  • Positive affirmations are incredibly powerful tools that I used to achieve a lifelong goal of becoming an Olympian. In this video I not only explain what positive affirmations are but how you can supercharge them to make them actionable and be much more effective.

A great wrestling coach, Ken Chertow, said "Train like a champion. So, when you become one; you always were one." That mindset has had a huge impact on my life.

I trained with you about a year ago and you taught me a bit about this. At the end of my session, you had me empty my quiver into the target. Then you asked me what I saw.
I had five arrows near the center and one arrow in the lower right corner.
I responded, "Man, that one arrow in the corner."
You asked me to look at the target again and tell you what I saw. Again I said, "That one arrow in the corner."
Then you taught me that if we focus on the mistakes we make, we reinforce making those mistakes. So, instead of looking at the one bad arrow, focus on what I did right with the other five. And, when I do have a bad arrow, don't say, "I did X wrong." but instead say, "Next time, I have to do X correctly."
    Changed my mental game completely.

Thanks Jake for another helpful video! I would love it if you did more content about your career. The little story about your tattoo was super interesting, I imagine you've had a lot of experiences like that that can help other archers. I always find it very interesting when you talk about your time as an active professional.

I had my first 70m championship last weekend, after 1 year practicing archery and I was so insecure, I was full on Imposter syndrome, I really need to start practicing this...

You're not alone! Same story for me, I had only shot 4 times at 70m before my first tournament last week as well, and was on a target with 3 other archers doing 630-640 scores / 720, all shooting for 8-10+ years. I was stressed, unsure of everything, but I made it and ended up doing my best score at 70m yet, even though that week had been the most intensive shooting week I've ever had (shot almost 500 arrows in 5 days, which is a lot for me).

@@gnutix haha that's great!! Congraats on your personal best!! For me it's a great learning experience, it's raining (something very rare where I live, a very desertic area) and I was next to some great archers too.
To add to the stress during the practice rounds I missed 3 arrows on a single round. Luckily those were the only 3 on the entire match 😅

Did you create that t-shirt, and might it have been inspired by a certain song? :) very useful video, came across your channel yesterday and it's a goldmine of helpful information, since I just recently joined my local archery club. Thank you
edit: just saw the link to your merch. might cop one next paycheck

Great content but please stop changing the camera angle. Its not 'interesting', it's irritating and detracts from what you are saying.

    • @JakeKaminskiArchery

Its actually to cover up cuts and not to be more 'interesting'... May be less of a hard angle?

@@JakeKaminskiArchery I can see your reasoning now. Yes, that might work, at the moment it looks like you're ignoring the viewer and talking to someone behind us. Probably because I'm an old curmudgeon it comes over as rude 🙄. Anyway, I'll say again, love the content which is interesting and informative. Have a good weekend 😁

One nice way to set camera2 is to put it right next to the main camera and zoom in to shoulder-to-head shot or so.
