You're a great hurdy-gurdy player..also a great teacher.. you make it look so easy that makes me wanna have my own hurdy-gurdy. But then I remember how much I suck at music and simply enjoy listening to you playing. Thanks Patty for being as you are and share yourself with us. A squeezing (but respectful) hug and wish you end soon your album.
Finished my nerdy gurdy today and learned this piece as my first one, it's a great one for beginners, as you learn an important scale and the climbing movements in one piece (but took me 2 hours for an 18-second piece, though 😅)
I really love everything about the gurdy and the longing tipped me over the edge. I am gonna get my own gurdy! This is gonna be the first song I learn and I'm super stoked! Thank you for providing the incredible tutorial!
Thank you so much for making the Hurdy-Gurdy seem so approachable! Thanks to your encouragement in some previous videos I actually found where in the Netherlands I can learn how to play this fantastic instrument (they even rent them there if you take lessons, so you won't have to buy one immediately!) Now, all I have to do is find a job and then I can start practising and hopefully play your songs one day as well. You rock Patty. Loving everything you post here on youtube. Will buy your album (and those from Stormseeker) when I've got the money (being a student and all ^-^')
first time i see this historical instrument on a middelage market it was like hey why i have play drums for 12 years a nother 8 with e bass. this is your instrument. great vid from ya keep on please ;)
Hello, I just received my Barokk hurdy gurdy made by Mihaly Vrabel in Hungary, Did you ever made a tutorial about playing Leaves and Lemon, my 7 y old daughter likes it very much, and it is joyful in melody and scenery . Thank you very much for all your nice videos you are making. Have a nice day
It's interesting watching your fingers as you show the technique of moving up and down the "keyboard". I was trained in piano and it is quite different. (And it has to be because of the different hand placement vs the motion of the keys.) Playing the keys on the Hurdy Gurdy appears to be similar to lying beneath a piano.
Practice makes perfect. Don't forget she's been playing music ever since she was four years old. Just get yourself an instrument you like, a teacher, and some regular practice and then talent is not needed anymore!
Bellaen I have no time or money for an instrument or a teacher... but I have been teaching myself the piano. Hopefully that’ll give me a head start when I can actually afford a hurdy gurdy!
You look very lovely Patty and your music is grand. It's odd we don't see the Hurdy Gurdy hear in the states since there are a lot of Irish descendants especially my state including me.You see fiddles mandolins etc but no Hurdy Gurdy in Irish folk festivals.Someone should change that.
Is there a specific chord progression to this (like if I wanted to play it on guitar) I am fairly new to playing music but absolutely love your music :)
What is the song at the beginning and at the end? Is it any song at all or will it be a part of any song in the future? Can you write a full song with this?
You can try googling the words vielle a roue (that's what it's called in French right?) together with the french words for 'lesson' 'learning' or other things like that. That's how I found out where I could learn it in the Netherlands! Just be prepared for it to be a not so short distance from home... Mine is at a two-hour travel at least :')
Bellaen i searched for "vielle à roue" on the web but we can only buy one at an instrument maker. Thanks for the advice. But i found something interesting on Amazon. It's a diy hurdy gurdy, It's like a puzzle. It doesn't sound very well, but it could be interesting to learn this instrument. You can hear what it sounds like here: m.ruclips.net/video/bM-9aseXgvg/видео.html
Seriously? France is the country with the liveliest hurdy gurdy culture, there is no other place where it is easier to get an instrument and learn to play. They are made by luthiers, there is no other way to get a decent instrument (exept second hand).
Gonna need a over the hills lesson. I play guitar so if it's possible to get a tab for guitar of it as well that would be cool. Your music isn't easy to find online in tab form.
It's simple enough that tab should be considered optional. Just start on C on the D string (index finger on fret 10) and use minor scale fingering. Works quite well if you skip the [unwritten] grace notes. Anyway, quick and dirty (each line is a bar, letters are string name (standard EADGBE tuning)): D:10 10 12 13 10 A:13 D:12 10 12 D:10 A:10 D:10 12 13 10 D:12 G:10 12 G:13 B:11 G:13 12 D:13 G:13 B:11 G:13 12 D:13 G:10 D:13 12 13 D10
The most interesting part of this is something you didn't even mention while you were doing it. TIL you can do vibrato on a gurdy by jiggling the key a bit.
Hey Patty, I got a challenge for you 😊. Have you heard of the song "Pure Morning" by Placebo? I fingered that it would be a great song for you to do a little gurdy challenge on.
you said Trumpet .. LOL .. i was 1st string in HS ... then braces .... not my choice .. i so miss playing now .. for real i used to practice on the toilet too .
YES YES YES!! I am new to the Hurdy Gurdy and I'd love to play more of this tune!!!! You and your band are AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clicked on this because I was super curious what a Hurdy Gurdy was/worked. Did not disappoint.
You're a great hurdy-gurdy player..also a great teacher.. you make it look so easy that makes me wanna have my own hurdy-gurdy. But then I remember how much I suck at music and simply enjoy listening to you playing. Thanks Patty for being as you are and share yourself with us. I'm in love with your fashion style

