I just thought of this idea. Not sure if yours is the first. An electromagnetic crossbow should be possible too.

You have to stay within the magnetic field for it to work. Maybe 2 curved limbs, 1 rigid with magnets and the other flexible. The distance between the two limbs needs to stay very small, like less than an inch.
