Warlord Games | Epic Battles Hail Caesar | More Sprues & Size Comparison

- Опубликовано: 18 май 2024
- Warlord Games very kindly sent me some more frames for the upcoming Epic Battles Hail Caesar Punic Wars. I wasn't able to cover these in the first video so I decided to record another short one, cover some size comparisons that people have asked for. Also watch to the end to find out to win a full Pike & Shotte set.

Its a sure sign you're getting old when you get hyped for historicals, and im here for it.
Love it, I must have been born old, already had a Napoleonic army before I heard the word Warhammer.
agreed. but i just seem to enjoy it so much more...
Absolutely! I turned 30 and almost immediately got into WWII models in 1/72...
😂
That's a really nice ting to do giving away the set, well played Good Sir! And thanks for taking the time to do this video, have been considering trying to get a hold of some 15mm hoplites and sarissa armed pikemen, which would let the Hannibal box also cover all the wars on Sicily plus the Pyrrhic Wars, so it's great to know that they are sitting at around the 15mm range, thanks! . Please don't include me in the draw :) Cheers!
I’m hoping we will see some comparisons soon from people who have review sprues and other ranges.
Beautifully painted miniatures, especially the Pike and Schotte soldiers.
Thank you 🙂
I've wanted to get into full-scale Hail Caesar, especially focused on the medieval periods, but seeing this at Salute immediately had me more excited for this than for Age of Sigmar 4, which has been my main source of gaming anticipation this year. It's decades since I painted Epic stuff and the number of sprues is pretty daunting, so I'll undoubtedly keep an eye on this channel for painting tips!
These sets are certainly stunning, really tempting ways of getting into new historical periods. Very different style of gaming to AOS as well, so a perfect way of changing the pace once in a while.
@@MiniatureRealms Part of the appeal of Hail Caesar specifically to me is that as I've seen it described it's essentially Warmaster, a game I always liked but among very few GW games from that era I never bought into, and now at the originally intended scale (or close to it).
Genuinely cannot wait for Punic wars. I am looking forward to your painting vids for Punic wars as your Napoleonic ones were super helpful when I got Epic Waterloo.
Thanks mate 🙂
I think Hail Caeser is definitely one of the more visually impactful "Epic" scale games Warlord puts out. Love the mix of vibrant tones that contrast with the earthy metals
Yes absolutely, they’re going to look great on the table.
The Romans look fine and disciplined, but really impressed with the rag tag horde look they've managed to achieve with the Celts. The paint job to do them justice looks daunting though...
Yeah I’m hoping I can find a method that does them justice, but also isn’t too taxing.
Wonderful video - thanks! I'm a big fan of the Epic size . . . I wrote Warlord a few weeks ago that I felt they should print the sprues with 30mm widths so that the miniatures could be based on 30mm bases and be used with tonnes of additional rulesets. The 60mm widths of the castings make them only useful for a limited range of rules. I feel they would sell more of the sets if the sprues were cast for 30mm widths - they don't even need to include other bases, as fans could buy those. I understand that they would have to recast so many of their products that it is probably not worth the expense at this point.
Now come on for Epic Medieval!
Thanks for the give away, too. Very cool.
Thank you. Epic Medieval (of some flavour) would be excellent.
agreed
At the risk of enlarging my backlog i cant say no to more miniatures! Especially from such a great period. That being said, I've also ordered the Hail Caesar boxset so I'm really glad you'll be continuing to cover it.
Best of luck doing the draw by hand!!
😅 Yeah there might be a lot of names on it 😆
Cheers! And subbed to the patreon - I couldn't have painted my confederates or pike and shotte without you.
Thank you so much, that’s very kind to say and thank you for the support.
Great covergae of the Warlord Range and very excited about the Hannibal starter, it'll be my first Ancients armies.
For me as well
I have no idea about ancients so getting the new epic sets seams like a good jumping in point. Seeing I followed your painting guides to paint my epic napoleonic, I’ll definitely be following your journey through the Punic wars.
I’ll very much be learning about the Punic Wars myself, and first painting video is out tomorrow 🙂
I can't wait to see your twist on painting the Celitiberian Warriors. Thank you for this opportunity to receive the amazing Pike and Shott box set.