Finished my nerdy gurdy today and learned this piece as my first one, it's a great one for beginners, as you learn an important scale and the climbing movements in one piece (but took me 2 hours for an 18-second piece, though 😅)
I couldn't find any music sheet, tutorial nor tab for this song, until now; this is very helpful even if I don't own a hurdy gurdy
Thank you so much!
I really love everything about the gurdy and the longing tipped me over the edge. I am gonna get my own gurdy! This is gonna be the first song I learn and I'm super stoked! Thank you for providing the incredible tutorial!
Love it! Love the song! Thank you for posting the video!

Я бы никогда не пропускал уроки у такой учительницы. :)
What an amazing astonishing instrument, love the sound of it
very fun watching you explain this id love to see more patty
You, Ms. Gurdy, are beautiful. I listen and learn, but I'm transfixed by your eyes and expressions.
I learned it by ear some weeks ago and I worked very well, thanks for the tuto !
Thank you. Very GOOD. Keep them coming.
Ever considered playing The Sound of Silence?
Ogod yes! That would be totally awesome! Signal boost the heck out of this so she notices it!
indeed would love there that also
i don't wanna sound like a arse but I don't think she has the vocal range for it but would love to be proven wrong.
Thank you so much. And I am looking forward to the other versions. Have a blessed day *HUGS*.
The new melody of my life... always Red & Green.
I'd love to hear you cover "Herr Mannilig"! It would be a tune of epic proportions!
Thank you so much for making the Hurdy-Gurdy seem so approachable! JustMike Ent www.draailier-doedelzak.nl There ya go! They organise workshops as well as lessons, once a month on a saturday afternoon.
I could watch you all day long and never need to learn anything. :D
This is excellent, thank you
Klasse wie immer. Echt gut gemacht
I love your videos so much. I can’t wait to get my own gurdy hurdy and play like you 😊😊😊
Enjoyed your tutorial!!
first time i see this historical instrument on a middelage market it was like hey why i have play drums for 12 years a nother 8 with e bass. this is your instrument. great vid from ya keep on please ;)
More musicians should make videos like this. Seriously!
I would like to learn the other parts
Awesome as always!
ich liebe deine Music … hoffe es kommen noch sehr viel davon .....lg
Your music is so beautiful.
I'd love to see the sheet music for the whole song. I can't promise perfection, but I love playing melody lines on my bass.
I have been waiting to see you play full songs on the new gurdy. Soon I hope
I want to hear the longing at concert in America
Love the new gurdy!
So beautiful
Never even seen a hurry gurdy irl, but I'm really interested in this. Great work, Patty!
I love you patty !
Very nice, way over my head but its still nice. Your hand looks a little like a pale spider gracefully dancing about the keys, its mesmerizing.
Please do more music vids and or covers. So far it has been amazing
Oh yes make more videos about this, or whatever you like. The voice, the eyes, the Gurdy, a three in one delight..
wow.. you're so talented Mary Jane.. 👍👍
Wow a beautiful redhead playing a wheel fiddle? I'm in love 💘 subbed
Off to transpose this to my ukulele. Gonna have to go with the low G uke for this one. Patty rules!
ivan terrible, great idea. I'm tempted to transpose it into bass clef, for my mango monster.
J3tzt bassman already did it for Gurdys Green. Don't Tell Patty, bit that song kicks ass on ukulele.
ivan terrible , I'm glad I didn't take notes on the trim work. This is tricky to pull off on a bass. Not impossible, but tricky.
J3tzt bassman Have fun with it dude. I miss my jazz precision. Nerve damage, had to drop to a smaller scale. Uke and mandolin.
I'm curious what Gurdys Green sounds on a ukulele.

