Hi, so if we are not adding pockets but following this tutorial - what do we do for measurements?

You don’t need to change anything as far as measurements are concerned, just make continuous side seams if you are not adding pockets.

Why divide the waste by 2 instead of using the normal waist and divide by 2 pi

You need to account for enough allowance to insert side pockets. If you are having just one seam then divide the waist by pi and add sewing allowance
