode has her a bittttt too badass without a little bit of her vulnerability poking through. I haven't seen the rest of the released episodes yet but I do hope they bring that aspect out in her.

half of annabeth's lines just consist of, *shrug* "yes"
I really am enjoying this series. Very faithful. Here are my gripes/nitpicks so far:
- Gabe. Tim acts as him very well, but his look isn't what I pictured. He looks a bit too clean, not smelly enough.
- Clarisse. Dior is not a bad actress, but I wished she was a bit brutish. She felt very constrained, not wild. Plus, I wished they had the 3 Ares kids being swept out of the bathroom rather than just across the room. Lol
- Chiron looks good, for the most part, but when Percy first sees him in the daylight, the cgi and green screen are very noticeable. Plus, I wanted to see Chiron get out of his wheelchair, revealing himself like in the book, but I guess that was hard to visualize on screen.
- I wanted to see a scene with Percy and Luke sword training. See some of that training that will pay off for Percy's fight with Ares.
Yeah I felt Percy is too good at sword fighting. The way he is fighting, I felt maybe if he was given that spurt of energy from being near water and they showed that then I’d buy it but it doesn’t make sense he’s this good this fast. I’m not going to call him a male Mary sue but he needed that training.
I like clarisse’s portrayal but I think I wanted to see her get thrown out of the bathroom too.
I don’t like Annabeth yet. Not at all how I picture her (and not just that she isn’t Caucasian and blonde. She feels stiff and I feel like the audiobook narrator gave her a vulnerability that was a contrast to her spunk)
I am a little disappointed in the look of camp halfblood. I feel they could’ve added more to the landscape. The dining hall is minuscule. The woods feel tiny.

I don't like how he didn't kick their asses in capture the flag at the end and no hellhound either, except that pretty good adaptation, and his sarcastic side is missing a little bit.
I feel like Percy did kinda kick their butts though, no? Obv not to the extent of his book counterpart, but Percy still put up a good fight imo. After that one Ares kid sliced him on his forearm, he didn't get hit for the rest of the fight. No disrespect ofc, I just wanted to share my thoughts as well
I really like how he did it without needing a buff from the water as Percy is really creative in battle and the show highlighted that pretty well compared to how it played out in the book.
Because the Ares cabin doesn't need to be "Worfed" Percy is a bit too much of a Gary Stu in the books.
Their are really lucky percy never pulled a luke after all this man really had to fight a experienced child of aerys out the gate more then one and his own teammates used him as bait yet bro still let her on the quest and tried to get along with her mans a champ.
The one rhing i notice while watching the kids extra havent said any words and its weirdddd 😅
One thing that I had an issue was that there was nearly no chemistry between Percy and Annabeth. Now admittedly, in the books, Percy and Annabeth weren’t exactly best friends when they first met, but by the time the capture the flag game happened, they at least had mutual respect. In the show, it just feels like Annabeth is just using him to win, but otherwise thinks of him as a bumbling incompetent idiot.
Another problem I had was the way Annabeth already knew Percy was the son of Poseidon? Like she just pushed him into the water as if she already knew. And when he was claimed, she wasn’t even surprised. In the books, not even she knew. She just figured it out by noticing that he healed his wounds when he stepped into the water. Also they completely left out the hellhound that attacked him, which is the whole reason why they sent him on the quest. The quest in the show just seems to come out of nowhere.
I personally like what the show did. I think it made MUCH more sense for Annabeth to know because she saw him manipulate water from the toilet. I would expect someone as smart as Annabeth to figure it out.
I do agree with the hellhound scene, it would have been cool to see that. However, I can understand why they cut it out. Plus I think that an imminent war between the gods is still a very good reason to go on a quest by itself.
there wasn’t chemistry and she respected him but she didn’t know the guy and he didn’t know her. Them having mutual respect doesn’t have to be stated but when you barely know a person it’s always gonna be awkward😭 and what chemistry would you expect from kids realistically
You gotta remember in the books Percy drenched Annabeth in toilet water. Personally if someone drenched me in toilet water I don’t start to respect them.
Annabeth hated Percy during capture the flag in the books, and used him as bait in the books aswell. To me when they finally start respecting each other is when they work together in the Medusa fight, and fully respect each other by the time they get to LA.