WOW, at first I was like what is that but I think the hurdy gurdy is something that just grows on you.
You're so amazing!
Thanks!!! Could you make the second part?? I want to know all the song
Dang Patty....I think I’m in love with you! And the Gurddy 🤓🤓
В этом видео, великолепно все! Amazing!
most interesting and useful
Don’t know how you did it but you got me saving for one now
Le daria like a todos los videos hasta por la intro, mola mucho
They say redheads don't have souls but this girl sure has much more soul than I've!
yes guru..
That was awesome
Can you please do a tutorial like this for luring it’s my favorite song by you 😁
How come when you play your gurdy you don’t hear the button being pressed compared to others?
good!
Would you be able to provide the sheet music for the cello part of The Longing?
I couldn't stop looking at these eyes.
AWESOME VIDEO!!! Hey are you right or left handed?
Wow its really amazing!! I've never knew this instrument before. Subscribe u~~
I already have everything thing I need! Except for a hurdy gurdy.... and a good voice... and talent... and everything else I need...
I’M GOOD TO GO!
Could you continue this tutorial with the rest of the song, please?
Nice to meet you .

Any where i can buy the full sheet music for this song??
fantastic ;-)
Hey Patty, just a request but could you cover Horse with No Name?
could you learn the Firefly theme tune for Gurdy?
Patty, will your album be out on vinyl ?
Pleeeeease make a tutorial of the bridge part (which you played at the end of the video where your old gurdy was made) :)))
So to play it on guitar I use the ones tuned a full step down? (Can do, have 3 in that tuning)
Would be awesome to hear a pure gurdy version of this song - no other instruments or lyrics :D
Rhys Blackett it really would!
Rhys Blackett it exists! On amazon, iTunes, Spotify & co you can find the instrumental
Oh nice!
Is there a specific chord progression to this (like if I wanted to play it on guitar) I am fairly new to playing music but absolutely love your music :)
Muito bom, vendo assim parece fácil, mas imagino os anos de estudo em música, e mais alguns anos no Hurdy Gurdy.
can you play any of the Sea of Thieves hurdy gurdy songs?
What is the song at the beginning and at the end? Is it any song at all or will it be a part of any song in the future? Can you write a full song with this?
Te amo
You make it look so easy when I know it’s not 😆
Your video makes me want to buy a hurdy gurdy.
Now I need to find one in France😭😭😭😭
You can try googling the words vielle a roue (that's what it's called in French right?) together with the french words for 'lesson' 'learning' or other things like that. That's how I found out where I could learn it in the Netherlands! Just be prepared for it to be a not so short distance from home... Mine is at a two-hour travel at least :')
www.vrabelhurdygurdy.com
Bellaen i searched for "vielle à roue" on the web but we can only buy one at an instrument maker.
Thanks for the advice.
But i found something interesting on Amazon. It's a diy hurdy gurdy, It's like a puzzle.
It doesn't sound very well, but it could be interesting to learn this instrument.
You can hear what it sounds like here: m.ruclips.net/video/bM-9aseXgvg/видео.html
Giles Smedley hey thanks for the link. The prices are very interesting. 👍👍👍
Seriously? France is the country with the liveliest hurdy gurdy culture, there is no other place where it is easier to get an instrument and learn to play. They are made by luthiers, there is no other way to get a decent instrument (exept second hand).
what is the into song?
ah, yeah, I'll just keep listening I think!
bellissima melodia..gran bella ragazza e poi è cosi folk...xD la adoro

The most interesting part of this is something you didn't even mention while you were doing it. TIL you can do vibrato on a gurdy by jiggling the key a bit.
It's basically the same as how you're doing vibrato on an electric guitar. Your bending and un-bending the string :)
Hola saludos!!
Gefällt mir richtig gut :-), an einer Drehleier hätte ich auch meinen Spaß. Aber leider sind die verdammt teuer...
wee waaant moore!
nice
I'm Patty also but I play the cello.
Cant wait to buy a gurdy :")
sea of thieves need you
Hey Patty, I got a challenge for you 😊.
Hay Patty, I was wondering if I could publish a video of your intro, looped for 1 minute.
If that's ok with you.
She so pretty😍
I don't have a hurdy gurdy (yet). Any advice on practising in an environment where you can not make a whole lot of noise?
Pfaeff You mean where the noise doesnt impact others as much? The cellar.
My cellar isn't as comfy as my living room though ;-)
Pfaeff I see from your comment that you have a life.
;-)
I play electric guitar using headphones. I imagine there could be something like an electric gurdy that's very quiet.