Hopefully I can paint them better than I can pronounce them 😅
My first historical miniature wargames was Koenig Krieg with flat lead minis in the 1980's. My mini game buddies are super excited to get this range from Warlord.
Looks like a great release
Warlord Games seem to be doing no wrong right now, and long may that last. This has really got me interested in the Punic Wars era. Brilliant stuff.
It’s a really great looking release.
warlord games have really been hitting it out of the park with their epic range, low barrier of entry compared to how expensive the hobby can get in other games and not to mention the awesome sculpts theyve done.
I completely agree, a great way to get into a new period or even start historical wargaming
Have to admit you get a lot of bang for your wargaming pound out of Warlord Games Epic scale, they drew me back into the hobby with their ACW set.
And honestly you can't even buy as many 6mm figures for the price😮
I’ve just started getting into the Pike and Shotte period and I think this is a great scale to do it in. Very generous of you to do this giveaway!
It’s a really good scale for this period
Thanks for the great video, I really liked the size comparison. Cheers from Reno, Nevada!
Thank you 🙂
Good to see the size comparison. Looking forward to seeing the new Epic figures painted up!
Thank you
Thank you for this review. Saw a Salute preview and was unsure about the bespoke size, but now I'm committed!
Thank you for watching 🙂
Your painting videos are truly inspiring, and it has motivated me to start painting my own figures, cant wait for the punic and roman ones
Thank you 😊
The cavalry looks nice and I always like how the Epic Battles have the figures in strips.
Yes all the fun of 6mm strips but the detail of 15mm.
I love the Waterloo stuff, so Pike & Shotte is right up my alley. The best part is it's all Epic scale! (I bought myself the Bonaparte's army set for my 50th birthday as a miniatures wargaming milestone 😛 ). You do great videos!
Thank you 😊
Fantastic paint jobs and a very nice give-away. I'm watching all the videos to try to decide between Push of Pike and Punic Wars. Or maybe just to decide which to do first.
Well if you win the set that might help the decision 🙂
The size comparison stuff was very interesting. Love the painting tutorials.
Thank you 🙂
Cant refuse the chance to start a new era free. Keep the videos going. And those not a patron if you can become one. As cheap as a pot of paint so well worth it
Thanks Andy 😊
I am waiting for your tutorials as they made me paint sizable Union army, and now I am working on the Pike regiments. Keep up the good work man. These Carthaginians might my end of the year project.
Thank you 🙂
Nice one. Even seeing all those epics lined next to each other makes me want to delve into the scale regardless of period. Cheers for the great video!
Thank you. I think the overall visuals are definitely one of the big appeals of Epic.
I can't honestly say this period has ever had much interest to me, but the new sprues look incredibly interesting to try just from a point of 'newness'! I'm not sure if Warlord will be doing what they usually do with Epic releases and giving away a free frame with WI monthly issues, but that might be a fun way to follow along with your painting tutorial!
I’m very similar to use on this period, but the miniatures are lovely, it’s a fun way to dabble in a period. I’m not sure about WI, but my guess would be doing the same again.
You‘re my go-to channel for epic battles content 🙃
Thank you 😊
A very generous giveaway indeed.
Hopefully someone will really enjoy it 🙂
Really appreciate you showing the difference in sizes between the ranges. Also appreciate you doing the giveaway.
Thank you 😊
Been following you since the ACW stuff, glad to see how much bigger the channels got since then, loved all Ur epic scale content
Thank you 😊
@@MiniatureRealms no problem fantastic content
Woot, looking forward to a Roman Painting guide x and the possibility to win Pike & Shotte, amazing :)
Good luck Lewis 🙂
Thank you for adding back to the box after you took from it. I am excited to see how you end up painting the Gauls.
They’re one of the units that I’m most looking forward to.
Looking forward to more of your painting tutorials, find them really helpful.
Thank you 🙂
Thanks for the coverage of the hail Caesar release I seem to become a bigger and bigger fan of this scale. Also love the content for the Old world - brings back memories of early days of wargaming - looking forward to the dwarf release - keep up the good work 😀
Thank you very much 😊
Can’t wait for your painting guide video 👍
Thank you 🙂
I'm enjoying your epic content. Especially while painting tiny French men. Keep the videos coming.