@@silpatel7921fair point. But I should point out the Percy being the son of Poseidon isn’t treated as big of a deal as in the books. Like he’s literally born out of a broken pact by the gods and nobody bats an eye. Nobody is shocked, worried, not even concerned of what this might mean.

I personally don't like this version of Clarisse. @dustspeck897 said that the book version is a lot more aggressive than the show version and I agree. I've trained with Bo Staff/Spear/Trident type weapons and Clarisse's use of the spear is really off.

Well its better than the two abismal movies, but they still managed to butcher some key moments.
Im enjoying it but the dialogue is generic if rick make a chinese pantheon series i might be interested for me i would like it if sun wu kong is the main protagonist but he is reincarnated in the modern day and didnt complete journey to west he died on purpose but in order to be reborn he has to enter the body of women thats compatible and has a lot of spirit energy so he manage to enter the body of this k pop or j pop idol why j pop or k pop is because for comedic porpuses even though he is in their Chinese pantheon he isnt even chinese not that hes chinese to begin with he was a monkey he enters this idols body and becomes her child this idol is a young girl who is only 20 years old she has never been in a relationship but is now pregnant with sun even though sun just wanted to use her to be reborn she still chooses to keep him and love him even though she has no idea whats going on flash forward 13 years later sun is a teenager abd yes his name is still sun wukong and he has all his memeories from his previous life but he is still weak because he is now a human and people think he is weird for saying he is the great sage equal to heaven but always get his ass handed to him by bullys.His personality is that he is arragont and mischievous but he kind because of how he was raised,at this point of the story the only person that he care about is his mom and one of the drama would be what would happen if he told her what he did to her,would she still love him.one day his mom went missing when he went home from school and a demon attack him but he was safe by his one friend who was (the son of a demon or god or something,i dont know what)he is a quiet kid who didnt stand out but because sun accidentally save him from being bullied and they now they bully sun instead if him even though sun was arrogant and mischievous he never blame him and said "those weaklings could never beat me im the monkey king"even though they beat him up almost everyday he befriended him even though he think hes weird,sun didn't know who he was but he found out now.he guided sun to this school in the spirit realm for people like him because many demons and god children and other beings here as well.flash forward again after getting to know the school and meet some wacky characters sun duel with one of the strongest character in school and after getting beat up and almost losehe finally awaken his powers and gets his staff and fights the guy he was overpowering him for awhile but still lose because he ran out of magic or something and was knocked out.sun later found out because he is human now he has to train hard to become strong mentally and physically so through out the story he will go through a lot of hardships and grow both in strength and character and this first book is about saving his mother same as percy and something that has to do with Chinese mythology that threatens the world if you have a better idea tell me i would love to hear it.he also has a love interest this serious no nonsense girl who is pretty zen but gets angry at sun for always annoying her her only friend is the guy that beat sun and he likes her she is the daughter of the jed emperor throughout the series she becomes more friendly and playful even though sun and her has a fremies relationship at first and in ine the book's she admits to sun that she likes him and that causes a funny situation where this girl even though serious would try to flirt with him and sun wouldn't know how to react to her advances.what do you think and if some people are feeling weird about sun basically an adult in a kids body dont think about it too much remember the movie big
The actors playing Luke and Clarisse are by far the most talented out of all the kids. Walker Scobell is cool, but he feels a bit stiff to me at times. Like he doesn't really react.
Give the kid a break: his mom just died, he’s learned that his dad is alive and wants nothing to with him, and his best friend who betrayed him is a half goat and has been keeping secrets, all in the span of 24 hours.
Remember that book Percy is all “the world shouldn’t look beautiful because my mom is dead” the entire book

I'm not feeling this, I've read the books plenty of times but the characters feel...different. I like Mr.D but the other characters just feel awkward and not what I expected.
Unpopular opinion, I dislike the first two episodes, I feel like they could have had better action choices, and change/kept scenes. I also don't like how gabe is.
