It’s great to finally get a couple of dry days to get some outside jobs done before the bad weather starts, as we missed a summer this year! I hope everyone has a great Sunday. Please, like, share and comment as it really helps the channel out 😉
I've been using mine the past few days and it is hot as hell. it takes 340 second to reach max temp apparently. also an important note, the reading of 530 degrees is taken from 0.4mm in front of the element.
Where did you get the battery from? DeWalts most recent 18v batteries have yellow tops. Noticed black ones popping up at Screwfix, Toolstation, etc... be interesting if the internals are different i.e. cheaper cells being used to keep cost down...
I got this in a kit from screwfix, as I bought a 18v dewalt sds drill a few months back. All my other batteries have the yellow top. I did wonder why they had the black top 🤔 Thanks for the comment 👍
@@ultimatehandyman Just spotted this explanation on screwfix website “I have spoken to DeWalt regarding the colour option of the battery and they have confirmed that they have updated the colouring of the casing. The item you have received is how the 4 ah batteries will appear going forward.”
Useful if you have to heat shrink stuff away from power, and you have the batteries. Really though it's asking a lot from batteries at present to supply a heating load I reckon.
Thanks for this. I was just about to purchase this heat gun and thought I would check before I do so. Think I'll give this useless waste of money a miss and buy a mains powered one. 👍
You look just like Dirty Harry in that photo. I do hope you are not thinking of moving to Hollywood. Sunday mornings would not be the same without your videos!
I started talking one of these on camping trips, to get the coal BBQ up to temperature much faster. Not any other use with the low performance through... For heat shrink sleeves I'm using a €16 heat gun from AliExpress. Cheap and effective. Or just a lighter...
Funny there's a lot of comments about how useless this new DeWalt cordless heat gun is. Yet, Milwaukee has one with less heat and all the milwaukee fans say it's a good heat gun. Very odd. Would it have made a difference if you used the batteries with the 21700 cell (new 6.0ah or flexvolt battery)? The corded version heat gun is still the better way to go. Thanks for the review
I've not been impressed with a couple of Milwaukee power tools, although the majority of them are fine. If I get a cordless drill, I expect it to do pretty much what a cored version can do (within reason), but this heat gun is not a patch on a corded version. Thanks for the comment ;-)
@@ultimatehandyman I guess you are right no patch for a corded version. Maybe some very small projects. Also maybe in winter when some locks or door locks freeze up, LOL... That might come in handy. Still would have like to see if there is any difference with the larger cell batteries. Thanks
The "hairdryer treatment". Cheaper option: forget to put the bins out, vacuum the lawn or forget to kick off your boots at the back door. (Lawn is astroturf btw) Point the heat source towards the material. Particularity useful if the "heat source" has been on the pink gin the night before.
It doesn't seem any worst than the other 18V heat guns. I'm guessing the acrylic being on that 1/4" steel plate had a negative effect on heating the plastic. Good review though.
Perfect for electricians because of the portability. I wonder what's the time until it reaches maximum temperature. Disappointed that it has only 2 settings. At least it it has a LED. I'm nto even a professional and I am using a Steinel HL 1920 E which definitely seems to be much more functional.
I've had one for a year now...good for heatshrink, and fairly useless for everything else. Except one other thing....I couldn't open the lock on my gates this morning because it was frozen solid....15 seconds work with the Dewalt and the wife was off to work!
Before watching I saw the title of this and the comments and thought maybee you were expecting too mutch and that it would be great for heatshrink alas i was disappointed. I use a gas soldering iron kit with a hot air tip for heatshrink and this is probably twice as fast as that the dewalt and £30 cheaper, plus with the blow torchhead you can heat screws and small bolts and do electrical soldering with a soldering tip mounted, my kit even has a hot knife that is useful for cutting poly rope.
I can't remember, sorry. I'll have a look at it the next time I'm in the garage to see if it has the make on it. I didn't have the chain tight BTW, it was just hanging over the pipe to hold it.
Just tested this for 1 hour and found out i have no use for it, i can live with my wagner paint remover, more powerful and can do long hours of heat gun work.. specially on vinyl car wraps..was just curious how long a 5amp XR last and how powerful it is.. im returning mine..this is one failed product and expensive.
I think my girlfriend has used mine more than me, I guess it's useful if you need to shrink some heat shrink sleeving, but not much use if you require more heat!
@@SuperWayneyb Yeah, it's that bad! Belated Merry Christmas (Sorry for the late reply, RUclips comments has been playing up AGAIN, So I have just seen this)
Just bought mine, I wish i had seen this review before hand. It is pretty much useless, 290 oC and 530 oC is wishful thinking i measured mine with a temp. sensor from 3 inches away and it struggled to reach 62 oC.
LOL.........I think that is the most useless tool that DeWalt have come up with.....I don't think they'll be selling many of them.......😀 Thanks for the review though.......👍

Be careful with that, thermal shock can cause windscreen's to shatter (this might not have enough heat output though)