Thank you 🙂
I found your channel through the Warhammer stuff but I’m really enjoying all the historical content. Will be fun to see the painting tutorials for the epic ancients.
Thank you
Think, that this Hannibal set could persuade me starting looking at Warlord Epic. Not really my scale but looks fantastic❤ Thank you for sharing this.
It definitely seems to be tempting quite a few people to try the scale.
Your pike and shot figs are so well done for such a small scale!
Thank you 😊
I think Hannibal is what is going to get me into Warlords Epic scale!
It’s a very tempting release
I've been really enjoying your content recently. A great mix of historical and fantasy. Keep up the excellent work 👍
Thank you Steve, it’s a difficult balance, and very likely many viewers that only watch one or the other, but I’m having lots of fun. 🙂
@@MiniatureRealmswell I for one - like you - exist in both worlds. I'm sure we are not alone
I can't wait to see your take on these! Oh, and have a wonderful holiday, Stu and Fam.
Thank you mate 🙂
These epic minis certainly look very cool. I think at this scale it would be perfect to run campaigns with them using one of the units as a stand-in for a playing token to move around a map. Almost like a physical representation of playing the total war computer game
Looking forward to seeing you paint up some of the Romans
Thanks mate 🙂
This looks pretty cool. Just started watching your vids because of the Legions Imperialis tutorials you did, so it's be pretty neat to see what those minis look like painted up
Thank you. 🙂
…and you’ve reminded me I need to do my next LI video soon
Lovely sculpts, great video, look forward to the painting tutorials
Thank you 🙂
Looking forward to the new Epic Punic Wars release, have enjoyed painting the Epic ACW miniatures and always liked that period.
Exciting times, the release looks like a good one.
Each release in epic moves further forward, impressed with how they have done the ranks this time, I’ll be eagerly awaiting the painting tutorials as always!
I’m really enjoying seeing how much they’re improved since the ACW release.
Love your videos on the epic ranges. The painting tutorials have been very helpful, so looking forward to that Roman tutorial.
Thank you 😊
I really like the look of the epic range and the Punic wars, but having already painted over 100 Gauls in 28mm this year and about to start on some Romans, I’m more excited for Pike and Shotte! Thank you for putting out some great content Stuart. I’ve really been enjoying the Old World stuff you’re doing, I’m currently working on some Dwarfs for Old World gaming.
I can completely understand why you wouldn’t want to paint the same armies again in 15mm 😅😆. Thank you for the kind words about the content, and good on you for the Dwarfs (sad they didn’t announce the pre-order today). Best of luck winning the P&S set 🙂
I'm really happy to see all the allies and Celts. Definitely looking at the possibility of creating whole armies.
That seems to be a very popular viewpoint, I think we may see quite a few themed armies.
This is something I'm excited about, just more to add to my stash, keep up the great work mate
Cheers mate 🙂
Thanks for comparing the different range sizes. I've been frustrated with the level of hostility towards the epic ranges from so many gamers. Personally i love the epic ranges and Warlord have developed a great way to bring anyone with a passing interest into historicals.
I agree, I think there a very positive thing. I don’t understand why gamers are negative about anything really, so much choice out there, I just ignore the stuff that doesn’t appeal to me.
@MiniatureRealms exactly! I've mentioned before, elsewhere, i'll be passing on this release, but should a 1066 version of epic appear, i'll be all in again, just like with ACW and ECW. Give me tiny vikings, normans and saxons!
@picton101 That would be amazing
Great competition very generous mate. Ordered the Hannibal box can't wait to paint them
Well you never know you might win a Pike & Shotte box as well now 🙂
Thanks for all your epic tutorials. They have inspired me to get all my metal 15mm painted now I know the contrast secret. I have just finished my pike and shotte box
That’s awesome, and thank you. 🙂
Stu, Thank you so much for all your tutorial vids. Looking forward to the Hail Ceasar tutorials!. However, you also mentioned that you were doing a Pike and Shot tutorial on the tartan as part of the Montrose's Scottish Royalist . I think that would also be very useful. Hopefully you can find the time to put that out as well. Your vids on the Waterloo starter sets is what first got me into this range and just kind of snowballed from there. Have a great time on your vacation.
