  • Part of trying to be more self sufficient on the homestead is learning how to make our own bedding for the animals. With winter fast approaching we needed to get some straw stockpiled for the goats and Chickens. Watch how we bale our own straw without using any baling equipment.

    Awesome! I have to scythe my hay and straw and when looking at the instructions to make hay balers...well, a little too complicated and time consuming for me. Besides, these mini bales will be easier for me to manage on the days that I am on my own. Thank you so much!

    This is so Cool! I just had a thought, to help compact the hay more, occasionally during the process, put the empty bin on top of the bin you were filling, , and stand on it , or press down on it , to help mash the hay down further,, then add more hay & so on. Those plastic bins are so handy for so many things, & now they bail hay too!

      We will definitely try that idea next year. 👍 Thank you for following our homesteading journey.

    This is a great video, thank you for encouraging us to grow ans bale some of our own hay. What type of a mix did you use for seeding and what animals did you use it for? How much land was this from?

    How did you cut the grass before it dried?

    • @RunamuckFarms
      @RunamuckFarms  4 года назад +3

      We borrowed a scythe from a neighbour to cut it. We are thinking of buying our own this year.
