Not going to lie, when the music started playing I knew it was ending and I got sad. Took a journey with Magne in season one by coincidence. In the States, this show was just a random little show on Netflix. I discovered it myself when it came out and became very fond of it. It was a gem. I even shared with my sister. I enjoyed the ending. Whether it was real or in his head, he’s the hero of his story now. He stopped Ragnarok from happening and/or he awoke from him mental illness. This show will always be special to me ⚡️

I'm glad I'm not te only one and that there will be people who rebember this show fondly. It also has a place in my heart and I also shared it with my sister and I'm glad she likes it as well.
I know it's not the canon ending but my inicial head canon was that only Ragnarok happened in his head because he still felt like he had to carry on the fight to make justice for what happened to people like Isolde. But then Magne, realising it would only end in death and destruction of everyone he knew and loved, decided to prevent it and stop the Ragnarok cycle. When he hugs Signy it's him letting go of the past and the fight. When he decides to throw all of mythology things to the trash it's him getting rid of what was still binding him to the fight and the will he has to fight and when he looks back at Jutulheim and sees it differently it meant that he stpped vilifying the Jutuls because after all they agreed to respecting people, the world they live in and to colaborate for the good of everyone and not just themselves.
Even if this was only my head canon I really like it and even if the "it was all in his head" is not my favourite type of ending, there is something about the way they did it (the acting, the music, the way they filmed it, the awesome landscape, the scenes that proceded it like the one where Turid cries to her kids, etc) that made me like this type of ending in this particular situation and accept that sometimes, even if we love something very much and it's stil very hard and painfull to let go, we still have to go through it and sometimes leave it behind and that resonates with me.

I loved the ending but I interpreted it differently. I didn't feel like it was all in his head. I felt like they prevented Ragnarök peacefully but Magne still hadn't let go of it all. When he finally did, the Gods and Giants all became "dormant" and so he now believes it was all in his head.

    • @eldimuka9311
      @eldimuka9311 8 месяцев назад +11

I interpreted as he was only imagining the final battle that was what could have happened if they didn't agree to drop their arms for peace so Magne was imagining what could have happened if they didn't and when it was over it was him finally embracing the cycle of Ragnarok is over. It still made no sense that the house of Jutuls chnaged at the end though

      @luissimoes2645 4 месяца назад +3

Glad I'm not the only one who interpreted it that way. I know they probably didn't mean it like that but I think it was open ended enough for us to interpret it this way. I think the shift in the house meant we were seeing the house from his prespective where Magne stops vilifying the Jutuls because now they agreed to respect the mortal humans and the world they live in. Magne only imagined the battle to give himself closure to the fight he had been fighting for so long. He probably felt he hadn't avenged the other people the Jutuls wronged, like Isolde, and he felt like he still had to fight but now the Jutuls had agreed to be good so the way he dealt with it was the battle in his head.
Even acknowledging the "true" ending of the show where "it was all in his head", the show will always have a place in my heart and eventhought it's not my type of ending, I hope a few years from now people go back to rewatch it and judge it based on what it is and not based on what they expected it to be, because i'm sure everyone involved would have loved to do a great spectacle for the end of the world and the battle of all battles but in the end the storytelling was conditioned by budget and time.

Worst ending of ANY tv show. Not that I was expecting a big fight in the end, in fact them dropping weapons and just making peace was a really refreshing turn of events, I liked that.
Also, the overall idea of "it's all in his head" isn't necessarily bad per se.
What really doesn't make any sense it's the execution of that idea: are we going to pretend season 1 and 2 never existed, and were just a vivid dream?
That's the real issue here: it's not just him imagining things ON TOP of real events, those events just never took place. Like when two characters are talking to each other without Magne being there, that conversation happened only in Magne's head. So basically we don't know what happened in season 1 and 2 since NO SINGLE EVENT really took place.
That's some really lazy and trivial writing, aiming only at surprise the viewer (not for good), but not adding any value to the story. On the contrary, it completely ruined the past two season.

The last fight we saw was in his head, basically saying what would have happened if he choose war. Everything that happened before was real. The death of his best friend Isolde, his powers etc.
He got powers before Isolde died so her death couldn't have triggered that schizophrenia.

@@eurostar0711 You're right, it does fit in with what Magne was talking to Erik about how the modern definitions of good and evil don't really apply to the norse myths, and about how the gods and the giants would drink together one day, fight each other the next day, and then go back to drinking together.
Plus I guess that's also what's reflecting here - the old times of norse mythology, the violence was a part of life then, it was a necessary. But times have changed. And though many still feel it's the most effective way to go, war is not always the only option we have today.

If I have to add one negative it is in episode 5 of season 3 that Ragnarok doesn't actually take place and finally in episode 6 it does, however if it wasn't for that they might not have been able to show that all of this was in Magne's mind!

A student bursts in to your house holding a hammer and threatening to kill your family and they are just genuinely afraid of that kid who brutally murdered the family dog and throws a hammer five meters to the ground all the time. All while he is speaking gibberish, claiming that it’s Icelandic. And the Jutuls were just afraid of him getting near hammers. And then Fjor is getting his dinner for free and that Shizo kid is coming to the car with a fucking hammer in his bag, threatening to smack his head if he doesn’t pay for the food.
All while the daughter is just as crazy and is dating him while he has the hammer with him all the time and then the mom goes to a therapist because she is in fear for her life because that kid brings the fucking hammer to class now.