Thank you 😊
…and that Scots tutorial is still on the schedule 🙂
I would love to participate in the draw for this wonderful gift; thank you very much.
Best of luck in the draw 🙂
Never even looked at these types of smaller scale minis or even historical stuff in general but these seem actually quite fun.
Definitely a fun way of getting into/trying out historical wargaming.
Just joined your discord! honestly you are doing great job! keep up the good work!
Thank you that’s very kind 🙂
I cannot wait for the punic wars! so good.
Looks to be a cracking release.
Hey, not sure if I was supposed to be able to access the video (you said in the video itself that it's supposed to go up on Sunday) but I love what you're doing here! I'm a massive Roman Republic-era fan (I'm studying Classics) and im actually working on a large essay about the period at the moment so to see this covered here is great!
I'll be honest, I'm only really commenting to get an entry because I recently started getting interested in Epic Historicals (I've been playing Epic Warhammer for a while now). Also, I live in South Africa so shipping would probably be an issue, but I may as well throw my hat in the ring😅.
Much appreciation, and looking forward to your continued coverage😁!
Yeah not sure why you’ve been able to see it, it’s unlisted, very odd. But consider yourself entered 🙂
Epic ancients is so exciting!
The epic scale chats are my favorite of your videos.
Thank you 😊
I am not going to lie, I haven't been watching as much due to the Warhammer, but I am always excited for middle earth and historical content.
That’s fair enough, I have a large subscriber base with very different focuses, I expect I have very different audiences for certain types. The Warhammer isn’t going away I’m afraid, but I can safely say the historical stuff isn’t either 🙂.
@@MiniatureRealms No worries! I don't necessarily follow channels because they produce content that I like, but more so because their heart and passion is in the game/content. So as long as you enjoy what you do I have zero issue with what you produce.
Pike and shot must be the only era I've never collected.
Well you may get lucky and win a new period 🙂
Thanks for showing the size comparison. I'm really tempted by Epic Hail ceaser 👍
It’s looking like a great release
I've almost finished two starter sets for the ACW and two of the combined Cavalry boxes for Epic ACW. Interesting to see how the scale has crept up. I have some metal ACW cavalry that I got second hand and was disappointed that they looked out of place. I intend to get a starter box for Hannibal and then decide whether to expand the Celts. Thank you.
It’s really interesting to see how much they learnt from the ACW release.
Looking forward to seeing the Punic Wars painting tutorial!
Thank you 🙂
Oh man, I can’t wait to paint some Punic Wars, but I would love to get into Pike & Shotte too eventually
Best of luck in the drawn then 🙂
Thanks for sharing the extra sprues, looking forward to seeing these in the plastic. I'd love to win the pike and shotte box.
Best of luck in the draw 🙂
Every epic release seems to improve on the previous one, really respect to WL Games for that. I'm so tempted both with Push of Pike and Hail Caesar...even though my pile is already ginormous.
They’ve been very good at learning from each release, they’re definitely improving each time.
Thanks for the comparison. I'm looking forward to seeing your painted units.
Thank you 🙂
Look forward to more content from you . Epic Battles is a good start to wargaming.
They’re such good ways of starting a period and/or historical wargaming in general.
Interesting stuff Stu. Got my hands on the epic Hail Ceasar frames yesterday.
Ah excellent, can’t wait to see what you do with them.
Put me in the hat! Also, thank you for all your historical content. Great stuff.
Thank you, and best of luck in the draw.
Nice video. Looking forward to seeing these miniatures painted.
Thank you
Nice one man. Always enjoy your tutorials. Love those pike and shotte sprues!!
Thank you .
Very generous give away indeed all power to you for it. I like Epic scale but omg can it drag you out to keep painting at them. I bought the ACW starter set and painted all of the figures and then - then I run out of steam basing them all up!!! No doubt I will come back to it at some point.
