    This video series features the complete restoration of a 1972 CL350 Honda Scrambler motorcycle. The videos should help anyone whether working on a cafe racer build or a full-on original restoration. I'm definitely not an expert so please refer to your manuals for proper disassembly and assembly instructions. Please leave comments if you have any questions. I'll be happy to help answer questions if I can confidently provide solutions. Again, I'm not a professional. This is my 2nd Honda motorcycle restoration and I'm learning every single day. I'd love to hear your tips if you have better ways to do things. I hope you find the series useful and entertaining. I strive to show as much detail as possible so that the videos can be used as not only a how-to resource but also a reference for the placement and original set up of parts and systems.
    If you don't have one already please get a manual for your specific project. There are many available online for download for free. Common Motor Collective, from which I source many of my replacement parts, has a fantastic resource on their website: bit.ly/CBManuals You can also join groups on Facebook and get involved in the community.
    Keep on wrenching, Friends! b

    I believe the throttle cable is suppose to be routed above the mounting point.

      I’ve had it both ways and it didn’t really seem to matter. Above makes it a bit cleaner and tighter for sure. I think for snugness it’s currently above. Good catch.

    I think you have that rubber piece on the back of the tank, you put on backwards. The rubber pointed end is pointed at the tank and sit's on that area in the top part of the inset on the tank. I think you just turn it around

    Hey bud, on such a nice resto job spend the money and buy OEM fuel line and clips. They’re so much nicer looking than hardware store hose clamps and do the job just fine.

    • @KeepOnWrenching
      @KeepOnWrenching  4 года назад +2

      I’ll have to look into that. I grabbed this stuff from CMC. I do like that it’s clear so you can see the fuel. I don’t believe the OEM was clear. Easy swap to make in the future when I can get the parts. I’m to the point of working with what I’ve got for now. I definitely look into it. Thanks for the info! Much appreciated.

    • @preez77
      @preez77 4 года назад

      Brian Matson you got it! Bike looks really nice. OEM fuel line is black rubber and is about 2.50-3 per foot. Clips are $1.50 or so. Both pricey but it finishes the bike. I do like the idea of clear line to check the flow and if any gunk is present

    • @preez77
      @preez77 4 года назад

      Also, you can definitely fire it up without exhaust. It will be loud as hell and make weird “bloop” noises but it will run and won’t harm anything but your ears.

    • @KeepOnWrenching

      Totally normal…try remove it. Wire brush. Once to bare metal be sure to paint to prevent it coming back

  • @mrmwman1248
    @mrmwman1248 Год назад +1

    Dude, use the correct 5.5mm not 1/4 inch fuel line and spring for a couple bucks on the correct hose clips that you can use a needled nose with from both sides. The hose clamp looks cheap and shows on the tap side and you are making it harder than you have to to perform maint in the long run. All that work, pretty tank and you show it off with hose clamps.

    • @KeepOnWrenching
      @KeepOnWrenching  Год назад

      I’ve since then started using the clips. Had no issues with the hose size. Got it from CMC who are experts on these bikes. Couldn’t hurt tho! The clamps do cut into the hose so using a different option is definitely recommended. Thanks for the comment

  • @HepcatHarley
    @HepcatHarley 4 года назад +1

    I like to use fuel safe tygon hose over here, I guess your fuels are way different nowadays. Yeah gas it up man but to be honest the down pipes wouldn't take long to fit anyway and also check the oil circulation, isn't there a screw you can slacken off to check oil circulation?

    • @KeepOnWrenching
      @KeepOnWrenching  4 года назад +1

      I still need to clean the exhaust system. Got some rust to clean up. There is a bolt to check to make sure the top end is getting oil. I’ll feature that for sure. I kinda wanna see if it’ll go....decisions, decisions.

    Have you had an issue where fuel will come out of one line and not the other? I have a 71 CL 350 and noticed this. I’ve read that supposed to be like that but it doesn’t make any sense to me.
    I took the lines off of the carbs. Fuel will come out of one. I can pinch it then fuel will come out of the other one but not both at the same time. I thought it was the petcock so I took it off, cleaned it, felt confident and put it back on but nothing changed…

    • @KeepOnWrenching
      @KeepOnWrenching  3 года назад

      That was an issue in the carbs for me. Had to hit the passages with compressed air and reset the float needle seat and float height.

    Hi Brian, I have been wondering if running the fuel tank balance line over the frame toward the rear of the gas tank might work? Plus it sure would make removing the tank much easier. I saw someone do this on a RUclips video recently. Thanks Don Reed

    • @KeepOnWrenching
      @KeepOnWrenching  4 года назад +1

      That has been recommended. I actually have a couple things I wanna try in future vids.Definitely would make things easier.

    • @christianbergstedt1175
      @christianbergstedt1175 4 года назад +4

      Hi Brian and Don. I would not recommend that. If air gets trapped in the pipe when you fill up gas in your tank, it will not suck the gas to the other side when it gets low on one side..
      It could work 100% though if you make sure to start filling in gas in only one side of the tank first time you fill it up, so you flush out the air, and after that newer run it dry and makes sure no air gets in there.

    • @donreed1133
      @donreed1133 4 года назад +1

      @@christianbergstedt1175 Thanks for the info Christian. I always fill up the gas tank on the right side as the gas cap is actually on the upper right side of my gas tank. So if I understand correctly this should work? Thanks

    • @MrScratcher09
      @MrScratcher09 4 года назад +1

      To work properly, it has to go under the frame. It relies on gravity alone. Once gas level is down to the bottom, gas will not crawl upstream against gravity.

    Please add some masking tape on all painted surfaces especially the neck of the gas tank before installing and removing it. When your screwdriver slipped off the hose clamp I cringed because that’s an easy way to chip the paint as well.

      Someone may have removed and welded them shut. They are welded onto the tank and aren’t removable. It helps balance the gas out in the tank. If they gone someone cut them off.
