My local Mini dealership wanted £230 per hour to try and diagnose a sticking front passenger window. Took it to an independent mechanic who after 20 mins said it's a dodgy hall sensor in the window motor.

I can beat that, while working away and unable to take the car to a local independent. my wife took her Audi Q3 for MOT at our local Audi dealer. they charged her £900 for rear discs and pads. Inchcape they are bullied into overcharging.

Wow I knew main dealers rip people off and commit fraud every day. For example quoted £1500 for pads and disks on a golf R. I worked out they were charging me £1,200 for an hours labour and that the youth trainee normally does them who earns less than minimum wage. Normally a dealership throws parts at faults. I had an extended manufactures warranty and they even ripped VW finance warranty off. I had a faulty resistor pack and they charged £100 to diagnose, £86 for the part and £150 to fit plus VAT. All for a job I had already diagnosed and could have fitted in 10mins. Also if a dealership doesn’t want to deal with a car/customer they normally quote crazy prices. You would think garages would have show time worked by proof. Most garages commit fraud but they always get away with it so why not keep rinsing it.

You may have misread the main dealer invoice and the quoted price was for a replacement Suzuki car 😂

I never use dealerships. Years ago at the land-rover garage. The labour charge was at that time £60 per hour. I decided to watch the mechanic through the courtesy window. At £1.00 a minute. If he decided to go to the toilet, chat to his mate, and go for a spanner. Cost me about £5 quid. Oh, and the parts were extortionate!! Thank god for independent garages and mechanics.

Used a main dealer for servicing my current car when there was value in a full dealer service history from the supplier.
Trigger for doing things myself finding they'd damaged the undertray during an oil change by bending it down instead of dealing with the broken clipnut that was covered by TSB saying change it for a revised design. Also found two bolts were missing which they had the nerve to charge me for then put one in missing the clipnut.
Later found the cabin filter had a batch date that showed they'd not changed it twice despite charging me £50 each time.

Anyone who resorts to using a main dealer deserves what they get. This rip off has existed for decades. It’s hard to understand how they continue to get away with it. Same problem applies to Peugeot fold down screens. The problem is usually the cable but main dealers don’t service the cable. £100 on eBay for refurbished cable.

I sold my car back in June. I will never buy another car that has to be plugged into a computer to diagnose faults. My Mondeo was a diesel, and it was a 2011 model, but every little job cost a small fortune. I am looking for a 20 year old plus, motorbike, that my Dad can service.

Main dealers have been ripping off customers off for years. I used to have an E30 BMW back in the day and remember BMW charging £45 per hour under their 4-year plus program. That all changed after a short while, and they raised this to £110 per hour. That was enough to price me out and look for a cheaper garage. I dread to think what BMW are charging now.

    Mainstealers , young lady bought a 2012 fiat500 auto for £7000 in 2023 ..
Gearbox started playing up , mainstealers fitted a new ecu as they advised this was the problem !
The new ecu made no difference , and she had a nice bill of £3000 to pay !