Do you dabble in 3d printing of figures at all. Its a whole new frontier for figures. Some amazing stuff out there with figures to print and new paints to die for. Its a real golden age of gaming.
Epic stuff is certainly a big challenge to get through, they’re such large projects.
I do 3d print, it’s a super handy tool for wargamers.
Very much looking forward to your next videos as a long time Punic Wars fan!
Thank you 🙂
Warlord Games have done it again as I will definitely be buying into Epic Hail Caesar, I've already got the ACW and Waterloo sets but never picked up the ECW set. Really interested in the Gauls from this range.. Keep up the great videos.. 👍
Thank you 🙂
Thanks for the video. Really looking forward to this release - my favourite period and theatre by far. Scale/size comparison was really useful too. Cheers, Steve😁
Thank you for watching 🙂
👀👀that's a nice looking pike and shotte box you got there
🙂 Best of luck in the draw
Have come across your channel while looking to get into P&S Epic, so feels like fate!
🙂 Best of luck in the draw
Great video Stu. Can’t wait for this to be released and my orders in. Glad the figures are scaling up nearer to the 15mm height as easier to mix in with some other 15mm romans I already have. Can’t wait to see ur painting tutorials on these as always masterly. Cheers Stevie 👍
Cheers Stevie 🙂
I also have the impression in the epic range the ACW "feels" smaller due to the basic uniforming of the armies. They don't have shako's (for height) compared to Napoleonics, or bulkier / floppier uniforms like the ECW. This in some way also makes them look way smaller then their counterparts in a way.
Yes absolutely. While they’re slightly smaller when measured to the eye, the smaller head wear definitely accentuates it for sure.
im really looking forward to the the punic wars release and especially the possibility of a Celtic force, cant wait for your tutorials, your epic Napoleonic tutorials were what got me started on epic!
Thank you, I’m looking forward to getting the first tutorial out soon.
Thank you for doing there size comparison - looking forward to the painting tutorial.
Thank you 🙂
Keep looking at warlords epic stuff, this set is giving me BIG rome total war flashbacks!
Oh yes absolutely!
I am so incredibly excited for this game, the last epic battles almost got me but this one definitely will.
It’s a great looking release, I think it’s having the same effect on many people.
Love to see more videos with epic scale miniatures. Love it
Thank you 🙂
I followed your tutorials for painting the Epic Waterloo British and even though I consider myself mediocre in painting skills they still look pretty good!
By the way, I couldn't see any mention on your archive videos, but have you considered doing one around the Warlord Games factory tour? I joined one a couple of months back and it was very interesting, plus we were given a bunch of goodies that more than covered the ticket cost.
I’ve done a couple of tours now when Warlord have kindly invited me, the last one was at last years open day. I filed the odd section and inserted it into a video on our the day, but haven’t filmed the whole thing.
The ancients stuff looks so great, but I already have Byzantines and Sassanians in 15mm aargh! So yep, I could fancy some Pike and Shotte…great video as always.
Thank you 🙂
Sorry for the multiple posts, just RUclips playing up, not me trying to get multiple entries…honest
@RichardGoyder-xu3pl 😂 Don’t worry at all, I guessed it was something like that.
Looking forward to the EHC painting videos. The minis look awesome at that scale.
I’m really excited about doing all the painting 🙂
Thanks for the video. Enjoying your channel and looking forward to the painting tutorial.
Thanks you 🙂
Normally I am following your warhammer the Old World videos, I'm a big fan of those. But now I'm tempted to get a closer look at the Warlord Games Epic Battles.
They’re great games, and all use rule sets written by Rick Priestly, so have an element of old Warhammer in them to a certain extent.
Super helpful video!
I didn't know, that the ranges got bigger in scale and am pretty sure that it will be easier for me now, to convince new players.
Thank you!
It’s only a slight increase in size, they’re still only about 14/24.5mm from foot to eye, so a ‘small 15’, but it’s a good increase.
Thanks for the review looking forward to doing Punic Wars. Hope they add some more troop types to expand options
I’m sure there will be be more, there’s usually a second and third wave of releases.
punic wars looks great! looking forward to seeing the painting guides.
Thank you 🙂