I saw some reviews regarding this show's final season and understand why people are disappointed. Final battle being worst-case scenario Magne imagined and he and his friends and enemies made peace with another. Implications of him having schizophrenia is likely but, how about such mental illness of his much complicated than what was shown and many of events that occured in the series being real all along? I mean, Magne's schizophrenia could be the consequence of memories and personality of his past self Thor clashed against his current self's own for dominance not unlike those who suffered bleeding effect in Assassin's Creed series. Comic books he immersed into (the same comic books he discarded in this video), Isolde's tragic death, and Jutuls' paranoia which started the conflict made it worse. His fellow reincarnated gods and even Laurits also had the same issue too albeit less severe to the point of easily overlooked.
If Jutuls are indeed Jötnar/giants, they are certainly lasts of their kind and had enough fighting. They thought Magne and co. would after them to finish what their previous incarnations started back during Ragnarök.
By making peace with each other and themselves, Magne's group and Jutuls finally attained what their predecessors and past incarnations failed to achieve: The end of the war between their kind without more bloodshed.
That's my interpretation. But yes, the series' narration, story, and lore should be made better and polished regardless whether it was just for 3 seasons. Maybe a reboot will improve what this one failed.

I have two explanations for this and I prefer the first:
    a) seasons 1 and 2 and 3 up to episode 5 definitely happened. Ragnarok plays out as expected in episode 6 except after Magne’s death, the world re begins a new in a slightly newer cycle. The comic books serve as a relic to the previous world, demonstrating what happened in the previous timeline. Ragnarok will occur again, but not with these characters who are now mortal.
    B) everything happened as seen up to and including the truce in 305. Magne’s visions in episode 6 are a demonstration of what would have happened had the truce not occured. Instead they broke the cycle of fate and begin anew

I loved this series. Hats off to the writers. I had sensed right from the first season that the theme of the relationship to reality was central. I can't help but draw a connection between the strange and whimsical series "Legion" (visually stunning) and "Ragnarok," since both heroes are schizophrenic. But Magne's schizophrenia is shown to the viewer in a more subtle way. It's evident from the very first episodes: Magne hardly ever smiles, has virtually no sense of humor, and takes things literally. The average viewer should be able to understand on their own that his schizophrenia, when diagnosed, is real.
    BUT...
Is the battle between Gods and Giants fictitious? Is it just in Magne's head? No. It's real too. It takes place on an ethereal plane. The ending is beautiful, as Magne's inner struggle against his own suffering frees him but also concludes this battle. His true power was to bring peace between the ethereal world and the physical world.

Im really confused by your take. You say you always knew Magne was insane, but at the same time he fought in the ethereal world? Are you referencing his own mind? In that case, he didnt bring peace to anything but his won head. And how would we as the viewers know he was imagining everything? If I was his doctor in season 1, and Someone came up to me saying they were the reincarnation of Thor, and the rich philantropist living in the town was eveil giants who wanted to destroy the world, I would of course not belive him. Several other characters have their own POV where they showcase their supernatrual powers, so I guess Magne imagiend all of that too. The twist made no sense and came out of nowhere

There is nothing subtle about the show, it never told or showed us that at all, at any point, until season 3.
Season 1 and 2 acted entirely as if it was all real, absolutely, definitely real, without a doubt. It's clear that them not being greenlit for anymore than a 3rd season, caused them to make changes to the ending they had originally planned.

Like is vidar dead or was he really there to begin with. I can see what they was trying to do here but it was horribly executed.

It was one of my favorite series, but its ending was disappointing. I don't think they had any intention of making such a finale in the beginning. But they didn't know what to do next and this decision was made hastily. I can't find any other explanation. Because I hate the scenario that everything is actually an event that the hero has imagined in his mind. I wish they had taken a different route. So many people disappointed that the gods and giants made peace or because it was all in his mind! Brothers, look at cartoons or Marvel movies if you want fighting, violence and sci-fi taken to the extreme. A superb series with an ending like Shutter Island. Unfortunately, those who say you've wasted your time, you're right, these kind of movies are too much for you, stick to Marvel and Disney...

This is disrespectful to the viewer. We spent so much time on a story that didn't exist. Likewise, the protagonist could wake up and say that it was a dream.
Even in the first year of scriptwriting, they are not allowed to do such endings.

For everyone saying I don’t get it , all of it was in his head but isolda death was real and it trigger him to have delusions of him his powers getting stronger and how he must avenge her but in reality it was his way of coping and trying to heal the trauma on what happen to his father , I think his delusions started when he went back to his hometown and progressed when his friend died and this ending indicated that he’s moving forward from all of it and that he’s accepting everything for how it is , plus remember that scene when “Odin” told him to dwell into his mind and find the source of his fear and trauma and the thing that scared him the most was isolda death which means her death triggered it and he was scared of moving on from it and accepting it

yeah but that means all was fricking pointless!? all the gods, giants and powers?? so basically that also means that first and the second season is literally POINTLESS?! which also means i just wasted my time! good thing is that i didn’t waited two years for third season bc i just started watching it like two weeks ago and i was sure that this was one of my fav netflix tv shows but i take back everything i said sadly… also one more thing! The producer rly said we will make fun of norse mythology and them being a literal Scandinavians IS CRAZY!

@@lonelyzxd5134 Because its a show about Norse mythology. A mythology about gods and giants… and technically every show is fiction.

To 98% of commenters out there, what did you expect? Another Marvel cheesy flick? Another CGI scene with 0 substance?
That was a great ending. Of course, the ending song was totally crap (Psycho Killer by Talking Heads would have done the job) but that's for another discussion.
